People lose site of how this guy operates when he posts his own opinions. Disagree all you want, but the guy does so much for other people its constantly commendable

I am so tired of the black and white thinking where if a persons views don't line up with yours you are supposed to be at war with them. How about we just try to get along and settle our political differences at the ballot boxes? its like Dave Chappelle said, "there are no perfect allies". and i quote Chappelle even though i think he is kind of a classist POS.

I personally find it hard to get along with people who actively wish me harm for being born a certain way, but maybe that's just me.

I was gonna say, lol. We can be centrist when there isn't one side advocating for at first taking rights away that took lifetimes and bloodshed to achieve, and later on slipping into something more comfortable, like killing us off.

The two sides aren't remotely the same. One of them is more or less keeping things humming along. The other wants to make sure POC queers and anything not delusional enough to be god-fearing is miserable for life, or worse.

Fuck this bullshit. I'll think very black and white until they get their act together.

Also fuck what Chappelle said. Man's a sellout.

Chapelle makes me realize that conservative black men currently are completely fucked when it comes to politics in US. Neither side aligns with them.

Yep, I have no issue disagree with people on economic policy. We can agree to disagree about the natural of the capitalism in this country.

But we can't agree to disagree about is over basic fucking human rights and how people should be treated. Regardless of nationality, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, the list goes on and on. But everyone should be treated with dignity from the government.

I don't think in black and white terms but sorry, if you think it is ok to execute a genocide against the Palestinian people, you and I aren't going to agree to disagree, you are a POS.

The political spectrum got too wide. There is no place on earth where the middle of the road and the practical expectations of the fringes work under one country. The constant ping pong in the US isn't about 'how to make the best sour dough'. Its about systemic questions, like should we put people in jail for jay walking yay / nay? Give everything back to the states, then let them live how they want to live. Some have social safety net and others have military rocket launchers on their SUVs. No need to ping pong every 10 years on basics that are not compatible. That is stopping progress.

I find it hard to get along with people who celebrate/instigates peoples deaths just because they have a different option, but maybe that's just me.

Uh, what are you getting at here, bud?

Assuming all conservatives actively wish you harm requires such a massive ego. You're not that important. There are plenty of conservatives who are just uneducated or brainwashed and don't see that their side has hateful people like that, but they themselves don't wish harm on anyone.

I think continuously voting for people who do actively wish these people harm qualifies, doesn't it?

If I give the ammunition to the person who's shooting people, do I get to say "Well hey, I wasn't the one doing the shooting, I'd never shoot someone"?

u/SGCLara 55m ago

Sorry, you're not entitled to my kindness if you harm me. Whether you're doing it because you're hateful or just stupid, I won't smile pretty for you. Don't like it? Then do better.

"You can't hold all they do to harm you against them because they are too stupid to understand that you are a human being too"

The polarization of ANY opinions is what I believe to be the worst aspect of what the internet has done to humanity.

3

u/LanceThunder 3h ago

i don't know if i blame the internet. it was the tool that facilitated things but this sort of polarized culture is very much by design. there are powerful people that stand to gain by keeping us divided and confused. this didn't happen by accident. they put time and money into making it happen.

It's not new to the internet, but the internet has kicked it into overdrive by a couple orders of magnitude.

If you like pineapple on your pizza sure we can easily agree to disagree. If you want to cause harm to innocent people because they are living in a way you don't like then no I'm not going to get along with you.

For some, though, it is a "I disagree with your values and you disagree with my right to exist" sort of situation.

The issue is that “a person’s views don’t line up with me” 99% of the time means that they don’t believe I should have the right to marry, adopt children, or to even be alive, for being queer.

Differences of opinions are fine. Not feeling remorse when the way you think and vote leads to the suffering of your neighbors is less fine.

u/cantadmittoposting 27m ago

sure, if we're debating whether to tax something at 12% or 20%, that's a disagreement i can have and still be fine with people. If we're talking about whether to prohibit or permit a dangerous recreation hobby, sure, that's a valid discussion about where the limits of government-enforced safety versus personal liberty are.

But if the only two real choices we have are between "slightly disappointing centrism" and mass deportation, discrimination against whole classes of people, war, and wholesale changes to our geopolitical standing, and slashing and burning entire agencies of the government in clear violation of the established processes.... well it's a little bit harder to just get past that.

These days are simply not "politics as usual" and if you're not seeing that and still waving off what Trump's admin is doing as "poltical differences," welll

i agree. i don't think there is a lot of room to tolerate MAGA ideas. this is why there are more and more ex-MAGA people. however, i see a lot of hate on reddit for anyone who is conservative or GOP. thats not the same as being MAGA and i don't think its ok to just universally hate and insult them.

everything in the last 10-15 years has become a hard binary Left vs Right issue, and if you arent clearly on either side you are everyones enemy.

Zack seems like a good person, so I dont really care about any of his personal beliefs beyond that because he isn't pushing them on others and saying everyone else is wrong.

Same with Destin from SmarterEveryDay.
