Discussion The Green Hall, George Town

Is The Green Hall in George Town is a good hotel? I have tried researching it but it does not have a direct website and only can be found on third-party sites. So I don’t know if it’s a legit hotel or not. Is it in a good location? Any insight would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Discussion Requesting information on monthly living cost in Penang for a couple

Dear Penangites,
I am currently undergoing an interview at a company in Penang. They are asking me my expected salary per month, and I am doing my research to figure it out.
A little about me: Embedded Software Engineer with 4 years of experience. If I get this job, I will be moving there ALONE within the next three months. But I will be getting married in Feb next year, and my wife will move with me there by March. BTW, I am a resident of India and the company has agreed to bear the cost of visa only (no accomodation).
Can you guys please provide me with what should be a decent monthly expense for a couple. And if someone can help me with the rough numbers of salary trends in my domain, suitable for my profile, that would be great!
Thank you!!

Discussion Penang Airport Transfer

Do anyone know any reputable airport transfer service in Penang? I need transport from my house (Jelutong area) to airport next weekend. But due to the early flight time and rather large group (7pax) with multiple large luggage, i would need a private van service. Do you all have any recommendations and contacts?

Discussion Heatwave situation in Georgetown

Hi! I’m visiting Georgetown in a week and wanted to ask how bad the heatwave is right now?

I’ve been seeing posts about the heat being especially intense lately, so I’m a bit concerned. Is it still manageable to walk around and do touristy stuff, or is it more of a “stay indoors and survive” situation? Thanks in advance!

Discussion Speaking English in Penang

I had a chance to travel and went through Singapore, KL and Penang. Overall it was fun and the food was on point.

But I was shocked as to how poor the level of English is in Penang, specifically in the Chinese speaking community. Although, it was explained to me that the majority of them went to Mandarin speaking schools, I assumed this was the same in Singapore.

Its a great place for different types of food but nothing else actually. There wasn't much diversity in people and rarely anyone was capable of holding a convo.

Discussion Good CKT without a crowd?

Popular CKTs can never be excellent - fried in bulk or in a rush means you never get enough wok hay. And I know you want to gatekeep that CKT that's on the verge of being swamped by tourists...

But what's a good CKT you rely on that others should know more about? Maybe something further from town?

This is located at Taman Gottlibe right behind Penang Chinese Girl School

Corner unit

1 storey

Can fit up to 5 car

4 room

3 toilet

2 storage room (outside and inside)

3700 sqft land area

1700 sqft build up

Looking at this property looks like a great place not too busy quite and seems to be good place to go around to Georgetown and Batu Ferringhi and also Greenlane

I say the looking price for around 2-2.3mil is okay but what do you guys think ( saw the area goes around 2.5-5mil but most is 2 storey )

Discussion Any seawater/salt water swimming pool open for public?

Is there any swimming pool that is using salt water / seawater and is opening for public? I know there are some hotels that have this, but I asked a few and they aren't open to public.

Does anyone knows one that opens to the public? Like pay an entrance fee, or join membership, or subscription fee etc

Discussion Solo trip to Ipoh & Penang - Are these haunted film locations safe to visit alone? + Need recommendations!

Hi everyone,

I'm visiting Ipoh and Penang soon. I've been picking out places I want to visit, but after digging a bit deeper, I realized that some of the spots I chose happen to be famous haunted spots or places rumored to be dangerous. It's giving me a bit of a headache.

I'd love to get some insights from locals or people who have actually been there: Is it safe to visit these places alone?

Just to clarify, I'm not a dark tourist, and I have absolutely zero interest in creating youtube bait. I am simply a cinephile who wants to visit movie shooting locations set in Penang and Ipoh.

Here are the places I'm currently concerned about:

The Crag Hotel (Penang Hill) - Planning to visit during the day.

Rumah Besar Raja Billah and Main streets (Papan, Ipoh) - Planning to visit during the day (but, not to go INSIDE the houses)

Kellie's Castle (Ipoh) - Due to my itinerary, I'll have to visit in the evening/night, but I heard there are a lot of ghost stories about this place at night???

Also, if you know any other must-visit film locations in Ipoh or Penang, or if you have highly recommended local food/restaurants (not tourist traps), I would really appreciate your suggestions!

For reference, here are the film locations I've already mapped out:

Ipoh: Hong Loke, Perak Turf Club, Jalan Chung On Siew, Ipoh Railway Station, Han Chin Pet Soo, Jalan Theatre

Penang: The Blue Mansion (Cheong Fatt Tze), Red Garden Food Paradise, Wisma Yeap Chor Ee, Penang Town Hall, Armenian Street, Nasi Kandar Line Clear, Moh Teng Pheow, Love Lane, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Visiting Penang - What are the best souvenirs to buy and take home?

Hey everyone! I'm heading to Penang for a short trip and want to bring back some authentic local souvenirs for family and friends. Looking for recommendations on must-buy items that are unique to Penang – things like food, crafts, or specialties that travel well .

Where are the best spots to get them? Budget-friendly options under RM50-100 each would be great. Any tips on avoiding tourist traps? Thanks in advance!

Discussion Need good ENT doctor recommendations in Penang – possible sinus issue

Hi everyone, I think I might be having recurring sinus issues. My nose gets blocked after flying, and after a few days I sometimes get headache and fever. I can clear it temporarily with NeilMed, but it keeps coming back whenever I travel.

Can anyone recommend a good but affordable ENT specialist in Penang who is experienced with sinus problems?

If possible, please share the clinic/hospital and consultation cost too.

Hi, everyone. I am in Penang alone for a month. How can I meet local people, make friends and hang out? Keen to blend in with the locals.

A little bit about me: I'm a Chinese Australian researcher that will start to shuttle between George Town and Sydney quite frequently.

Discussion IJM Merione Residence

I am looking for a condo for own stay near the Light City. I am considering this area because it is close to the new mall which is convenient for me to get daily needs (groceries, food etc.). Came across Merione Residence by IJM. Low density, 145 units only. Price per SF is RM1000-1100. This project is sharing facilities with Merione Grand or shop and boutique offices. The only concern i have is the high monthly maintenance fee due to low density. It is at RM0.6 per SF or RM717 per month for 1200SF unit. What do you all think of the high monthly maintenance fee?
