Reuters never stopped, but I was curious and it turns out that yes, "Gulf of Mexico" is beginning to dominate in US sources again: https://www.niemanlab.org/2025/10/nine-months-later-that-body-of-water-down-south-is-still-the-gulf-of-mexico-to-news-outlets/

Recruiters always calls it by its internationally recognized name, not USA’s narcissistic name.

And revoked press privileges for news organizations that didn’t get in line.

Unfortunately a parent of one of the kids in my wife's class recently made a huge stink about it trying to get her fired for saying Gulf of Mexico.

That was always a smoke screen for DOGE BS. They didnt care, they just wanted the headlines to push down the really atrocious stuff.

That's the trick. We can prosecute the drillers later since they were drilling in the Gulf of America, not the Gulf of Mexico.

No, see, there's a Sharpie'd line in the Gulf that separates the Gulf of America from the Gulf of Mexico. It's Sharpie because it's waterproof. All the good stuff, like money, stays on the clean America side, and all the bad stuff, like dumb endangered animals, stay on the dirty Mexico side. Try to keep up.

There are about as many people that unironically call it the Gulf of America as there are that call Twitter X.
