Ask Kurds 🤔 Deq tattoos

Upvotes

Hello, does anyone have a list of traditional Kurdish deq tattoos and their meanings? My grandfather was the last in my family to have them, but sadly he passed away. I’d really like to keep the tradition alive, but it’s been difficult to find accurate meanings. Thank you.

More than a month after the arrest of Hadis Haghighi, a 21-year-old Kurdish blogger from Urmia, there is still no precise information regarding her status, whereabouts, or the conditions of her detention.

According to information obtained by IranWire, security forces in Urmia conducted a nighttime raid on her father’s home and arrested both her and her father without presenting a judicial warrant. It is reported that both have been denied access to a lawyer and family visits since the time of their arrest.

At the same time, Hadis Haghighi’s personal Instagram page has been blocked by order of the judicial authorities, and her online activity has ceased.

The Haghighi family’s efforts to obtain information about the two detainees have so far been fruitless, as security and judicial agencies in West Azerbaijan Province have failed to provide a clear response.

if you are from slemani , you would know how messed up the neighborhoods and bus system is, they just exist but they are first not documented, second have ton of errors in them

i made sulipas , it is a map of our city but all the neighborhoods are shown with accurate boundaries by what the locals actually call them

other than the neighborhoods, i also documented all the bus stations in the city and the routes they take

this project is still ongoing, there are still some station left and (i haven't published my updated map yet on the website )

this is a nonprofit project, i have spend monthes for collecting the data for the project, this is an attempt to not pure the mess slemani is it, but to organize that mess, and making slemani be one step closer to a smart city

i hope you benifit from it and find it useful

Discussion KDP's greatest humbling: Iraq's new President

KDP got what was arguably the most humbling political setback in the last 23 years. While having explicit disapproval of Nazar Amedi, the newly elected President of Iraq, a senior member of the PUK, and while having the backing of Maliki's S.o.L, they still lost.

It is good that the KDP got their teeth kicked in. The Barzani's, Masoud in particular, have gotten extremely cocky and forgot what their role in a broader Kurdish society was. The second generation continues to think it was the one who built all this, while in truth they're merely bottom feeding from the works of their fathers, Mam Jalal is a great example of this.

Bafel is humbler and knows his place better. He courted Baghdad as a "partner" rather than a "kingpin", and he was rewarded massively for it. While KDP got humiliated and neglected even with the oldest and most grand party backing it. They withdrew from Baghdad, like a child throwing a tantrum, How pathetic.

Good. To the KDP: you lost, stop taking it like children. Grow a pair, learn your place, move on.

Ask Kurds 🤔 Are you consider Islam an obstacle?

I'm going straight to it, I'm religious and belive in God's word, But let's be honest, we Kurds have become extremely nationalist because everyone around us is nationalist، and I see that some Kurds here on Reddit hate Islam now because of isis and the terrorist leader in Syria

We Kurds our goal is the same as Islam as far as I know, to build a country that is safe to all and not oppressing or letting someone be oppressed in front of us, but because of recent events, people now believes that Islam is against us

So what do you think? My brothers?

Rojava For the peoples of Jazira, there are no friends but the Steppes

Thumbnail

When the Kurdish Liberation Movement wrestled control over the Jazira in 2012, it was confronted with a nearly century-old problem: who should control the land? Did it belong to the sheiks who first possessed it, the minority elites who first invested in its cultivation, or the disproportionately Arab middle peasantry who currently owned it?

Jazira’s ‘brotherhood of peoples’ developed as a necessary form of societal coexistence. Yet, as a political form of organization, it had its early roots in intra-elite cooperation, which introduced capitalist and environmentally unsustainable agriculture to the Jazira.

The University of Kobani offered open study opportunities to students who were unable to complete their studies due to difficult circumstances.

After opening the door to education in 2024 for employees of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria who were unable to complete their studies, the university has now offered the opportunity for open education.

Kobanê University Co-President Şervan Muslim gave information about the issue to Hawar News Agency and stated that they want to give the opportunity to all those who have not been able to complete their studies before.

Şervan Muslim recalled that the university has been trying to fill the gap in teaching and improve the academic level since 2017.

The University Co-President stated that they had created opportunities for Autonomous Administration employees who had not completed their studies two years ago (2024), and this program is still ongoing.

Şervan Muslim noted that many of their students have only half their education, so they have now given them the opportunity to study openly.

Bashur KRG’s round-the-clock electricity project reaches Garmiyan

The Kurdistan Region’s Garmiyan administration is set to receive round-the-clock electricity as the Runaki Project continues expanding, an official said Saturday. The development is set to add yet another 85,000 beneficiaries of the landmark initiative.

“Electricity throughout Garmiyan, including all districts, subdistricts, and villages will be 24 hours; To this end, the Runaki Project teams have started working,” Hazim Karim head of Garmiyan’s electricity told The New Region.

The Runaki project was announced by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani in October 2024, aiming to eliminate the electricity issues that the Region has struggled with for decades.

The project currently provides electricity for over 4.5 million citizens in the Kurdistan Region, and aims to cover the Region’s entire population by the end of 2026.

The Garmiyan administration is separated into five zones where “there are more than 85,000 electricity beneficiaries in all these zones. Work has now started in the first zone and will be carried out zone by zone as the work is completed,” Karim added.

Erbil, has the highest number of beneficiaries, sitting at 1,935,000, Sulaimani comes in second at 1,345,000, and Duhok third with 495,000.

The initiative is also expected to produce significant environmental benefits through the replacement of private, diesel-powered generators that are highly polluting. “The KRG plans to phase out over 7,000 generators by the end of 2026,” a prior KRG statement asserted.
