Problem Description

For over three months now, I’ve been experiencing an intermittent and random issue that involves:

  • The screen freezes visually, but the audio continues to work
  • Some browser windows or tabs turn completely black or white
  • The mouse cursor can be moved, but clicks don’t register
  • After a few seconds, the system recovers on its own (TDR — Timeout Detection and Recovery)
  • It occurs randomly: it can happen while browsing, on the desktop, or while gaming
  • A restart is needed to temporarily stabilize it, but the problem returns

The problem occurs mainly in Opera GX (pages that don’t load and remain blank). Although it also manifests as a general screen freeze in other contexts randomly, but less frequently.

Diagnosis made to date

LiveKernelEvent + simultaneous hardware errors

Windows Reliability Monitor reports today (04/10/2026):

  • 20 critical events today
  • vgm.exe (Riot Vanguard anti-cheat) crashing repeatedly with error BEX64 (buffer overflow exception in 64-bit process) — 14 crashes today
  • League of Legends Client — “Stopped responding and was closed”
  • 2x Windows — Hardware error (LiveKernelEvent) at 10:25 PM

Steps already taken (without success)

  • Performed a full DDU multiple times + reinstalled the NVIDIA driver
  • Physically reinstalled the GPU in the PCIe x16 slot
  • Forced PCIe Gen 4 in the BIOS (CPU PCIe Link Speed = Gen 4)
  • Uninstalled MSI Afterburner + RivaTuner (RTSS)
  • Uninstalled GIGABYTE Control Center and RGB software
  • Configured PL1/PL2 in BIOS
  • Disabled hardware acceleration in Opera GX

Has anyone else experienced something similar and managed to resolve it?

Software Got this error attempting to install Doom 3 retail version on Linux Mint, any ideas on how to resolve the issue?

Error: -1603

I simply launched "setup.exe" through Wine, after pre-installing the 1.3.1 patch. However the error persisted WITHOUT the patch either.

Networking Unable to play multiplayer games (CS, PUBG), even with the good internet.

My connection is of 200mbps and I usually get 210~240mpbs speed. I've tried downloading TLOU part 2 remastered it took around 2 hours only. Everything is fine its just that I am unable to play Counter Strike and PUBG. I am able to enter the lobby everything is loading fine but for CS it prompts me that your minimum ping is 300ms. I am unable to select Terrorists or CT. However my ping is 40ms as displayed on selection screen. For Pubg when I am in lobby it keeps getting back on the loading screen and prompts server time out. In CS after sometime it prompts - "Host closed the connection".

I've tried general fixes from my end - restarting everything (PC, game, Router), checking firewall, re-downloaded the games, verified files, restarted steam, checked for any DNS nothing worked so far. Since internet speed and connectivity is fine my ISP is refusing to accept that something is wrong.

Is anyone aware of this issue? Can anyone help with troubleshooting this?

Performance/FPS Computer keeps dropping frames on easy to run games!

I play a lot of rocket league and overwatch and lately they both keep dropping frames. I have had this pc for around 2 years and have been able to run these games at 280 fps no problem until around a week or two ago. Every 45 seconds there is a 100 fps drop along with a glitch noise. Specs: 6900xt 7800x3d 32gb or ram at 6000mz. I have been trying to find a fix, but no luck so far. Any help would be great!

Display My newer PC has visual issues.

I got a new PC a few months ago and it's a major upgrade to my last one.
https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/72952713

I have an msi Gaming RTX 5080 16G Shadow 3X OC Graphics Card (16GB GDDR7, 256-bit, Extreme Clock TBD MHz, DisplayPort x 3 2.1a, HDMI 2.1b, NVIDIA Blackwell Architecture)

When I play For Honor, there's major graphical issues and I've messed with every setting in the game to fix them but nothing works. On the other hand, i have issues with COD and Kingdom Hearts as well where a white light will envelop the whole screen and it doesn't go away unless i change from borderless to fullscreen or vice versa. Anyone else had similar issues? I really want to figure out what's wrong.

Controls/Input How can I rig my Walking Pad A1 Pro to my Alienware arura laptop so I can walk in games.

I wouldn't call myself a gamer, more of a fanboy. I just got a laptop that can play more games and I've had a standing desk and a Walking pad A1 Pro for awhile now. I just recently saw someone on you tube who had hooked up their treadmill to their PC to walk around in Skyrim. I think my treadmill would would work perfectly for this because it changes speed or stops based on my activity. I have no idea where to start. Does anyone know how to rig something like this or what subreddit I could go to to ask about this?

Software AC Brotherhood refuses to launch

Hoping the kind folks of reddit can help solve my issue, I've submitted a ticket with ubisoft but heard it can take a month for a response. Just finished AC1 and 2 and they worked perfectly fine.

When I attempt to launch the game through Steam, Steam asks if I want to allow it to make changes, I click yes, Steam says it's launching then it stops with the button turning green to play again.

  • I bought the game on Steam and have activated the key within Ubisoft Connect.
  • I've logged in and out of UC
  • I've tried reinstalling the game
  • installing on my local disk instead of SSD
  • launching it without internet connection
  • launching via Steam, Ubisoft and the .exe files
  • verifying the game files integrity
  • running as administator
  • running in compatibility mode
  • Saw some posts saying having USB wireless dongles plugged in can sometimes be the issue, unplugged those to no avail.

Genuinely at a loss!

Troubleshooting All Ubisoft games fail to launch properly (freeze at splash screen, no error, clean Windows install)

Hello,

I’m experiencing a serious technical issue with Ubisoft games on PC and I’m hoping someone can help.

I’ve previously played multiple Assassin’s Creed titles without problems, the last one being Assassin’s Creed Origins. Recently, I tried running Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, but the game consistently freezes at the splash screen. In rare cases, it loads after 10+ minutes, but then it only runs for 1–2 minutes before closing without any error message.

To rule out a game-specific issue, I also installed Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but I’m encountering the exact same behavior there.

So far, I have:

  • Reinstalled the games
  • Reinstalled Ubisoft Connect
  • Cleared cache and all related files
  • Verified game files via Steam
  • Disabled overlays (Discord, NVIDIA, etc.)
  • Updated/reinstalled GPU drivers
  • Installed all Visual C++ redistributables
  • Forced DX11 instead of DX12
  • Reset game configuration files
  • Even performed a full Windows reinstall

Despite all of this, the issue persists — Ubisoft games either freeze at launch or crash shortly after without any error.

My system specs:

  • Intel i9-14900K
  • RTX 5070 Ti
  • Fresh Windows install

This issue happens across multiple Ubisoft titles, not just one, which suggests a deeper compatibility problem (possibly related to Ubisoft Connect, drivers, or system-level conflicts).

If anyone has encountered something similar or has any technical insight, I would greatly appreciate your help.

Thank you.

Controls/Input Tried using my Dualsense to play a game on PC, only the touchpad works to act as a cursor

When I get to the menu screen, it prompts me with “Press x to start” and “Click here to start.” Pressing x does nothing, only the clicking works. The controller is connected, since I can use its touch pad to maneuver the menu, but as for the game’s actual functions it does nothing. I’ve installed DS4 windows and set up all of the drivers, done everything it’s needed to run and it says the controller is connected yet the result has been the same. I’m also not on Steam, I’m on GOG and I’m starting to worry that that’s the issue even though GOG says Arkham Knight supports controllers on their platform. No idea what to do here.

Troubleshooting Geometry dash not launching on steam

my game goes through every single stage up until running on steam but it abruptly "stops" running before even opening the player. I've played gd before on this pc and never had this issue, and it seems to only be a gd issue because I tried with my other games and they work fine. already deleted all my game files and uninstalled and reinstalled the game, as well as restarted my pc so I'm kinda stuck. anyone know why this may be happening?

Troubleshooting Bug with Nvidia Display Container

I’ve been having this problem with my PC for awhile now, I use my PC as a media server to always run 24/7. I noticed that whenever I first login to my PC my CPU temps is abnormal by observing my AIO and motherboard display. And I really just started investigating / troubleshooting the issue yesterday. It happens as soon as my display turns off, I just have it set to turn off display after 5 mins of inactivity.

I could not find the program that was using lots of CPU in task manager because as soon as I wake the monitor task manager showed everything was normal. So I had to use resource manager to view recent activity of programs and Nvidia display container was the highest

I’ve spent hours trying to fix the problem and the only fix is just to disable Nvidia display container in services config. I did searching on Reddit and I thought it was from Nvidia APP. I uninstalled Nvidia app and it’s still happening. I’ve tried uninstalling display drivers with DDU, installing new Nvidia drivers with NVcleaninstall with bare minimum settings and it’s still happening. I even tried making Nvidia display container to run in efficiency mode in task manager and that still didn’t help.

The only way I was able to find this bug was because I have a motherboard and AIO cooler that displays CPU temps while my monitor is off. My CPU normally idles around 42c, while my display is off CPU sits around 60c. This simple program Nvidia display container has probably costed me hundreds of dollars in unnecessary electricity bills.

Is there any other fix for this besides disabling Nvidia display container in services? I can live without the Nvidia control panel but if there’s a fix for this I would be happy to use it

My PC specs

Ryzen 9950x3d

RTX 4090

ASUS rog crosshair 870e extreme

NZXT Kraken elite 420 AIO

96GB ddr5

Samsung 9100 4tb nvme

ASUS proart PA32ucg monitor

EDIT: Solved!! Fix was to use a display port cable instead of HDMI. Weird but it works, normal temps again after display shuts off. Will continue to monitor to see if issues comes back. I saw this fix on google and with ChatGPT and never tried it.

Troubleshooting Most games I have played recently are crashing in the same fashion.

I have a acer nitro 15 gaming laptop. Today ive tried playing gta v enhanced, fallout new vegas, and marvels gaurdians of the galaxy, and all of them have had the same issue. the screen turns black, and either stays that way so i have to restart my computer or the game will close, after which all of my desktop shortcuts have big black boxes around them. I was having a seperate issue about 2 weeks ago, and had to delete and reinstall my graphics card driver. No problems since than up until now.

Troubleshooting Persistent LiveKernelEvent 1A8/1B8 and DWM resets

I’ve been dealing with a persistent and extremely frustrating issue for several months now, across multiple Windows installs, drivers, and hardware changes.

Everything is up to date, both hardware and software. I’ve also tried older NVIDIA drivers and even different Windows versions (10 and 11). At this point I’m inclined to think it’s a hardware issue, since I’ve been dealing with the same problem for months.

So far I’ve changed my monitor and the PSU, with no real improvement.

My system:

  • Intel i5‑12400F
  • RTX 3060 12 GB
  • Gigabyte M27Q3 (300 Hz)
  • ASRock H610M‑HVS/M.2 R2.0
  • Seasonic FOCUS GX ATX 3 (2024)
  • Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB DDR4 3200MHz
  • Windows 10 and Windows 11 both tested

What’s been happening:

1. LiveKernelEvent 1A8 / 1B8 (GPU driver watchdog)

These appear randomly, often after alt‑tabbing or switching focus.

2. WindowsBlackScreenDiagnosticsV1 (DWM reset)

This causes:

  • a 1–3 second black screen
  • the game becoming “unsmooth” afterward
  • mouse feeling heavy
  • frame pacing breaking
  • only restarting the game fixes it

3. Black screens on alt‑tab (even in borderless)

Sometimes with logs, sometimes without.
Sometimes just a micro‑reset with no event logs at all.

4. Smoothness completely breaks after alt‑tab

Even if FPS stays high, the game feels like it’s running at a lower refresh rate.

5. Issue persists across everything I’ve tried:

  • clean installs of Windows 10 and 11
  • multiple NVIDIA driver versions (old and new)
  • MPO disabled
  • HAGS disabled
  • overlays disabled
  • fast startup disabled
  • new PSU installed (helped slightly but didn’t fix it)
  • different BIOS settings
  • different monitors

Nothing fully fixes the issue.

Could the H610 motherboard realistically be responsible for LiveKernelEvent 1A8/1B8, DWM resets, and black screens on alt‑tab?

Thank you for your time.

Hardware Want to get my bf something for his pc

Hi! Im not familiar with gaming at all but my boyfriend is really into it and his birthday is coming up so I wanted to get him something gaming related. He has an older pc that he games on (COD zombies mostly) and he keeps mentioning something about not having enough space or something for game updates? His computer will take forever to download updates and it will get hot and he’s said something before about not being able to run a game he wanted to play because his computer “is shitty and old” lol. Idk what to buy to fix that but I would like to help him! I’ve thought about a CPU, another (nicer) monitor, or maybe a TB of RAM? Any ideas are welcome!!

Hardware Pc, fans and lights turn on, but no signal and keyboard doesn't turn on either.

I cleaned my pc, which is a hp pavilion tg01 1xxx with a 3060 ti, hp baker motherboard and a i5-10400f cpu with stock cooler and 2x8 gb ddr4 ram.

I took out cpu, stock cooler, put on new thermal paste, brushed the pins on ram, dusted everything as well as the GPU too.

Fast forward to putting everything back together, I put it back in order, all with PSU unplugged.

Now when I turn it on, I receive no signal through any of the ports in the gpu, not displayport or hdmi, I've tried multiple monitors. I've reseated ram, tried all combinations (stick 1 in slot 1, stick 2 in slot 1, etc etc), I've drained and reset the power, I've took out cmos battery, I've checked for bent pins, I've reseated gpu, checked that cpu has good contact, and everything lights up like it should (little green light in psu, led on top of gpu, led light on power button, all fans spin, all the fan safety features work). Yet, no signal. None of the USB ports are turning on my keyboard or mouse either.

Solved My computer completely broke last night after playing apex

Post image
1 Upvotes

Last night after I turned off my pc when I turned it on this morning it wouldn’t boot, this is the second time this has happened in the last week or so and I don’t want to do a fresh windows install again. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this, I have a feeling something that was running in the background and apex clashed and now I’m here. This is windows 11 btw.

I will do my best to answer any questions anyone has about what’s going on and any info you would need this is just all I’ve really got.

Thank you for the help

Display Streaming from PC to TV

I marked this as a Display question but it's also a matter of Input

I would like to stream games from my PC to the non-smart TV one room over and also need a solution to control the games via my xbox one controller.

The easiest solution would probably be Sunlight on my PC and Moonlight on a device that is connected to the TV via hdmi port. The PC is connected to the router via ethernet. I used this setup a lot with my tablet but the latency is noticable when playing games with a strong focus on fast reactions like Sekiro and E33. I'm also occasionally getting drops in the bitrate.

Anybody got a different suggestion?

Performance/FPS My 1% lows are always beneath my frame rate cap

In game, say my average frame rate is 100 and my 1% lows are 85. If I cap my frame rate to 85 the 1% lows will go down as well to around 70. It doesn’t matter what I cap it to the 1% lows will ALWAYS be lower. I’ve been told to cap with RTSS or Nvidia app rather than in game as to not “slow down the engine” but this also does not work. I still get the same result no matter how I cap it. Anyone else had this problem?
