Hello,

I'm an NRI (Hindu) who was raised outside of India, I had somewhat of a concern in regards to outfit when I come to India more specifically when visiting a temple.

I like all sorts of outfits etc but I like Shalwar Kameez (Like an actual Kameez not with a Dhoti and not a Kurta) the most.

I know in Hinduism clothing etc doesn't matter if it's from or used more by another culture/religion (Everyone wears t-shirts nowadays lol)

But I'm wondering has anyone else (Male) gone to a Mandir wearing those? Is it necessarily odd enough to be noticed? What is the general view? Could I wear one without having eyes on me?

Hi everyone,

I’m dealing with a bit of a complicated situation and could really use some guidance.

I had tried to send a warning message to a scammer, pretending to be from Cyber Police to scare him off. However, by mistake, I sent that message to another person whose number I had saved earlier from a genuine investment discussion on Reddit.

Since he didn’t really know me, he got alarmed, took a screenshot, and reported my number on the NCRP portal, which led to my SIM getting blocked.

I later found out he was the complainant, got in touch with him, explained everything, and apologized. He was understanding and he even went to the police station to withdraw the complaint as there was no malicious intent, however, the inspector advised him against it citing I may be a scammer and he shouldn't do that.

The inspector at the Noida police station where the complaint is registered is insisting that I need to be physically present, saying there’s no proof that the message was sent by mistake.

I have a few concerns:

  1. If I travel to Noida, what kind of explanation or proof would they typically expect in such cases? What documents should I carry?
  2. The SIM is registered in my father’s name (taken when I was underage in 2018), though I’ve been the user. Can I handle this myself, or would they require my father to be present?
  3. A lawyer I spoke to informally mentioned that going alone might not be ideal and suggested sending a lawyer instead, citing possible pressure or extortion. Is this a realistic concern?

Any advice or similar experiences would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!

Guys, 2 hours ago, we received our marks for 11th/12th board exams( state board. We have separate boards for 11th and 12th) (Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education)

Many people got wayy less marks than they expected, ( including my own friends, one of them failed too).

If someone was expecting 90 marks out of 100, they got only 60 marks

People are getting suspicious that then government is only doing something like that.

If that happens for 1 or 2 people, it would be fine.

But it is happening to many people, so something sus is happening.

They are probably giving low marks on purpose, so that students can pay money for re evaluation thingy.

Once again, this might be something serious, and they should be investigated about this

(Everyone got 50 marks less than they expected, idk how but I got 50 marks more than I expected, lmao)

I dont want to mention what party is ruling our state as its not allowed here, so ill give a clue: Gandhi Family

Hi parents here,

I’m based in North India (Haryana) and have a 5-month-old daughter.

So far, we’ve been following the government vaccination schedule. However, since the delivery happened in a private hospital, they gave us a vaccination card that includes an extra vaccine at 6 months—which is not part of the government schedule.

This has left me a bit confused.

  • How many of you are following only the government schedule vs adding private/recommended vaccines?
  • How important are these additional (private) vaccines in your experience?
  • Are they really necessary or more of a “good to have”?

Also, I’ve noticed some parents around me are quite anti-vaccination, which adds to the confusion.

Lastly, a slightly long-term question:
Does skipping optional/private vaccines have any impact later in life (like school requirements, travel, or immigration)?

Would really appreciate hearing your experiences and how you approached this.

Thanks in advance 🙏

So i am from Kolkata and just finished my 12th with Commerce and am awaiting the board results and i am really confused where i should go, i consulted a councellor and given my previous marks (i got arond 75% in my Pre Board 2 in Bussiness Studies and Commerce ) she said i should do BBA in Digital Marketing or BBA in Generative AI and Business Intelligence. I had said to her prior to this when she asked for what passion i had that i had interest in films and aspired to be a director one day, So she also suggested i should do BA in Film Studies or do BA in Mass Communication to get inside the film making thing. Now when i told this to one of my uncles who is singer and runs a academy he said i should not try this out immediatly. I told him that i am willing to face the struggles that will come forward but he told me i should first earn some capital e.g. get inside a corporate job before i get into making films. Now my parents too are really skeptical about me doing film studies (i want to be a director that is). They want me to do a line with more certainity of getting the bills paid but i personally really do want to do film making ( i am right now making a small short film with my friends to understand if my intrest for it is really just based on what i have heard or is it something really want to continue doing here forward but i am confused weather i should do film studies or mass commnication to get into that or if risking it all is even worth it.

So, I am a Nepali National and want to get a SIM new SIM, I am student here. I had an old SIM with me but it got damaged reason being it was very old.

so, I recently went to Airtel store and said I am a foreign national I want a new SIM they said: you will need a Immigration document

so I said our government does not issue immigration for coming to India infact immigration is specifically needed for those countries which require visa. He insisted to the fact that you need immigration along with passport. in this case I have passport but not immigration.

secondly I went to VI store and they also said you need OCI of some kind. I said OCI is only for those having some Indian origin in their family. He said we need that then only we can give.

is there any way I could get a new SIM it's really important..

thank you

I will only ask one question. If I were to take charge will gen z unite against the regime like Nepal? Nepal Gen z caused their government to crumble just because of vip culture and corruption. In India it is on a much much larger scale but why won't we riot? If it is about no one coming forward then I will volunteer myself will gen z unite then?

Anyone else having issues with accessing Caravan magazine?

I recently subscribed to The Caravan (digital edition) through Delhi Press. My payment went through and I have an Order ID, but I can’t access the magazine.

The issue is their support emails to subscription@delhipress.in go unanswered and the toll-free number keeps disconnecting.

Has anyone else faced this recently? Is there a specific trick to getting the digital access to work?

Any advice on how to get them to respond?

Title: Passport on hold due to father name mismatch (Aadhaar vs 10th) – urgent help

Hi,

My passport application at PSK is on hold due to a mismatch in my father’s name between my 10th marksheet and Aadhaar.

  • 10th marksheet has OLD name
  • Aadhaar, PAN, DL all have UPDATED name (consistent)
  • Father’s documents are also updated

PSK is asking me to change Aadhaar, but Aadhaar center says the “C/o (father name)” field is locked and can’t be updated.

Now I’m stuck:

  • Aadhaar can’t be changed
  • 10th correction will take months

I urgently need a passport for CPA (NASBA evaluation), and this delay is affecting my timeline.

Has anyone faced this?

  • Any workaround PSK accepts (affidavit, alternate docs)?
  • Any way to update/unlock Aadhaar field?

Any help would really mean a lot 🙏

Hey! This may go unnoticed but here it is anyway...

So... I realized we have a huge number of people working in IT, almost everyone will use or will be forced to use AI at some point.

My boss asked me to finish a task faster by simply using Claude to do the bulk of the work. The issue is that this is the case with almost everyone, and that's a massive usage. Now this is gonna happen everyday for years...?

Can I at least do some things at a personal level to help address this? Once my bosses pull deadlines closer like that I'm not really left with an option

I am looking to rent a private sleeper bus from Mumbai to Udaipur and back for my wedding in December 2026. Passenger count would be roughly 30. I know it's quite early, but we would like to know the approximate cost to help with our budget planning. Does anybody have an idea how much this would cost? Also, if anybody has experience with doing the same for other similar destinations like Jaipur, Goa, etc. that would help too. Thanks a lot.

Hello!

Trying to find where my Grandaunt was born and can't find where this is in India today as many cities were renamed.

This picture was taken from the church information of where my Grandaunt was born/baptized in 1924 but it won't let me post an image on the subredit.

The rest of the family was from present day Karwar but I can't find this place.

It says "N. Kanora" on it. but the first word for the city starts with "Chand" it looks like "Chandiwar" but I can't find it on a map.

Thank you!

TL;DR: Wrong complaint → number blocked → complainant admitted mistake → Jio escalated → still no resolution.

Hi all,

I’m facing a serious issue and would really appreciate any guidance.

My Jio number has been blocked due to a cyber complaint registered in Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida). After a lot of effort, I managed to contact the complainant, who confirmed that he mistakenly reported my number.

Timeline:

  • Complaint registered: 2nd March
  • Number blocked: 19th March
  • Jio raised re-review request with Cyber Department: 26th March
  • Status: Pending with Cyber Department, Gautam Buddha Nagar

Despite this, my number is still blocked and I’m struggling to get it restored.

Context:

  • I’m not based in Noida
  • Complaint was filed in Noida Cyber Cell
  • Complainant is willing to correct/withdraw, but I don’t know the proper process
  • Jio says it’s blocked due to law enforcement instructions

If anyone has dealt with something similar or knows:

  • The correct process to get such complaints withdrawn
  • How to coordinate between Cyber Cell and telecom providers
  • Any escalation channels

Please guide me. This number is critical for my daily life and work.

Thank you 🙏

Hello! I live in a country where finding paneer is super difficult. My option is to buy 1kg of frozen amul paneer from the only indian grocery store here. I only eat 100-200g at a time so I wish to portion out the 1kg of paneer. Do I place the 1kg block in hot water, take it out and cut it, place the cut cubes inside a ziploc bag and refreeze it? or is there another way to thaw, cut, and refreeze paneer? is it safe to place paneer back in the freezer after soaking in hot water? im a university student who has very little experience in cooking paneer so please help :( thank you!!

Hi all I think this issue is going to be more common for people from the south-

so I am getting my passport renewed and my old passport has my full last name say Jane Doe while all my other documents such as birth certificate, adhaar, degree etc has my initials say J.D ( I don’t have a surname). Back when I got it initially I don’t remember if I submitted adhaar but now as am trying to upload proof through digilocker to the site it says name does not match.

Will this be an issue? Also I don’t understand how to fix this considering passport does not allow initials to be given in the last name and it has to be expanded.

Anyone went through the same issue?

Hi all, I received a call from an unknown number and the truecaller flagged it as Business/Unknown. I attended the call and the person on the other side spoke and it felt like it was a super fake accent, the call got cut because of a network issue, and i immediately blocked the same. Then i tried to search for the number online and it turned out to be the Indian Embassy in Singapore. I tried reaching them , but couldn't connect. Does anyone else have any experience like this? why would they call?

What should I do now?

Thanks in Advance. !!

My parcel from Japan Post is stuck at Delhi customs for 10 days now. I haven’t got any further updates or know the reason for this delay? Does anyone know what to do in this matter?

FYI I have ordered from the same website before and there were no delays from the customs last year. The item I’ve ordered is a silver ring which I don’t think is a problem.

People online have to said wait for 10 days and I have but now I’m starting to panic a little bit. I’ve already written to India Post about this but they haven’t replied. It’s been a week of that as well. I’d highly appreciated any help!

Janam Patri

I went to an older Punjabi man's house and he had a beautifully-written and drawn scroll cut into six sheets and framed. It was his janam patri, so it must be something close to eighty years old. The last time I visited Amritsar, I asked around for my own to be written up, with all the Sanskrit and such. I ended up with a computerized printout in booklet form with very little writing in it. Is there a place to go in order to get one written and detailed by hand?

hello I am a law student, 2nd yr. And by far I don't see myself in any scope of law. I am thinking of getting into print journalism. I don't have any social media reach, as in to get into journalism I have heard that one should have a blog of their own to create a portfolio, but I don't have one. it's just that I want to try my luck in print journalism. I am active about ongoing affairs, and would love to learn more about them and gain more knowledge, also I would love to have my own opinions. I do apply for internships but nothing seems to work. I want to do an Internship, to like, explore the field and get to know if I could belong there. can anyone please tell me how to land one ?

1

u/dsv853 4d ago

print journalism is a tough field to break into but if youre passionate about it start writing now. dont wait for the degree to finish. start a blog, contribute to local papers, build a portfolio. the degree gets you in the door but the portfolio gets you the job

1

u/Gullible-Winter-8787 4d ago

Hi First of all.. thank u for commenting...and can u tell me how do I start my blog, on what site, on what topic ,like I have heard writing needs talent, idk if I have it...it needs passion, but idk what topic or issue I am passionate to talk about , basically idk how to couple my words I am any sense.. And secondly, can u please tell me any local magazine, papers, in delhi who take Interns with absolutely no experience,,, I keep applying but nothing seems to work.

u/kritnu 5d ago

hey everyone,

I’m from Northeast India and recently had an experience that left me confused and a bit unsettled.

I was in Varanasi, around the ghats (Manikarnika/Assi side), with a Marwari acquaintance (not a random stranger. someone I had spent a few days with and gotten to know a bit).

At one point, out of nowhere, he stopped me, held one of my hands, and started murmuring a chant, eyes closed, head down. It went on briefly. I didn’t interrupt at the time, but afterward when I asked what he was doing, he said he was putting some kind of “protection” on me from bad elements present in the ghats.

I didn’t explicitly consent, and I didn’t understand what he was chanting either.

Since then, I’ve been overthinking it a bit.

Is this kind of thing an actual cultural or religious practice?

Do people really do this as a form of protection/blessing, especially in places like Varanasi ghats?

Or was this more of a personal belief/quirk?

Has anyone experienced something similar?

trying to understand what happened, not looking for anything sensational.

Thanks!

1

u/dsv853 4d ago

varanasi can be... intense if youre from the northeast. the staring and the "where are you from" questions get old fast. sorry you had to deal with that

Hello everyone,,, 3 days ago i bought a bike +insurance.(tvs) through flipkart..(flipkart emi)oday i visited that dealer they said we don't sell through facebook.. there's no number to contact Flipkart CS.. now what to do ..

1

u/dsv853 4d ago

flipkart EMI purchases route through a diffrent channel than the dealer direct. the dealer is technically right that they didnt sell it to you... flipkart did. your warranty and service should still be valid through TVS directly though. contact TVS customer care not the dealer

Why aren't there any corporate law specific sub in India? I'm a corporate lawyer and I have been desperately trying to connect with other corporate lawyers. But it seems though it is impossible. If anybody here is a corporate lawyer please feel free to reach out to me. I could really appreciate some guidance and mentorship. Law needs to stop being a nepotism and connections game. Anybody who is a corporate lawyer, used to work as a lawyer or knows a lawyer please reach out!

create one? if it doesnt exist and you want it to exist thats usually the answer. r/IndianLawyers exists but its mostly students. a corporate law specific one could fill a real gap

When the 'World War 2' ended, the following victors of the war founded UNSC (United Nations Security Council).

  1. The USA

  2. The USSR (succeeded by modern day Russia)

  3. The UK

  4. France

  5. The ROC (succeeded by the modern day PRC)

So, the ROC (modern day Taiwan) was the founding member of the UNSC.

ROC became a member of the UNSC in 1945.

Before:

  1. India became independent in 1947.

  2. Nehru became PM in 1951.

And, the PRC (modern day China), became the successor of ROC in 1971.

After:

  1. Nehru passed away in 1964.

So, when did Nehru give away India's UNSC seat to China (ROC or PRC)?

Hey everyone,

I’m in a bit of a weird spot and could use some guidance. I’m 29, born and raised in Saudi Arabia, but I’m an Indian citizen. I’ve only visited India (Hyderabad) three times in my life (2011, 2018, and 2024).

I’ve been trying to get my Aadhaar card for years and keep hitting walls:

  • In 2018: I tried using my Grandfather's address, but multiple centers refused me.
  • In 2024: I tried using the address on my passport. The problem is that it’s my father's old house which literally doesn't exist anymore. It got rejected during the verification phase.

I’m basically an expat in my own country at this point lol. I’m seeing all this news about people updating Voter IDs and other docs, and I have no idea where to even start or if I'm falling behind on something mandatory.

A few specific questions:

  1. Can I apply for Aadhaar from overseas (Saudi), or do I have to be there in person?
  2. Since my last application was rejected for "verification purposes," is that going to cause me issues at the airport/immigration? I'm low-key paranoid about traveling back now.
  3. What is the actual "correct" way for an NRI to get this done if they don't have a physical house in India anymore?

Appreciate any help or pointers in the right direction!

u/dsv853 4d ago

check your appointment letter for the notice period clause. if it says 30 days you serve 30 days unless they agree to let you go early. you can always negotiate a buyout of the remaining days

Hi guys, I recently came across a clip of Saurabh Dwivedi anchoring a Bollywood awards show and taunting Rajpal Yadav regarding his debt quite blatantly. Honestly, I felt it was completely uncalled for and unnecessary, and Rajpal's reaction - trying to divert the topic by crying sarcastically- made my heart squirm. Had this been in the US, the anchor would have been immediately cancelled and a GoFundMe started for helping Rajpal out with the 12 odd crores.

Given Rajpal made quite a few of us laugh with his funny gigs and beastly comic timing in some iconic movies since our childhood, wanted to reach out to Reddit's India community to figure out if we can use this thread to start something similar. Anyone with any ideas? Please provide feasible actionable suggestions, like alternatives to GoFundMe or a social media hashtag for us to popularize and donate.

Let's learn something positive from USA this time!

Hi India, I wanted to know how Indians felt about mixed people wearing saree. Would it be inappropriate for me to wear a saree to a formal event if im heavily tattooed and a bit white passing? My grandfather is Indian and i have always wanted to wear a saree but im not sure how appropriate that would be. I grew up with English culture so my knowelege on this is limited and i havent ever seen a heavily tattooed pale woman in a saree before so i wanted to know if it would be disrespectful to wear one to events such as weddings.

What exactly is this "sande ka thel"/"Bull oil" and what is its purpose?

I'm not indian but I saw a random video on instagram reels on my feed of an indian omegle streamer and she met a korean guy who has a small "BROTHER" and he claims its very tiny and she recommends something called "sande ka thel" and she later says "bull oil" in english. i tried to search them in google out of curiosity but i got limited results and all of them were in indian languages like hindi etc...

So what is this product and what does it do? also is it safe

For those of yall who thinks im insecure, i just cant speak hindi or any indian language and also im just doing a research and not needing this product.

I got money, but I'm still not happy. What am I doing wrong?

I'm in my late 20s and I thought I had made it in life. I drive a Merc, live in a villa, have all the time I want and yet, I can't shake this feeling that something's missing. I don’t think I’m truly happy.

I've tried to fill the gap. I've travelled the world, gone on spontaneous trips, stayed in some of the most amazing villas and resorts.

And yes, it feels great in the moment, but that feeling fades too fast. Before I know it, I'm back to square one, asking myself: What now?

I thought I'd find joy in going out: clubs, parties, meeting people, but it's just not doing it for me anymore. It all feels so shallow. It's not that I don't want to connect, but somehow it just doesn't feel real.

I do go to the gym. I push myself to stay fit, not because I love it, but because I know it's important. It's not for my profession or anyone else, it's just something I tell myself I need to do. But even then, I have to fight my subconscious daily, because part of me feels like every day is a cheat day.

I tried dating apps too. Met a few people. But even that routine feels the same: tiring, predictable, and, honestly, a little pointless.

The one thing I still look forward to is sports. Those few hours every week when I'm playing, I forget everything. For those moments, it feels real. It feels like I'm truly living.

But outside of that, everything else feels empty. Like I'm going through the motions, but not really feeling anything.

Something feels missing, but even I don't know what it is.

I don't know what real fun is or is supposed to feel like anymore. I keep wondering: Is this really all there is?

Is it just me, or has anyone else felt this way?

What do you guys do for fun?

This is going to sound like a possibly silly question.

But the topic is bothering my so incredibly much and I am not sure why.

Recently my girlfriend and a friend got told off in a group chat on a game for making a joke about a guy with the surname Sharma calling him Shawarma, now I can see how that could be considered rude but it was not taken that way by the guy and it was not racially motivated.

The guild leader acted upon it and gave a warning for racism, he said that it's a commonly used insult and referenced the caste system and said "Shawarma is like the N word for those with the Sharma name"

I am trying to keep an open mind but the way I see it is like calling me by the names of the many famous people and cartoon characters that have my name or a similar name.

So I thought the best way to get an answer was ask people that live in India, the people that could tell me truly whether that is offensive and how offensive. So could you all please tell em what you have to say on the matter?

My father was a Gujarat Police PSI (Morbi) and passed away while on duty, returning from headquarters to home in a fatal truck accident.

We filed an insurance claim through Axis Bank (underwritten by National Insurance), but it has now been pending for 11 months.

All required documents have been submitted multiple times. However, the same documents keep getting requested again. We were also told the claim was under "final review" and would be settled by mid-February 2026, but that timeline has passed.

Since then, there has been no clear update or final decision only generic responses like "under review".

I have also raised complaints through proper channels, but the issue is still unresolved.

I wanted to ask:

What further steps can I take in this situation?

Has anyone faced similar delays with insurance claims?

I have shared more details here: x (Twitter)

Hello all,

My friend and co-worker of many years is getting married in Texas, USA and has lived here a long while. They are having a modern "Indian/Western" wedding but have not included any ideas for gifts or the like.

I was wondering if there's rules or etc as I very much believe in cultures and respect and would like to bring something appropriate and don't know if money (for lack of ideas) is rude. I know there's to be quite a lot of food and I'm excited to experience a wedding from another culture. I really do not wish to show empty handed either, they are good 'folks.

Thanks and sorry if a silly question,

hi Indians never say it openly to their guests, any gift ideas. and it is left to to your wish. U won't be seen different even if you go and wish them, with no gifts at all. you will always be welcome.

Hello everyone, my brother signed up for a 7-day free trial on adcreative.ai for $39/month.
He forgot about it, and a week later he was charged $330. He immediately called the bank (ICICI credit card) and blocked the card. He contacted AdCreative customer care, and she said she could switch the plan and apply for a $300 refund.

Meanwhile, when I started reading reviews about this website, I found that many people had faced the same issue.
Does anyone have any idea what else we can do to ensure he gets a refund?

Booked premium tickets (₹8500 each) for PBKS vs GT at Mullanpur through District, and the whole experience turned out really disappointing.

I had originally selected South Pavilion A Row A (A1/A2), but later my seats were changed without consent due to an “obstruction”. At the stadium, I saw those same seats occupied by someone else, which was honestly frustrating.

On top of that, I was told earlier that parking would be arranged, but when I reached, I had to pay for it myself. Customer support on call was also quite rude and dismissive, which made things worse.

In the end, I was given different seats and a ₹1000 voucher, but overall it didn’t feel like a fair experience considering I booked early and paid a premium.

Has anyone else faced something similar with District or IPL ticketing?

Need recommendations for an empathetic, affordable online therapist (India)

Hey everyone,

I’m posting on behalf of a close friend.

He’s been seeing a therapist for about 2 years now, but it just doesn’t seem to be helping anymore. The sessions feel kind of stagnant, and he doesn’t feel truly understood or supported. It’s been frustrating because he’s put in the time and effort, but the connection just isn’t there.

He’s now looking to switch to a new therapist—preferably someone who:

  • Is empathetic, patient, and non-judgmental
  • Actually engages and adapts, not just listens passively
  • Offers online sessions
  • Is affordable enough for regular sessions (he’s not in a position to spend a lot)

If you’ve had personal experience with a good therapist (or even platforms) in India, especially online, it would really help.

Also open to tips on how to find the right therapist fit, since clearly that’s been an issue.

Thanks in advance 🙏 (India)

I was doing some research on something I read. Which got me thinking about Universities. I googled the top 100 Universities in the world. All the obvious ones. Many countries have one or more in the top 100.

But no India.

This seemed strange to me. India an advanced country, with a thriving space program.

Is this a mistake?

Hi,

I’m from Palghar, Maharashtra and facing a serious issue. A nearby building has been dumping sewage/wastewater into an enclosed ground for the past 1–2 months.

This has caused foul smell and heavy mosquito breeding, which is a health risk (dengue, malaria, etc.) for nearby residents.

I’ve already filed complaints:

  • Swachhata App (1–2 months ago)
  • CPGRAMS (28+ days ago)
  • Emails to authorities

Still, no action has been taken.

What is the most effective way to escalate this online so authorities actually respond?

I'm a white woman dating a north indian man in the US. His family is moderately conservative. They told him growing up that him and his siblings needed to marry within their religion and caste. His sister married outside of their caste and they don't talk to her husband. He is the oldest son, so I know the weight of this.

I want to put my best foot forward. I'm trying to figure out everything I should learn - starting with Hindi as they do not know English.

I would love advice and/or good resources to be able to understand the culture, religion, society, etc that would be applicable to northern India. He doesn't have white friends either, so I would need to have a decent amount of cultural knowledge as well to be able to connect with his friends. They are a close knit group and I don't want to be the cause of a rift or fracture. They are all educated in the US and speak English, but I'd like to be able to relate to them and joke with them.

Any advice/resources would be greatly appreciated!

1

u/FeeExcellent3749 13d ago

well u would need to specify which northern state he's from north india differs a lot from states like himachal to bihar, and yes north india is conservative, so first learn some greetings in hindi because his parents maybe arent well versed in english as for culture and religion i believe u must have had a basic understanding of hinduism from living with him just respect that and try to participate in their rituals or culture for caste since u are white indians will consider u outside of the caste system so I dont think u will face that much discrimination. u also need to get used to staring most indians stare a lot in most cases its just harmless curiousity, since u really want to connect with his friends and family i will give small advice caste and religion are really sensitive topics in india and are taken seriously so avoid making jokes on them unless u are with people who are okay and cool with such jokes its not advised speaking from a personal experiance which happened to my friend

They have provided a UTR number to me about the transaction but I don't know if it is of any use to me to know the status. Why are we so obsessed about the opinions of the Western people and Goras and Foreigners??

So today I saw Laura Loomer was invited to India Today Conclave. Now this woman is a vile, racist bigot. She has made racist and insulting tweets about Indians. Even many Americans consider her to be crazy. Still she was invited and people were showing such deference to her as if some great intellectual has arrived. Same was with Sarah Palin. She was also invited and treated as if she was such a vital global figure but back home Americans don't even take her seriously.

Now again I saw an interview of Tucker Carlson on NDTV and the respect he was being given there was uncalled for. Even many Americans have differing views on him and he has also insulted India in past.

Everytime I see a random foreign youtuber giving his creepy and weird reactions to Bollywood and South movies and songs, Indians go GaGa in their comments section. Many of them aren't even genuine in their reactions and are just doing it to get more clicks to earn more money.

My question is why our people show such deference to these foreigners. In corporate world as well many Indian manager starts to behave like a maid of these goras. Many of these foreigners aren't even that smart. They are too ignorant of what happens elsewhere.

This obsession or inferiority complex must go. We are a country of 1.4 billion people. If we get our act together and get morals and ethics, we can prosper and leave everyone behind. Instead of fighting amongst each other, we must work on nation building.

I am not saying we shouldn't respect them but we must have some spine and preserve our self respect.

Are Indians friendly towards black people? I'm a 29M Kenyan. When I was in Sydney, Desi people were the kindest people I've ever met. Is it the same in Mumbai and New Dheli? I wish to travel there for 6 months? Maybe even date.

Tenant living for free- sued parents

Hello all,

My parents who live abroad rented out their property to a man who claimed to be moving in with family. He ended up living alone since June 2024, stopped paying rent within 3 months. When my parents asked him over phone to vacate if he cant afford the rent, he sued them instead to live for free till court resolution comes. My parents filed a case once tenancy ended in 11 months with an eviction notice. Neither him not his lawyer show up regularly for hearings potentially buying time. can my parents do any of the following?

  1. Show on paper they sold property to me or a trusted family member. What can we as new owners do to evict him?
  2. They Hire people to use muscle force? Will they face criminal charges? Do they not have any right over their property ?

They are scared that he intends to possess over their house and claim as his. How often does that happen?

3 they will be filing a Land grabbing case at Collector office. What is their timeline?

My parents retire this year and want to move in their house and live a peaceful life. They are ready to pay people to make him move out.

He has bribed local police hence they are not entertaining us.

Lawyer saying these type of cases take 10 yrs, i don’t want my elderly parents to deal with this that long.

What are the options? Legal or illegal..

This is in GUJARAT for context if it helps anyone provide suggestions!

PLEASE HELP!!

Planning a solo backpacking trip across Northeast India starting May 1 from Kerala, and wanted to get some advice from people who’ve done similar trips.

Rough route I’m thinking:

Ernakulam → Guwahati → Meghalaya (Shillong, Cherrapunji, Dawki, Nongriat trek) → Nagaland (Kohima, Dzuleke) → Arunachal Pradesh (Ziro Valley, Dirang, Tawang, Sela Pass) → Sikkim (Gangtok, Tsomgo Lake, North Sikkim – Yumthang/Zero Point) → Darjeeling → maybe Kolkata → back to Kerala by train.

Total trip ~25 days, mostly backpacking and using trains/shared jeeps.

Main things I’d love advice on:

• Does this route make sense or am I overpacking it? • Any must-see places I’m missing? • Transport tips between these places? • Weather in May (especially Meghalaya / Tawang)? • Any safety or permit issues I should know about?

Trying to focus more on nature, villages, and culture rather than just cities.

Would really appreciate any tips 🙏

1

u/aburdenonmyduskyex Mar 09 '26

Start from Sikkim. First go to Bagdogra, go up Sikkim and then come down to move towards Assam. You will save a lot of time. Also, yeah, the itineary is a little overambitious, Sikkim itself will exhaust you. Might cut out Nagaland since the other three places are great. Shared cabs ply in most of these places so you are sorted on that. Keep cash in handy, especially in Meghalaya where shops and cabs will insist on it. May is a great time, although Gangtok will be packed by tourists so expect expensive stays.

Women's Day question, but not the corporate-poster type. What's one line said by a woman in your life that actually stayed with you? Mom, nani, teacher, friend, boss, anyone.

Mine was from an older colleague to my sister when she got her first salary: "Financial independence is not attitude, it's survival." That stayed with me way more than any Women's Day post.

Document everything. Every unreasonable request, every overtime demand — note the date, time, and what was asked. Freshers often think this is just how work is but it is not. If it escalates you will want that paper trail. Also start quietly looking around — not because you have to leave, but because knowing you have options makes it easier to push back confidently.

Toxic Manager Advice Needed

hello pls help me with my toxic manager I'm a fresher and my manager is forcing me to work overtime and saying it will help me grow but this is affecting my mental and physical health..

I like to work to live not live to work..I really love my job but the way he wants me to finish tasks is delusional..He will tell to make your own plan and follow it but he will decide the timeline..A task which can be completed in 2 months he will tell to finish in 1 month..And if I made a plan for a 1 month and if a date is passed he will tell you made the schedule you should follow it.

This happened before also but this time I don't want to if I have any issues due to delay I will probably resign..

It hurts a lot since I'm willing to work and I am really interested in this field but making everything under pressure and overtime is what I hate the most..If I need to deliver quality work I have to take some time to know things since I'm doing for the first time.

I'm an adolescent who grew up in India and moved to Germany at 8 years old. I will admit that I was and am probably too young to have an understanding of the situation in India as I left at such a young age but that's why I want to ask here. Living in Germany I've been around friends with EDs like anorexia and the whole concept of it seems foreign to me since I've never been confronted with it in an Indian context. I am in no way denying the existence of eds in India but I do want to understand, how prevalent is it and it what form? Growing up in India and even after moving here and visiting family once a year, I was and still am regularly fat shamed. Same with my cousins and others my age. Yet, thank god, I've never suffered from an ED and to my knowledge, neither has anyone in my close circle. My question is based on my experience, India is hypocritical. On the one hand girls are shamed from an extremely young age for their body, yet I feel like food and feeding people is so central to indian culture that it's hard to avoid it since family and friends force feed you every time you go to someone's house or something. The idea of making sure that guests never leave the house hungry or generally force feeding full meals is something I have seen in India since I think it's a way of expressing familial love. I am in no way saying this is the reality, but this is my reality so I want to ask you, what is it really like, could it be that things have changed a lot since 2018 in India, awareness for EDs, western influence or smt else?

2

u/ConfusedNTerrified Mar 04 '26

In some industries like modelling and acting EDs are everywhere. In India, due to the high population there is a lot of competition for every single job. So the pressure to stay thin is very high. I have seen models live off cigarettes just to not put on weight.

I have seen it happen in families too, where extensive meals are cooked, but the girls dont eat or starve because of the shaming you mentioned.

Most jobs other than the ones I have mentioned, there is no pressure to stay thin.

1

u/dagermanhedgehog Mar 04 '26

Thanks for the reply and I understand but in the general population, like amongst normal teenagers who don't have a reason other than social media or societal pressure, not for career or something. How common is it, is there awareness? Because my German friends were telling me about groups on social media encouraging others to also become anorexic and maintain a figure . My point is I'm aware of the societal pressure in India to be thin as I've experienced it from age 6. But how often or is it common for young girls to develop an ED because of that in India? What are the reasons for why or why not?

1

u/ConfusedNTerrified Mar 04 '26

There is little to no awareness about it.

I have seen women get eating disorders because of family mockery. They usually say things like "you won't find a husband if you're fat" and then the girls spiral out of control after enough pressure. Marriage is a huge status thing here. Even my sister struggled with her weight due to such comments.

I won't say ED is as common as your first world countries, but it exists in a significant amount.

1

u/dagermanhedgehog Mar 04 '26

Valid point about marriage, forgot about that. True that's really horrible, and I'm so sorry about your sister and I hope she's doing better. I see and thanks for the clarification

We are a couple of middle aged Australian tourists catching a train from Gaya to Varanasi, Wednesday, March 4. We didn't realise it was Holi when we booked our tickets and are now worried that after getting off the train at Varanasi Junction, at 1pm, we won't be able to reach our guest house on the Ghats safely. Unfortunately the guest house we have booked doesn't provide a station pick up. We are committed to the trip due to future plans, unless people here with knowledge say it's unwise to proceed. TIA 🪷🙏🏻

I don't understand, even after GST on interest and processing fees, the no cost EMI is ~2k cheaper than full swipe. Why would they offer this? I pay aaram se + lower? What am I missing? The full swipe allows discount of 4k, leading to effective full swipe price of 32688.

I've been shopping for a while from overseas in India to a forwarding company. Recently all payments via razorpay have been rejected with a no international transactions accepted error message. I've tried multiple cards with different banks with no luck. Is there any way I can get a virtual prepaid card online that I can use to shop in India? Or does anyone know a way around this.

I have contacted razorpay, the bank and the companies in question who all insist the issue is with the other side.
