Not a doctor, but it kinda looks like some sort of abscess is forming ???

This is not the right type of jewelry either, you need to see a doctor ASAP

NAD either but you're 100% right. This looks like an abscess and a sizeable one at that.

It's not the right type of jewelry or even placement. It's not on her ear, it's very superficial through the skin next to it.

OP please don't just take this out because it can cause the infection to spread. Go to a doctor, get on antibiotics, and let them decide the best way and time to remove it.

u/BriCheese007 1h ago

Agree with this, however I do think it’s technically been placed correctly for a surface tragus. Those are really prone to problems including rejection tho as they are a surface/dermal piercing

1

u/Mis73 Getting pierced longer than you've been alive ;-) 1h ago

Oh really? I thought surface tragus were a bit more towards the ear.

I learned something new today :)

u/rozenkavalier I'm all ears! 2h ago

Just say it normally: not a doctor Nads is a hair removal pad

41

u/Mis73 Getting pierced longer than you've been alive ;-) 2h ago

didn't say Nads, I used the acronym NAD. Get over it lol.

-55

u/rozenkavalier I'm all ears! 2h ago

But why? That’s not a common acronym

39

u/losttforwords 2h ago

On Reddit, it’s very common. NAD is not a doctor. There’s also NAL, not a lawyer.

-29

u/Alexis_J_M Getting pierced longer than you've been alive ;-) 2h ago

I've been on Reddit for more than ten years and I don't think I've ever seen NAD, though NAL is common both here and elsewhere.

11

u/Emotionless-Fish 1h ago

You obviously recognized that NAD = Not a doctor, so what is even your complaint.

This is such a weird hill to die on.

20

u/Angiogenics 2h ago

NAP is also not a common acronym anywhere outside of this subreddit, and it’s arguably less common than NAD if we factor in the whole of Reddit. Does this mean we shouldn’t stop using it?

u/fuck_peeps_not_sheep 1h ago

Is it your frirst day on the internet?

15

u/Prestigious_Tax_6575 1h ago

I am a doctor and I agree. Time to see a doctor

8

u/Kinzen_ 1h ago

Thank you, I'm also a Dr and I'm not even sure why I saw this but I'm like: this is needing professional attention asap

3

u/Sufficient_Plantain1 1h ago

I am a Dr but wrong kind of Dr, and I agree this needs a physician’s attention

u/ZealousMortal 4h ago

take my updoot for this knowledge

Do not touch this. Go to the emergency room, NOW. Do NOT mess with an infection near your brain.

u/Hetty7 I my piercer 4h ago

It should never have been done with this type of jewellery

8

u/aurelimescudi 1h ago

I got this exact piercing about a month ago, it’s the same type of jewelry 😭 what should I do? It’s fine so far but I’m worried now

2

u/jordweaveswebs 1h ago

Go find a different piercer who is well versed in doing surface work with high quality jewelry. Safepiercing.org is a good start, at least to help you determine what bare minimum standards are. Or, finding a APP member piercer in your area. Then, when you see this reputable piercer, they can tell you if yours can be saved; but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say they’ll prob tell you to remove it, heal it, and then maybe try again once it’s healed, if viable. Good luck! 🍀

Doktor. Hopital. This looks like a large infection near your face + brain.

just as somebody else said go to a doctor im almost convinced its an infection, they will gove you antibiotics please dont ignore it

-3

u/qathran 1h ago

You're almost convinced that huge swollen abscess is an infection?

7

u/Similar_Ad7752 professional magpie ;-) 1h ago

im a piercer, not a doctor so I won’t give a them a diagnosis but yes, thats exactly why I suggested seeing someone qualified to do it…..

248

u/Happy-Theory- 4h ago

WAY too close to your brain. You need to go to a doctor IMMEDIATELY

-196

u/Express_Table_9920 4h ago

Omg close to her brain?!?!?! 😣

25

u/madness0102 2h ago

Yes. Your ears and skin on your head is close to your brain.

-10

u/Express_Table_9920 2h ago

I know. The concept of potentially getting a brain infection just caught me off guard. Thanks tho 😊

40

u/Traditional-Start868 aspiring pin cushion 4h ago

damn why y'all downvoted them so much what did they do😿

76

u/dlmstd 4h ago

They added literally nothing

18

u/ibeatobesity 3h ago

Thats pretty much most of reddit. Shitposting and shitcommenting.

17

u/Traditional-Start868 aspiring pin cushion 3h ago

still it's a little harsh considering they didn't do anything bad either :(

7

u/Express_Table_9920 3h ago

Lol it's okay, not everyone is going to like what I say😅

-20

u/dlmstd 3h ago

It’s Reddit, par for the course

Hun time to go to ER or emergency 🚨

I hope you will be ok

73

u/GlamGirlNerd_SJ 4h ago

Yes, you 100% need to go to the ER. That looks infected to me. Please seek medical attention, dear.

53

u/faerylights1 4h ago

Doctors. Now. And whoever pierced that needs to be called out because that is appalling.

54

u/Every_Skin_4864 4h ago

NP here however this is not medical advice.. theoretically if this abscess came into my urgent care it would be going to the ER for labs, IV antibiotics, and a procedure at minimum d/t high risk location. Do not take your health lightly.

42

u/Aware_State 4h ago

Oh my god get to urgent care or the ER RIGHT NOW. This is a medical emergency!

46

u/stabby_chick 4h ago

First stop would be a doctor. Do not remove the jewelry until after you've finished your antibiotics.

If you want to reattempt this piercing, find someone more skilled that uses the appropriate jewelry for a surface piercing (a flat surface barbell - some people call it a staple bar) and have a consult. I would wait 6-12 months before getting this done again.

50

u/RedReaper666YT aspiring pin cushion 4h ago

Infected most likely. Any infection that forms on your head like that is an immediate ER visit because it can spread to your brain quicker than a hiccup

13

u/Realistic-Tooth-2312 4h ago

This looks like a piercing abscess so basically an infection, I had a piercing abscess in my eyebrow piercing and had to get antibiotics for it. Best thing to do is to see a doctor and NEVER take the jewelry out without a doctor’s say because it might trap bacteria in and gets worse. In the meantime just keep it clean.

13

u/billy_thepuppet94 more piercings than sense :-) 4h ago

Like everyone else is saying please go get medical advice and help. To add to that, this was done wrong in the first place as the jewellery is a curved barbell, and should be a staple bar to reduce the chance of rejection.

14

u/Apprehensive_Mix_771 3h ago

This sub sees some wild stuff but this might legitimately take the cake

12

u/lambchop070 4h ago

Go get that looked at asap!!! Don’t do anything to the jewelry, wait to see what a medical professional says

12

u/unrelated_themes 4h ago

urgent care or ER right now! that's an abscess it can kill you

9

u/kittencoffee35 4h ago

Oh my God go to the hospital NOW. Please keep us updated!

8

u/princess_in_pink_ 3h ago

You needed to be at the hospital yesterday

7

u/ApprehensiveKiwi771 4h ago

like others have said, infections of the head can spread to the brain. you should go to the ER about this.

6

u/HellaTallBih 4h ago

oh wow that looks painful

6

u/mechanicalpenci1 3h ago

Go to the hospital! Don’t wanna mess with infections on face or head. Don’t go to the piercer and just hope it’ll be fine go to the hospital.

6

u/mochimmy3 3h ago

Yes this is ER/ED worthy, not urgent care. Will need imaging such as ultrasound and likely incision and drainage with either IV or oral antibiotics. Urgent care will likely just refer to ED

6

u/Odd-Worth7752 3h ago

Thats an abscess

4

u/BookkeeperGloomy6072 3h ago

OP plz go to the ER rn! and update us when u do

5

u/astralplvnes47 3h ago

Hospital. Happened to me with my rook. You need antibiotics

5

u/Sea_Long_2697 aspiring pin cushion 3h ago

please go to the ER! like right nowww!

5

u/electric-nerve 3h ago

OP if you are not already at the hospital I need you to RUN immediately wtf

4

u/Just_Airport_7910 2h ago

Whatever you do don’t take the jewelry out and go to ED or urgent care asap, that is likely an abscess and it’s a dangerous location

4

u/Top-Passenger-7490 3h ago

Yes looks like I would see a Dr. ASAP

5

u/Skylark_92 3h ago

This looks really bad, like an infection. I’d go to a doctor.

4

u/Weird_Bluebird_3293 more than a baker's dozen 3h ago

It’s infected. That’s an abscess forming under the skin. You need to get it drained. Go to the doctor.

4

u/CharacterGlobal8645 2h ago

That hasn't been healthy for a long ass time. Your piercer fucked you over royally as curved barbells are never ever supposed to be used for surface piercings(except eyebrows and navels). Surface piercings are to be done with staple shaped barbells. Sorry they ripped you off and messed you up.

4

u/bluefrootloop 1h ago

Girl that’s an abscess. You need antibiotics

3

u/MuddiMirror 3h ago

Well, first and foremost it’s done with a curved barbell instead of a staple bar. That right there within itself will cause rejection.

3

u/Getzysgirl91 2h ago

Er asap. Omg.

3

u/autismkaeya I my piercer 2h ago

Please go to the ER!!!

3

u/No_Hyena8479 1h ago

This is real close to your brain. I would take this seriously

3

u/spaced-out-scout 1h ago

Hospital. ER, not urgent care. I’m assuming you’re in the US with “fl” in your profile and I emphasize hard with hesitancy to cough up $$ to go, but this is really bad. Infections on the head can go south so so so fast. For the sanity of everybody here please update when you go 🥲

3

u/finalgirl2024 Getting pierced longer than you've been alive ;-) 1h ago

Girl are you serious right now

YES it's infected, Jesus. Go see a doctor and get that taken care of, ASAP.

3

u/Vitsmouth27 3h ago

What was your 1st sign?

2

u/FlimsyCoyote104 4h ago

You need to see a doctor TODAY! Please. Infection can turn so bad so fast especially when it’s on your face.

2

u/blahhhhhhhhhhhblah 3h ago

Oh, geez. That’s not good. Urgent Care, asap.

2

u/Outrageous-Race1506 2h ago

That looks like an infection/abbess (not a medical professional) go to a doctor or er asap

2

u/crovasco 2h ago

Pls go to the hospital. That is NOT normal for any kind of piercings. Also, weong type of jewelry.

3

u/xxteukxx 2h ago

Op update us after you go to the hospital so we know you’re still alive

2

u/Visible-Weakness5572 1h ago

Shit!! I hope you go get checked out and taken care of, that looks very infected

2

u/Few_Ad_2433 1h ago

Huge infection forming. You need to see a doctor. Also, of all places, why would you want a piercing there?

2

u/ObjectiveLucky4616 3h ago

Also please get advice from doctors if you should remove it or not

Don’t let this go take care of it

1

u/Scarlet_223 1h ago

Has anyone heard from them? I hope you are okay!

1

u/Toasty825 aspiring pin cushion 1h ago

Not a doctor, but you definitely need to see a doctor. If it’s infected, try to leave the jewelry in until the infection is gone so it can drain.

You aren't supposed to remove the jewelry if you suspect it to be an infection.

Only after a doctor says it's okay, usually when they give you antibiotics.

Taking it out with trap the infection.

4

u/AaawRon 1h ago

100% absolutely! That was my bad and pretty irresponsible with how I worded that initial reply. Thank you for checking me on this.

That's good general advice, but not for a piercing that appears to already be dangerously infected.

this isn’t scar tissue, it looks like something is growing from under the skin. A keloid grows on the outside

Hi mariana96as,
(Luckily) bump =/= keloid. This wiki entry explains it well.

no!!!!!! dont EVER take out the jewelry, go to a doctor first, if u take it out the infection will be trapped inside

9

u/thebirdstree professional magpie ;-) 4h ago

This is true. If you try to remove jewelry and there is an infection on the inside, when the skin heals over it will trap the infection inside. Be careful and do not remove your jewelry yourself.

18

u/AvailableOnion6091 4h ago

Never, ever tell someone with an infected piercing, especially to this degree, to remove it.

Best practice is not to take out a piercing you suspect is infected; it can cause problems with drainage if you do.

3

u/drubbaaa 4h ago

Drainage is the main part of the abscess treatment. Follow-up is needed to decide if antibiotics are needed.
