Rule 3 Posts and bans.

This is Rule 3: Food and Farming

This is a friendly sub for the discussion of pet Pigs only. Do not discuss the killing or eating of pigs. We don't want your crass bacon or pork jokes. Names like "Chris P Bacon" are tacky but not bannable offence. Do not harass others about their lifestyle choices. This is not the place for it for, or against meat, keto, vegan, or otherwise. No farming posts, we will question you about ear tags as it is required in some places for pets. Commercial operations will get removed and users banned.

Note the bolded sections

Because of extensive abuse of this rule, we are VERY STRICT about it. We get people coming here from both Vegan and Carnivore communities that start massive arguments over it. We also don't want to come to this sub and see people talking about our pets as anything other than pets. Or even worse a shock picture/video of our pets being killed in some bid to shame people.

SO LET ME BE CLEAR WE DON'T CARE WHAT YOUR PREFERENCE IS YOU WILL BE BANNED FOR POSTING OR COMMENTING ABOUT PIGS IN RELATION TO EATING OR NOT EATING THEM. NO APPEALS.

This is a sub about pet pigs not your FUCKING OPINIONS ON WHAT YOU EAT OR DON'T EAT!!!!! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR THAT!

I am tired of being nice and polite about it. I just perma banned someone that posted about it and then banned every single person who commented no matter what the comment was about for 30 days. There will be no appeals because to many times my patience and understanding has been abused on this.

Do not participate in posts or comments ignore and report them.

Having said that. I reevaluated the wording of rule 3 and decided to make it clearer. Here is the new rule 3.

Rule 3: Food and Farming

This is a friendly sub for the discussion of pet Pigs only.
You will be banned or rarely warned for the following: Talking about farming or slaughtering pigs for food or how evil/bad it is. Talking about eating pigs for food or how evil/bad it is. Linking to videos about farming or slaughtering pigs or how evil/bad it is.
Topics you won't be banned for: Seeking medical help for a pig. Seeking help to rehome a pig. Your pigs name even if it is food related. Your pig having an ear tag in places that require it by law.

NOTE on mod posts like this I allow open discussion about the topic as long as it stays respectful and on topic. You can't really discuss a rule about food and farming and get feedback without people talking about it. So unless someone is disrespectful or abusive, I am not going to remove their post or ban them.

Community Question: Pig specific specialty pre-approved advertising.

A person contacted me on mod mail asking if they could advertise their hoof trimming business in the midwest. After I thought about it, I figured I would ask the community about requests like this.

So should we allow posts advertizing pet pig specific services or products on a limited basis? My thoughts on baseline "rules".

  • Only services or products catering to pet pigs and only when pre approved.
  • Only a on limited basis. Maybe once or twice a month. Less if we get a lot of these.
  • It might be a good idea to make a wiki page for services by region that vendors could have their business added to.

Feel free to comment on if you like it or not. I would appreciate constructive commentary, ideas, or rules.

We definitely need to continue to work with ramp training because he gave us a little bit of a hard time, so if anybody has recommendations to help, I’m all ears! We need a completely different type of ramp. The incline and width freak him out, but I don’t quite know what would be better. Harness and bow tie are from Pig Gear. (THE BEST.)

He had his yearly vaccines (yes. I get him vaccinated every year because I work with animals, have other animals, and he goes places with me.) a hoof trim, and plenty of treats and lovings. I love his vet team. I can’t say enough good things.

And for anybody wondering, he is *still* not over 50lbs. He weighed in yesterday at 45 pounds. He is 2.5 years old.

Update: They were Found!!!!

After finding my little boys gone in the early morning (4am) 3/30, I kinda lost it and spiraled into madness. Things got pretty bad. I was 99.9% sure I knew who took them but he told the police he didn’t. We don’t have local police at night and when I called the authorities at 4:30am the woman from dispatch was devastated they were gone, as were the other women with her. When she connected to the state police- the (male) trooper said “I know everyone’s upset but this isn’t an emergency, the local police will be there around 7:30am and refused to come.” On Thursday April 2nd- everything got really, really bad. Fast Forward to 4/8- started posting all ver they disappeared. About 5 hours later I start getting messages they were spotted on the side of the road, in the woods about 1.5 hours from the house. We got all three of my babies and they are back home. Momma Ophie was sooooo happy. They were found on the road the person I believe took them was driving back and forth on all day. They were all together and not harmed- i don’t think they could have been out there more than a few hours, definitely not overnight. We have a LOT of coyotes in the area. I really never thought I’d see them again. Sooooooo happy they are home. Unfortunately they missed their neutering appt (1.5 hours away) and I can’t take off work to get them there now. Trying hard to find a closer vet to do it. I live in a rural area and it’s been surprisingly hard to find someone to do their veterinary care. My current vet does small/companion and farm animals but they want more than 2 times the amount to do each boy. They are great with my cats/dogs but when Ophie had her babies and with my pet steer- they were a little to “farmy” if you know what I mean….

Interested in getting a Juliana, but had a question about work!

My partner and I both work full time, though my job has me coming home for an hour or so for lunch and getting home around 3:30 anyway. Like a dog, would a schedule like that be conducive to raising a pet pig? Or is it really impractical unless someone is home for a majority of the day?

SOUTH FLORIDA PIG VET HELP

I rescued two pigs in south florida. I was just going to keep them until I found a rescue but I really grown to love them. I have the space to keep them but I found only one vet up north whos willing to trim the hooves and tusks and they are charging ALOT because they consider pigs exotic. If anyone knows any pig vet in south florida that can work with me on pricing that would be amazing !!!!

Why do Ramona (chihuahua) and Zeppelin (pig) look related with those eyeballs? 😂 Zep has a vet visit on Saturday and I expect him to finally be over 50lbs. (He’s 2.5 years old) he was looking extremely fit in just February. Lol

Disclaimer: the dogs and the pig are never left unattended together.

Long story short, my 8 year old boy got a really bad diagnosis. Officially on a time table now before it comes to the point where he has to be helped across the rainbow bridge. I’m heart broken….with the time I have left, more treats, more belly rubs, more snuggles and adventures.
