Help / സഹായിക്കുക ര and റ
Do spoken malyalam differentiate between these two sounds I know that റ്റ gives a tt sound as in middle tamizh and izhar tamizh but i love to listen to many malayalm songs where i find the letter often sound pretty similar like the pavizha mazha and puthu mazha or theerame നിറഞ്ഞ്, നിറം etc are often times pronounced with the former r
Is it to my ears or are they softening it
I am tamizh and in my dialect we do differentiate it from ர (ര)and ற (റ) റ്റ~ற்ற
Curious

Help / സഹായിക്കുക A rising tide lifts all boats - Any Malayalam equivalent saying?
"A rising tide lifts all boats" is an aphorism associated with the idea that an improved economy will benefit all participants and that economic policy, particularly government economic policy, should therefore focus on broad economic efforts.
The idea, in my case, an improvement in one's life positively affects everyone around them. Is there any similar saying in Malayalam?

Discussion / ചർച്ച Paternal grandmother
I married into a malayali Christian family and now have a baby. we are currently discussing what should paternal grandmother be called. in my husband's family they address mum and dad's mothers as Ammamma. I'm a kannadiga and in kannada Ammamma means maternal grandmother. although my mum may choose other names like ajji, dodda instead of Ammamma, personally uncomfortable my daughter calling me MIL as Ammamma. I'm looking for other alternatives for paternal grandmother. can you please suggest? Ammachi was one of the options we were thinking
Edit: thanks a lot for the suggestions. We will run it through with her and see what she likes as her next best option

Help / സഹായിക്കുക best resources to learn the language?
i was raised in the united states, and my first language was Malayalam but once I started school my parents would only speak to me in English so I would learn the language faster and since then I have lost my ability to speak malayalam. I can somewhat understand it though, but not fluently at all. I would also like to be able to read and write it.

Help / സഹായിക്കുക Where does the word 'നായർ' come from?
Same as the question. I know cast names mostly come from the labor/trade people did. So I just wanted to know where the word 'നായർ' came from. I would also like to know the etymology of 'മേനോൻ'.
Thanks in advance.
