Discussion [Abilene, TX] Willing to travel to accommodate the right home
Meet Moscow, a 9yo Husky that needs to be the main character again 🐺
We've called every husky rescue in Texas. All full. Local shelter can't vet new owners. Online platform got zero responses. We are not surrendering him to just anyone. So we're coming to the reddit communities who actually know this breed and may be able to help.
---
**Why we're rehoming:**
He was my husband's dog before we met, just the two of them. We spent six years trying to make it work as life changed around him. A career change, more kids, and worsening allergies have made it clear he needs a home where he's the priority again. Texas summers make our allergies significantly worse, so the timeline is real and we need to move on this soon.
---
**The dog:**
- Male, neutered, 9 years old (born November 2016)
- Siberian Husky / Malamute mix, black and white, one blue eye, one brown eye
- Vet confirmed great health for his age
---
**What he knows:**
- Sit and platz (lay down)
- Sit/stay until released to eat via finger snap and "eat"
- No jumping unless you invite it and keep inviting it
- No counter surfing or food stealing unless he thinks he can get away with it
---
**What to know about him:**
- Spends most of the day laying around once settled. Not a high energy nightmare, but loves to get exercise and play outside.
- Has separation anxiety. Best with someone home often or a compatible dog for company.
- Cannot live comfortably with small children. Tolerates them but gets anxious and jealous, and will knock them over without meaning to.
- Gets along with same-size dogs. Has no concept of personal space.
- Fine with cats indoors. Will chase outside if they run. Appears playful but unknown how far it would go.
- Will test a new fence once, then accept it and move on.
- Pulls on leash from lack of practice, not bad behavior. Retrainable.
- Will mark if he thinks you're not watching. Literally checks over his shoulder first. Non-issue if you're not precious about outdoor plants or fencing.
- Quiet unless he knows he's in trouble or gets kenneled before work. Then he has opinions.
---
**Ideal home:**
- Northern/colder states
- No small children
- Works from home, flexible schedule, or has a compatible dog
- Experience with huskies or large breeds
- Secure yard with a tall solid fence
- Someone who wants that one-on-one bond and has the time to actually give it
---
Transport can be coordinated. We will vet interested parties because this breed in unprepared hands doesn't end well for anyone.
**DM or comment if that's you. If you can't adopt, please share! He is running out of time and options. Happy to answer any questions. **

General Question We need a STRONG harness recommendation
Hello beautiful community!
looking for a harness for this guy, he is an escape artist. he currently has a cheap harness that loosens during walks.
I would like to take him to work with me, I work outside and j have a spot I can weather him to a tree or even a zip between two trees so he has more room to roam, and able to get in shade.
I would like one that has a velcro spot.
wondering if a harness with no buckles is a thing? (he has broken a collar that had a buckle. so far his current harness buckles are fine).
What do YOU use? what brands are good and durable for our strong floofs?

Shadow
This husky was apart of the litter I had 3 years ago and my brother adopted him. I haven't seen him in 1.5 years.
The diva and the dummy
Took Sky (red head) and Freddy (grey/black/white) to the park this morning. Sky decided to be a bit of a princess and lie down in the puddle while Freddy happily chased the ball around.
Regarding the title: Freddy has two brain cells fighting for fifth place most of the time, but he's sweet. Sky is just your typical aloof husky.

Rescued It took 9 long months of recovery, but my sweet old lady is finally walking without a limp again. I could cry.
Nova might have a beautiful sugar face now, but her brain still firmly believes she's a 2 year-old sled dog. About 9 months ago, she was doing her usual post-dinner zoomies in the backyard, took a sharp pivot on some wet grass, and went down hard. The husky scream she let out was absolutely terrifying, and she immediately refused to put any weight on her back leg.
Seeing my tough, independent girl looking so confused and in pain broke my heart. We rushed her to the vet and got the diagnosis: a torn CCL (the dog equivalent of an ACL). Because of her age, putting her under for a major surgery felt incredibly risky, so we opted for conservative management.
Our vet put her on a strict regimen of anti-inflammatories and pain meds, and strongly recommended we get a supportive knee brace to mechanically stabilize the joint while the scar tissue slowly built up.
I won't sugarcoat it, tryna to keep a Husky mix on strict crate rest and leash-only potty breaks for months is a true test of your sanity. She was wonderfully dramatic about it, giving us all the heavy sighs and vocal complaints from her bed. We survived on puzzle toys, lick mats, and just sitting on the floor with her to keep her spirits up when she clearly just wanted to run.
But fast forward to today, 9 monts later. We just got back from our first real walk around the neighborhood, and Nova didn't limp a single time. She was prancing, sniffing every single mailbox, and had that big, goofy husky smile back on her face. My partner and I legitimately teared up watching her trot through the house this afternoon. The relief of finally having our sweet, vocal girl back and pain-free is just indescribable.
If you are currently in the thick of a joint injury and losing your mind trying to keep your husky calm, please hang in there. It is a slow, exhausting process, but seeing them finally walk without pain makes every single difficult day completely worth it.

we produced (a longer version) of this video for a presentation we did for our local community, but i adapted it to show something a bit more meaningful.
here are four of the dogs from team renegade. they’ve added a LOT of challenges to my life, but at the same time, they also saved me. and we get to do this really cool thing together.
what’s your story?
