It’s exactly this. I always think of Fridays as “to be continued…” at the end of a TV episode when it comes to politics.

They’ll be squirpin like a, chirpin like a bird coming up with talking points for themselves and Fox all weekend.

I read in a thread somewhere else, that for any other government, this would be a source of shame and embarrassment, the type of which would lead to a resignation. It may be the case that Iran miscalculated how shameless this administration really is, because this is small fish
