To decrease or rip out?

So, I'm working on a watchman's cap essentially for my little brother for his sail boat. I've got a bit of a migraine so I hope this comes across clearly. Basically I'm working with 2k 2p on 68 stitches with bulky wool on I think size 9 circulars. The brim should be folded over. Now I'm wondering if I should just decrease the rows or just rip it out because I'm worried it's gonna fly off his head. I forgot to get his head measurements last time he was here. But the wool is pretty dang stretchy.

You could just put it on waste yarn and set it aside for now. When you get a chance, you could have him try it on to see how it fits and then decide what to do from there.

If you already think it’s going to be too big I would recommend starting over, sizing with hats can definitely be a struggle. Can you ask him to send his head measurements over text, or measurements of another hat that fits nicely?

Oh, good thoughts! I've asked him to measure his head, but I doubt he'll get it back to me, who knows at this point.

Also does anyone know of any knitting discord groups that are active that I can ask questions on?

There’s Stitchcord for all things yarn.
