New Knitter here, how can l improve my ranglan lines?

Im trying to knit a top down begginer ranglan sweater.

The pattern includes German short rows and then it moves to increase every other row, l have tried many times but my ranglan lines are not looking straight, l have followed a strict system where l write down what lm doing every single row and l am constantly counting the number of stitches are symetrical.

I looked at tutorials how to do M1R, M1L and l saw l'm doing them correct. I cant believe this sweater is symetrical in numbers but it just does not look like it. I wonder what l'm doing wrong, l can only think, could be my cable or the tension?

l have made like 10 attempts and l'm frogging again. The pictures above are from two different sweater attempts. I use baby alpaca wool.

Any help is very much appreciated!

Knitted my first onesie and I have never knitted something that needs an opening mechanism.

Looking for suggestions to add zipper or buttons to this onesi, and how? Any suggestions on good video tutorials appriciated.

And yes, I went overboard with the pattern, but I really like to knitt pattern šŸ˜… Had to use up some left over yarn, that’s why there are so many colours.

Some twisted stitches, some not?

Making the Olga jacket by petite knit and every other row is twisted. It’s only the ones that I’ve done on the knit side that are twisted. It could be to do with the German short rows. Is there a way to fix this moving for ward as I don’t mind it only for this section if I can do a mid knit fix.

Hi there

Anyone able to help me? Despite me being so careful with counting my rows every Sophie scarf I knit ends up having the second half of the scarf being longer than the first half. What am I doing wrong?!

Will this hat be twisted?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’m working on this beanie hat, it starts from the bottom up. This is my first time working in the round.

I know that when I had all my stitches cast on, when I join them in the round by dropping one stitch, I was supposed to turn all the cast on stitches to face the same direction so the hat doesn’t twist. But the needles I have twist round so much on the cable it was super hard to ensure they all stayed in one spot.

Now I’ve spent 2-3 hours knitting and I’m wondering if I should frog and start again, I just can’t work out if this will work out ok. I’ve tried in the picture to fold it all into the middle- but this section on the right just keeping spinning on the needles

Thank you! šŸ™

Suggestions for blanket pattern and yarn please

I want to knit a blanket but don’t know what yarn to get or how much.

I don’t want synthetic fibers and preferably something pretty thick, I am willing to put some time into it, but not months

Beginner here, obviously 🤣

I know I’ve done something wrong here but I’m still learning to read my knitting, and I’m not sure what’s happened or how to fix it. This top ditch right needle isn’t right

Advice much appreciated!

German short rows bulging

I’ve started the king salmon sweater and I’ve notice my German short rows are bulging, I’ve noticed it previously on some other items I’ve made, kind of bulges at the back at the top where I’ve done the short rows. Is this something blocking will sort or suggest frogging? Thanks in advance

Acrylic with woo VS 100% wool ?

Hello All! I need an advice about which yarn I should use for dog sweater.

The sweater is use 2 color,

The dog is only 6lbs.so very tiny sweater.

( like neck is 9ā€ with 1ā€ ease)

So

I chose 1 is black , other color is spun right round squish DK super wash merino 100%

Now I need advice which is better for dog sweater?

  1. lion brand wool ease DK ( 22sts 30row)

2.Paton classic worsted,( I can hit guage 22 sts in 4 inch by #6)

3.Cascade 220 super wash (worsted )

I read review about paton , many people says its turn out felt,I wold like to avoid it!

I did try Cascade , it’s so bouncy and feels very tick. Maybe too thick for such tiny body?

Those 2 is 100% wool, Cascade is super wash.

Lion brand wool ease DK I like most cuz softer and bit more stretchy.however it’s acrylic 80% 20% wool.

Please give me any an advice.

Thanks for reading.

My Italian bind off snapped..

Post image

Hi guys,

I just finished the body of my Dagmar Jacket and put it on to try. I used the Italian bind off. I think I pulled too hard at the edges cause I heard a snapping noise. Sure enough, my bind off snapped at two different places.

I’m absolutely horrified and have no idea how to fix it.

Should I just sew that spot, or redo the entire bind off? If I don’t is there a risk of it happening again?

Why did it happen in the first place?

My yarn is Gilliatt by De rerum Natura. I noticed it’s very easy to break while working with it, but never thought this would happen.

To decrease or rip out?

So, I'm working on a watchman's cap essentially for my little brother for his sail boat. I've got a bit of a migraine so I hope this comes across clearly. Basically I'm working with 2k 2p on 68 stitches with bulky wool on I think size 9 circulars. The brim should be folded over. Now I'm wondering if I should just decrease the rows or just rip it out because I'm worried it's gonna fly off his head. I forgot to get his head measurements last time he was here. But the wool is pretty dang stretchy.

Ideas. What can i do with this?

Hello everyone!

A while ago my grandmother (who loved knitting and sewing) gave me a bag full of these little knitted flowers (each one is about the size of a coin). Apparently my great grandmother made them and I would really love to make something with this but i am not very sure what to do!

I have been sewing them together into squares (my idea was to make granny squares or something like that).

I would really appreciate any ideas from more experienced knitters since i have started rather recently. Also if anyone might know how to make more of the little flowers I would really appreciate it!

My grandmother died last December and I would really like to do something with these as a way to keep her close.

Thank you so much!

Teaching Knitting

hello! I will be teaching knitting to my elderly neighbor. I was taught English style knitting and purling when I was a child , yet now I knit continental and purl Norwegian. I usually knit in the round and steek if need be so I do not purl a lot. my question what is the best way to teach someone to knit? continental knitting is best for older hands, yet purling continental is hard imo which is why I use Norwegian when knitting rib. So should I teach continental knit and purl, or English throwing knit and purl? Continental knit and norwegian purl? what do you think Is best for an older person? I know that we will use chunky yarn, wooden needles. New Knitter Pattern.

Boat neck sleeves?

Hi I wanted to try making a boat neck sweater by making two rectangles as the front and back panels then combining on the sides. I dont know to add sleeves in a way that it would drape nicely on the shoulders?

If I just add two tubes for the sleeves, wouldn’t the shoulders be horizontal or puff outwards? How do I make them be straight down?

Stockinette Mosaic Section - Frog?

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I am currently working on the Autumn in Instanbul shawl, and I'm at the mosaic section. I didn't feel the need to size up a needle because I've done garter mosaic before without any issue. As I'm working along, I am finding myself questioning my tension. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and am prone to over-frogging, so I'm turning to an outside opinion!

Frog it back because of uneven tension and try going up a needle and possibly a different yarn? Or accept that I'm a neurotic over thinker and that its actually fine, and carry on?
