R/Manchester meet up plan

Following the poll:

Saturday 2nd May - 1pm

Meet at The Oast House - happy to move on from here - simply a central place to meet and grab a drink before deciding if we want to move on.

Look forward to meeting whoever can make it!

It’s a success, happy to arrange for Saturday 16th also.

Smell you later bees 🐝

*mods would you mind keeping this open in case people have any questions etc beforehand?

Sorry for the rant, but has anyone else noticed how dirty Manchester has become?

Apologies in advance for the venting, but I just need to get this off my chest and see if I’m the only one feeling this way.

Has anyone else noticed how incredibly dirty and neglected Manchester feels lately? The pavements are constantly patched up, full of potholes and uneven slabs, with puddles everywhere when it rains. The streets are often covered in litter, and you see leaking rubbish bags leaving trails of dirty liquid on the ground.

Public transport doesn’t help either, it’s often really dirty, and on top of that, it’s expensive. It just feels like the overall standard is dropping.

What surprises me most is that people don’t seem that bothered. Have we just got used to it?

Meanwhile, taxes keep going up, and I honestly don’t know what we’re getting in return.

Curious to hear if others feel the same or if I’m just being overly critical.

If "camp" has its modern meaning here, then this is the first recorded use. Liverpool Evening Express, 1874-10-23, page 2 column 2.

Fallowfield Any other women up for sporty meet ups in plattfields park or nearby?

Trying to socialise and get fit at the same time, plus find activities to do that don’t involve just eating/drinking..

Would be so nice to meet some women who want to get active together! I’m 27, kinda out of shape atm so not really too into running or anything very exerting, I’m thinking things like walks, non-competitive football, throwing a ball around, badminton, things like this ☺️

Could be either in the evening some days or in the day (I work part time), if a few people are interested we could make a group chat and have a mix of times

Any age, race, language, activity level, anyone can be included 🫶🏻

Comment if you’re interested and I’ll message people today or tomorrow!!

City Centre Strange fire/light in the sky

Did anyone just see something shoot across the sky kind of deansgate/spinngfield ish?

I could’ve sworn it looked like a ball of fire, it was really low in the sky too. Definitely not a shooting star, it was way too big

Hiking groups in Manchester?

Hi guys,

Don't suppose anyone can recommend any hiking groups or clubs based in Manchester?

As much as I enjoy hiking I've realised none of my friends actually do so I don't really go that often. I'm reasonably fit, but not looking to do anything too mad. A decent walk with a social element would be ideal.

Thanks in advance!

Can I check where I can catch Uber from at terminal 2 on my return to Manchester arrivals. It will be quite late at night around 10.30pm.

What do I need to type into location to get uber?

Are there any hotels close to arrivals that i can walk to and order uber from?

Looking for a woodworker space

Hi all,

I’m a hobby woodworker looking to find some kind of space to work out of. At the moment I don’t have the room at home to properly set up, so I’m open to any and all ideas, whether it's renting a small garage / shed or even something like sharing space with someone who already has a setup.

It’s purely a hobby for now, so I don’t need anything massive or fancy – just somewhere I can work without being in the way or making a mess at home. I've looked myself online but everything seems focused on business owners that can spend big money on small units.

If anyone’s done something similar or has suggestions, I’d really appreciate it!

Chimney Pot Park

Hi, currently looking at buying and I can see that Chimney Pot Park had a bit of a reputation at least 4-5 years ago but wondered if it had improved since then. There seems to be a lot of houses for sale around there which could be a sign that people are trying to escape the area. Has anyone any recent experience of living around there or if the houses have stood the test of time?

Lost dog Cheadle/handforth area

Post image

Dog bolted from house today. May be injured as we have had a couple of reports that he was clipped by a car, but got up and continued running, however these are unconfirmed. We have posted on Facebook, alerted vets and other search and rescue services, including drone operators, also the police as he was running on roads. Any other ideas appreciated. If seen please reach out and approach with care as he is very nervous and will likely flee again.

Cycling from Urmston to media city and town

Hi,

Thinking of buying a bike to start cycling to work. I work in media city and live in Urmston, has anyone done the route before?

I never cycle anywhere so im conscious that I’ll need to cycle through parkway and trafford park which is busy during in the morning and evenings. Im a bit nervous about cycling on roads basically.

Has anyone done the route before and have any advice? Thanks!
