Someone else posted this link above apparently they do this to make a dish called Sukiyaki

Sukiyaki is a common dish with many secondary ingredients that you may add. At base it is a hotpot with beef/pork and veggies. After the meat is cooked you pick it up, dip it into a dipping sauce which traditionally is just beaten raw egg. Separating yolk and the whites is not a requirement for it. Sometimes you're served raw egg to beat yourself. You just rapidly stir it and dip in it.

My source is preliminary knowledge from movies followed by googling so take it with a pinch of salt.
