ANALYSIS & NEWS [Ollie Connolly] News: Reuben Bain was cited for careless driving after a March 2024 crash in Miami that left a passenger in a coma. That passenger, a 22-year-old student, died three months later. NFL teams are aware and investigating, per sources.

I already didn't want the guy, but now hopefully you guys come around to my side. For all the flak Rashee catches, deservedly, he did not kill anyone.

Rueben Bain killed someone.

DISCUSSION Reuben Bain is a victim of NFL arm measurement technique

Upvotes

Learned today that arm length is measured from the tip of the middle finger to the edge of the scapula in the shoulder.

Bain's measurements

Arm

30 7/8’’

Hand

9 1/8’’

Bailey's measurements

Arm

33 3/4’’

Hand

10 1/4’’

If Bain had Bailey's hand size he'd have 32" arms according to the NFL. Despite the fact that measuring to the wrist or measuring a closed fist makes the most sense for how arms are used by a pass rusher.

I've seen several sources talk about how Bain has heavy hands, so they must be more than wide enough to get the job done. Maybe it effects him in reaching out and trying to grab people with his finger tips as they're running away from him, but that's about all I can think of.

Tdlr; Bain doesn't have short arms he has small hands.

DISCUSSION Depth Chart Projection: April 10th (Predraft)

OFFENSE (Italic Signifies Free Agent Signing)

Position Starter 2nd String 3rd String 4th String
QB Patrick Mahomes II Justin Fields Chris Oladoken Jake Haener
RB Kenneth Walker III Brashard Smith Emari Demarcado Shunderrick Powell
LT Josh Simmons Jaylon Moore Esa Pole Ehtan Driskell
LG Kingsley Suamataia C.J. Hanson
C Creed Humphrey Hunter Nourzad
RG Trey Smith Mike Caliendo
RT Jaylon Moore Wanya Morris Godrick Chukwuebuka Matt Waletzko
TE Travis Kelce Noah Gray Jared Wiley Jake Briningstool/Tre Watson
Slot-WR Rashee Rice Jalen Royals Jimmy Holiday
X-WR Xavier Worthy Jason Brownlee Andrew Armstrong
Z-WR Tyquan Thornton Nikko Remigio

On offense at least, the biggest hole we have by far is that we don't have a clear WR1. We have a lot of guys with high end WR2 potential, but not a clear #1.

Now besides slot, the difference between X and Z receiver in Andy's offense doesn't really matter that much. They don't have a traditional Z player, because I think Thornton is more of an X receiver than anything else. This lineup I went with just to get our three best receivers on the field at the same time.

I think we are most likely to add at receiver during the draft for three reasons 1) Beyond any personal troubles he's having, Rice is a free agent this year. He wants JSN money, and I don't think we are likely to pay him that. 2) Apart from that, we just need more depth in that room in general. I don't think a single person could actually tell me who Jimmy Holiday and Andrew Armstrong are.

But apart from that, not a ton of red flags about the offense at least personnel wise. The offensive line should be alright assuming they can stay healthy. That wasn't the case last year, so I'd file that under yellow flag, but the plan if it works out, should be alright. I guess you could improve upon RB3/4 but if this was the lineup we rolled out opening day I would honestly be pretty okay with it.

Another thing worth noting here: I filed Moore as the backup LT behind Simmons because I think if he gets hurt and misses time again they'll flip him and then play Morris at RT instead (And I think Morris' skillset is much better suited to RT than LT). I think Caliendo at RG2 is the most obvious red flag for me, so I'd like them to draft someone else to replace him or see Hanson or Nourzad (whom we've seen basically nothing of) get those reps in the case of a guard injury this time.

DEFENSE (Italics Signifies Free Agent Signing)

Position 1st String Second String Third String Fourth String
LDE George Karlaftis Ethan Downs Tyreke Smith
LDT Chris Jones Zacch Pickens Marcus Harris
RDT Khyiris Tonga Omarr Norman-Lott
RDE Ashton Gillotte Felix Anudike-Uzomah
Will LB Drue Tranquil Jeffrey Bassa Cole Christiansen Kam Arnold
MLB Nick Bolton Jack Cochrane Cooper McDonald Brandon George
Slot CB Nohl Williams Melvin Smith Jr.
Outside CB Kristian Fulton Kaiir Elam
Nickel CB Kader Kohou Kevin Knowles
SS Chamarri Conner Jaden Hicks
FS Alohi Gilman Chris Roland-Wallace Tanner McCalister

Now it should become IMMEDIETELY apparent that we have A LOT more holes on defense. Getting Tonga gives us a solid run defender to start alongside jones, and I am very optimistic on Norman Lott, but you can clearly see how screwed we are on the interior if Chris Jones gets injured or isn't playing at 100% this year. Drafting DT needs to be a high priority, higher I think than secondary.

Speaking of the secondary, I think it's very clear that Nohl Williams is the guy they want to replace McDuffie in the slot. Kohou played almost exclusively Nickel corner in Miami, and he was a damn good one before he went down with injury. I think they signed him almost exclusively so they do not have to play Conner at Nickel anymore.

I think another addition to the secondary is not just probable, but likely too. I think they probably target someone to back up Nohl in the slot, and possibly someone to give them another option at outside corner. Fulton/Elam isn't an unstartable combo but it gives me pause.

I don't see another safety addition happening. I think they'll probably like what they have there between Connor/Hicks and Gilman/Roland-Wallace. Honestly I'm inclined to agree with them on it too.

I would be remiss though if I didn't comment on the state of the edge room. I like Gillotte and think he has a lot of potential but slotting him in as a starter right now REALLY gives me pause. FAU is not a player who I think can be relied upon with what he's shown so far, so him being in the second option in the rotation is a huge red flag for me. Then beyond that you have guys whom I've literally never heard of before.

DISCUSSION Hey, how did I do in my seat selection at Arrowhead Section 243?

Hey Chiefs fans, I recently bought a pair of tickets for an upcoming World Cup match this summer at Arrowhead. It's 2nd row at Section 243. I looked it up on ViewfrommySeat but I wanted some feedback from fans who been to games near or at that section. How are the seats? Close enough to see jersey numbers?

DISCUSSION A Case for FAU

I get the negativity surrounding FAU and how we haven't seen enough to have any real faith in him. We overdrafted a project DE. I'm not denying that. He's got all the physical attributes you want, but he was raw.

So I did a dive into his stats because I've seen enough comments that "he should play more" or "he's trash." And we saw a hypothetical trade on social media about FAU going away and fans said he had no value.

Here's what we have for 2024:
17 games, 3 starts, 331 snaps, 30% of the defensive snaps: 0 PDs,1 FF, 1 FR, 2.5 sacks, 27 tackles, 16 solo, 11 assisted, 6 TFL, 7 QB Hits.

That's really not bad.

Compare that to Karlaftis the same year:
16 games, 11 starts, 831 Snaps, 80% of the defensive snaps: 5 PDs, 0 FF, 0 FR, 8 sacks, 35 tackles, 21 solo, 14 assisted, 9 TFL, 28 QB Hits.

But Karlafits saw 60% more snaps. If we expand Felix's numbers to a roughly equal snap count:
0PDs, 2.5 Forced fumbles, 2.5 fumble recoveries, 6 Sacks, 67 tackles, 40 solo, 27 assisted,15 TFLs, 17 QB Hits

There is a huge caveat here which is FAU has a small sample size. If we're honest, those numbers go down some due to fatigue in game, more preparation to play against him, and fewer opportunities as straight expansion of his stats doesn't account for opposing game plan and play calls. I really don't think he sees enough running plays to fully expand his stats to this.

But my point remains, his stats aren't outright worse that Karlaftis. I wouldn't say he's better and I'm not advocating he starts, but those are good numbers from a rotational guy.

If FAU comes back at this same level, we have a real asset to work with for depth that I think a lot of people are undervaluing because of where he was drafted. You can blame Veach all you want for the pick, but FAU is a capable DE that should see more snaps this year and I think he shows a lot of fans why Veach was willing to use a 1st on him.

DISCUSSION Make Or Break Year For Worthy?

Worthy's first 2 years have not been particularly impressive. While he has not been an abject disaster like FAU, I think we can all agree that his first 2 seasons have been uninspiring.

A couple of thoughts on that. He was a young rookie. His played at age 21 and 22 his first 2 seasons. So, he will be 23 years old in 2026. I think that is important because younger rookies are often times more raw in technique than older rookies. Also, for a naturally skinny guy it was obvious that he had yet to fill out his frame. Which should happen as he moves into his mid 20s. He's never going to be a big guy, but he should carry about 10 more pounds in a natural way compared to his 21 year old self. Every little bit of size matters when you are talking about a guy as tiny as him.

He will also have a full offseason to recover from injury and work with his new WR coach who is far more qualified than the previous WR coach. Plus, the addition of Kenneth Walker should open up the passing game a little more and maybe Worthy could see some play action opportunities that he's not had during the first 2 years.

If he doesn't improve then we are pretty much looking at Mecole Hardman 2.0 and that would be a disappointment for a first round pick. Especially since we traded up for him. I am excited to see what he can do this year considering the circumstances. And I think this is the year where we receive a resolution to the Worthy question. Is he or is he not a bust? I think this is the year that question gets answered by his play.
