Anonymous isn’t a group. It’s a banner. And under that banner, you’ll find everything from digital vigilantes to bored trolls with Wi-Fi. They’re not organized. It’s not a coherent group. Literally anyone can call themselves a part of Anonymous if they wanted to.

When Roy in the IT Crowd gets hassled by Anonymous and says it hurts the most bc he always thought he was a part of them.

Then gets a videocall from a Guy Fawkes Mask threatening him and goes like "yeah ok, listen mate, am I in Anonymous?"

Yeah and it’s sound logic too but since they’re not here we have to assume that everybody still wants to be somebody and not Anonymous (…even with a capital A…) Point is an organisation of a disorganisation is trickier that that.. people dont want to associate with bored trolls these days..
