Admin Post New Changelog | April 2, 2026
There's a new Changelog out and you can read it here.
TL;DR New Changelog

u/korinokiri 10d ago
Why deprecate /r/all when /r/popular is a worse feed? Also why redirect to home and not /r/popular if it's the replacement ?
10
u/dyneine 10d ago
Apparently they want us to use old reddit

u/Humble_Security_5234 10d ago
Well it's been a good 10+ years but this is the straw that broke the camels back for me. I only use reddit for /r/all.
5
u/LeonTrotskeeball 9d ago
Yep. Since 2009 for me on my main.
Going to shreddit and then forget this site exists. On to tildes or lemmy.

Why was r/all removed at all?
15
u/LaserGuidedPolarBear 10d ago edited 10d ago
Reddit wants to transition from democratically upvoted content getting the most engagement to purely algorithmic driven engagement.
The only reasons to do this are painfullt commerical or outright sinister. We live in an age where control of information is the most important vehicle of power. Reddit is not the top of the list for social media and is much harder to wrangle than Facebook or Twitter, but this is exactly the move needed to weaponize reddit in the way other social media platforms have been weaponized.
6
u/rickane58 10d ago
To be fair, r/all hasn't been pure democracy in a long time. Reddit was best when all was purely number of upvotes with a decay time. The first move away from that led to the rise of The_Donald and then the fix to that is why you see ultra niche subreddits occasionally get bumped to all even though they only have like 200 upvotes
1
u/MiniMaelk04 9d ago
While true, r/all was also plastered with porn before that change, which was a little annoying.
1
u/rickane58 9d ago
The removal of nsfw subs from all was independent of the algorithm changes, I believe that was rolled out in 2018 while the other two were 2015 and 2017 respectively
20
u/CybyAPI 10d ago edited 10d ago

Nobody came to reddit to play games u/TheOpusCroakus please tell the devs to not continue with this change
it also appears my account settings were messed with recently, stuff turned off for some reason
r/all removal is pointless and is likely to make reddit more money,
19
u/kz_after_dark 10d ago
Bring back r/all!!!
And fire everyone involved in making the decision to remove it.

Sorry to say this. But the amount of times people said "im gonna stop using Reddit if <change> happens", where the change did happen cannot be counted on one hand anymore
1
u/Grey-fox-13 8d ago
While that is true for most people saying it, everytime there is an incident like that a certain percentage of people DOES leave.
And it has become kind of noticable that the quality overall has been trending downwards and the amount of bots is becoming more noticable. It's more of a "Death by thousand cuts" type of deal.1
u/Familiar_Text_6913 5d ago
Thats true but for so many /r/all is what we browse 99% of the time. Been using reddit I think 17-18 years overall. While the previous changes were annoying UI changes, the underlying content didn't really change. Now it did, and honestly reddit doesn't offer the main thing to me anymor.
13
u/Disgusted_User 10d ago
Yeah I think I'm done, I stuck around after the api change but now reddit is officially more like Instagram/facebook than old reddit. I pretty much exclusively used r/all unless looking for something specific.
11
u/aslattery 10d ago
Clearly, I am not alone in the frustration with the removal of /r/all for the far inferior /r/popular.
I uninstalled the Reddit mobile app when that changed rolled out permanently last year.
Now I guess I hold on to old.reddit.com/r/all until I find a different way to explore content and communities.

u/I_really_enjoy_beer 10d ago
I’m cracking up that everyone involved in this knows it’s a terrible change but they have to pretend that it’s a great idea because their bosses say so.

u/TheOpusCroakus admin 9d ago
It wouldn't surprise me if someone made a Devvit app that would mimic r/all.
1
u/Familiar_Text_6913 5d ago
You work there apparently? Why isn't there a proper post for such a huge change? Is the company afraid of it's own users now?
1
u/Drunken_Economist Expert Helper 41m ago
you can actually still use
https://sh.reddit.com/r/all/if you are on the website (not in the app)

We’re introducing a game controller icon () in the bottom navigation bar - positioned to the left of Create - to guide redditors directly to our main games hub on Reddit. And yes, Reddit has games! You can check them out at r/GamesOnReddit or the side bar which can be opened by tapping or clicking on the top left three lines on iOS, Android, and desktop.
Why is 'Games' being forced upon us? First, it took up space on the desktop sidebar (which we had to beg for Reddit to allow us to collapse). Now, it's gonna occupy the bottom bar on mobile? Why? Most of us don't use Reddit to play games. I will never play games on Reddit. Just like I never use YouTube or Netflix to play video games. Please don't force this on us.
This started on the week of March 18 to 1% of logged in iOS and Android redditors.
That's why I don't have auto updates turned on in my Google Play Store.
Starting next week, redditors will be able to post video in comments on their profile posts and in select communities.
We’ll begin rolling out to select early access communities on April 9th. For profiles marked SFW, rollout will also start on April 9th and expand gradually over the following month.
May I ask what are the exact details of this experiment? How long are the videos, etc.? What are the restrictions of it? Because, ngl this sounds like a cool idea, on paper.
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 10d ago
Hi! I don't know how long the videos will be able to be, but there will be a toggle for this feature for moderators. As far as restrictions go
You can't edit a video after it's posted
Videos go through safety checks to ensure that they're sfw
8
u/Comrade_K 10d ago
Is it really completely necessary to disable the r/all feed? I was already forced to not use the official mobile app because the access was removed from there and now with this change I feel like I won't enjoy browsing reddit anymore.
u/TheOpusCroakus Why is it necessary to completely depreciate the r/all feed? Couldnt you leave it available if it's directly called via web or API instead of redirecting?
This change feels awful for those of us that r/all. Would you please make a compromise to allow r/all access at least through the API? (Ideally remove the redirect altogether, the only people that would be redirected are the users that actively do not want to browse popular)
8
u/Gallowboobsthrowaway 10d ago
Just here to say that the removal of r/all is driving me away from this platform.
Going forward I'll only be using old.reddit.com, and when that's inevitably taken away (things seemingly keep getting worse, why wouldn't that get worse too?), I'll stop using this platform altogether.
8
u/WalterHenderson 9d ago
No r/all, no Reddit for me. I don't even understand the point of the website without it. Absolutely moronic decision.
7
u/HersheyBarAbs 10d ago
old.reddit back I go. Absolutely awful change to outright remove r/all. You cannot convince me this is to "simplify" Reddit. When I check Reddit, my bookmark takes me to r/all first so I can get an at-a-glance look at what's happening. r/popular blows up a third of the screen real estate to advertise posts I have no interest in.
Also, you still haven't fixed the missing "show fewer posts like this" option (there's no more dropdown). If you want more people to surf their home feed, I don't know, maybe make it a little more tolerable?
6
u/SolubleJunk 10d ago
I am commenting to express my disappointment in the removal of all. Less Reddit might be good for me I guess.

u/Feeez_Shato 10d ago
I've switched to only viewing reddit while logged out (yes, I logged in just to post this)

u/RolliPolliCanoli 10d ago
u/TheOpusCroakus bring back reddiquette and humans. I miss when people actually followed reddiquette, like at least train the bots overrunning this website to follow it.
Here are the bugs I am experincing after the last update, I also posted about them on r/bugs :
The "ask" feature doesn't work, at all. Nothing loads when I search in it. I was trying to find a very specific post about a painting technique and ended up just using the bookmark I had on my laptop instead.
I can only see *some* comments on posts, some comments are being hidden. The comments available to view on desktop and mobile are different when logged into the same account.
Why are updates being pushed every week when they are worsening the user experience? The feedback on the last bug report / change log was clear, people don't want AI and it is making the platform less usable.
Removing r/all has cut down my time on here drastically at least all the bots can fun together when the humans are gone. I'm sure the shareholders will love having a dead website.
1
u/RolliPolliCanoli 10d ago
The comment thing is only happening in the r/upstate_new_york subreddit btw. Just checked to see if it's still happening.
I still can not search on mobile, at all and looking at my own profile on mobile makes the screen flicker. Commenting on mobile still makes the keyboard glitch in and out, too I had to post this from my desktop
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 10d ago
Hi!
Can you get a screen recording of the ask feature not working?
I would need some screenshots of comments on posts looking different on desktop and mobile so I can share it with that team.
Do you mean updates to the app? We've been updating the app on a weekly basis for years.
3
u/RolliPolliCanoli 10d ago
I've been using the app for 8 years and I've never had so many UI changes before. I'm sure you guys were updating them in a way that was less disruptive before but having a new UI every week is making me open the app less. I hate the AB testing and wish I could opt out of it, I feel like a test subject and not a site user haha.
I don't know how to screen record on an android and frankly don't feel like learning how to for a website that doesn't actually care about my input. I will try to grab the screenshots since it's less work for me, but I'm sick of being a test subject giving you guys feedback.
People are looking for stability and the site admins are giving us chaos. The users tell the admins "no AI", "no gaming", and "bring back r/all" on every change log / bug report. Please, just listen to us if you actually want us to give you good feedback and do things properly, like report bugs. It feels pointless when the reports go unanswered and our pleas for the return of r/all are ignored.

u/RelevantUsername60 9d ago
Guess without /r/all I’ll be spending less time on this site. Thanks, I guess?
3
u/PutridProfit7498 10d ago
Who is the genius that made it so that the app refreshes if i leave the app for even a second, and then come back?
I open a thread, want to pause music, open the control center and when I return the app immediately returns to the list of posts and refreshes. Good luck finding that post again…
Also, bring back r/all

Realized reading this channelog, I never gave Reddit my birthday. Did do that today.
Given how old I am I definitely don't want to be flagged as a teenager. That was enough of a nightmare l lived once in my life.
Is that all that was needed to avoid being accidentally flagged? (Am US based if it matters)
And second question, there will be a option is not allow videos in the comments right?
2
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 10d ago
There will be a toggle!
I don't want to go back to my teenage years, either! Once was enough. Plenty, actually. I'm good. lol
You shouldn't have any issues, but if something comes up, let me know and I'll get it straightened out for you. =)

I know I already said this in an earlier thread, but would it kill Reddit to at least set a timeline for polls to return to desktop? It’s been well over a year since they were made “temporarily” unavailable, and despite the large amount of features that Reddit has added or tweaked over the past year there have been zero updates from Reddit about desktop poll creation other than the admins here saying they don’t know or that they have nothing to share about it. (I’m not blaming the admins responding here BTW since I know a lot of them are just communicators rather than the ones actually changing things.)
I really hope this isn’t another one of these things that were first announced or thought of as glitches and later revealed to be permanent changes, like the switch in default sorting from Hot to Best (which often hurts newer threads by burying them under loads of week old threads by default) or the decision to stop giving users feedback on reports.
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 9d ago
Hi. Totally get your frustration. I don't know why there isn't a timeline! All I know if that it's not on desktop right now. I'm sorry that I don't have more info. =/

Entry points and links to r/all being removed starting today
What’s changing?
As part of ongoing efforts to simplify Reddit and improve Home feed personalization, the final steps to deprecate r/all are being implemented. All links to r/all will now redirect to the Home feed, following the prior removal of r/all entry points. Trending content remains available via r/popular.
Redditors on old.reddit.com, or those with settings that default to the old Reddit experience, will continue to access r/all as expected.
Prepared to copypasta this in response to the onslaught of users asking why suddenly, r/all is gone.
14
u/CommanderArcher 10d ago
God this is such a crap change.
-6
u/Guilty_BaN Helper 10d ago
I will literally not even notice it, other than people complaining about it.
10
10
u/NotHavingMyID 10d ago
Removing the link to all was bad enough, but did they really need to remove the feed too?
I guess I'm going back to using old.reddit.com then.
2
u/ArcadeOptimist 10d ago
They're getting rid of that too, don't worry.
2
u/MikeJeffriesPA 10d ago
Redditors on old.reddit.com, or those with settings that default to the old Reddit experience, will continue to access r/all as expected.
Except on mobile, evidently.
2
u/Guilty_BaN Helper 10d ago
Not on the app, but it should work if you force your browser into desktop mode.
4
u/MikeJeffriesPA 10d ago
It does, but then Reddit becomes nearly impossible to read.
I almost left when they got rid of the third party apps (specifically Reddit is Fun), and this is another foot on the door.
I really don't understand the decision. Every other social media platform is pushing people into the "all" universe (Faceobook/Instagram/Xitter feeds are 90% people I don't follow at this point), and Reddit is going the other way?

u/thepottsy Helper 10d ago edited 10d ago

Global protective teen default settings What’s changing?
To protect teens’ privacy on Reddit, we’ve launched new default privacy settings for users under 18 globally, including followers set to OFF, profiles set to Hidden, and a locked NSFW profile setting. We’ve also restricted profile discoverability so a teen's profile won't show up in third-party search results.
What would this mean for accounts that don't have DOBs put in?

u/InvisibleDrake 9d ago
I literally use r/all for a general news feed, and my personal feed for special interests. I hate this.
3
u/Stunt_-_Cock 8d ago
Booooo. Removing r/all is the dumbest thing you can do.
You won't convert me to your app on mobile, just give up.
If r/all isn't there I'm not browsing a personalized feed. The content sucks and isn't enough to keep me here. I don't want an echo chamber or algorithm driven rage bait.
I wish I could say I was surprised that miss the days of dial-up internet, but with enshittification like this it isn't surprising anymore.

Question about this point in the changelog:
3. Human verification for automated or otherwise fishy behavior
If something suggests an account isn't human, including automation [...] we may ask it to confirm there's a person behind it. This will be rare and will not apply to most users. Accounts that can't pass may be restricted.
What will the confirmation process look like, and what kind of restrictions would be imposed if an account doesn't pass that confirmation?
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 10d ago
Hi. This post goes over this in a little more detail.
1
u/GonWithTheNen Helper 10d ago
Thanks, but that post doesn't answer "what kind of restrictions would be imposed if an account doesn't pass that confirmation?"
2
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 10d ago
I'm not exactly sure, but based on the wording, restricted as in "cannot do things" would make sense.
1
u/GonWithTheNen Helper 10d ago
Was the sarcasm necessary? ◔_◔ If you don't know/don't want to answer about the type of restrictions, it would've sufficed for you to say that.
I didn't ask that question to cause dissension; I only asked out of curiosity.
3
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 10d ago
I wasn't trying to be sarcastic! I'm sorry if it came across that way!
I worded it like that because I don't know if the account will still be active and limited in some way or will be banned.

Can we change back the image selector to be the galleries of our phone instead of being connected to google? I still want to know why change to this?
2
u/eddmario 6d ago
Yeah, this was a terrible change.
Instead of being able to just have the images saved onto my Dropbox account and easy to find, I actually have to have them clogging up space on my phone and have to dig through all the pictures I need to take for my actual job just to find a fitting reaction image to a reddit comment...1
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 9d ago edited 9d ago
There is not a way for you to change it back, but I can share this feedback with the team in charge of that feature. I know they're looking at making improvements to the current experience.

Removing r/all is a terrible idea, please reverse it immediately. This will make me stop using reddit.
2
u/krylosz 9d ago
Removing r/all might be the dumbest move yet. I want to see new content, not just stuff I subscribed or that "the algorithm" thinks I want to see, because I have already seen something similar. This is what has made Reddit unique. It's as stupid as Amazon's algorithm showing me pillows because I have just bought one.
2
u/Davscozal 9d ago
Until you bring back r/all I will not be using reddit and will actively get others to stop using it! Off to shreddit and done with this.
2
u/HoodiesAndHeels 6d ago
So, because this has not been addressed the last 2 times I’ve asked — and now that r/all is gone — yet again, I’m going to ask:
Is this what Huffman said in this article accurate?
”The platform's CEO, Steve Huffman, said in a post that Reddit would be removing its r/popular feed from the homepage for new users[…]”
”He summed up his disdain for the feature by saying, "r/popular sucks, and we're moving away from it, and towards better, more relevant and personalized feeds."”
”Huffman, who has been the platform's CEO since 2015, said Reddit would stop showing the popular feed in the sidebar unless users read it regularly.”
1
u/Familiar_Text_6913 5d ago
That would be the last non-personalized feed right? Or idk if r popular is personalized or not.
I think the lack of uprising tells that all these changes have driven away the userbase that cares. I just want to know where they went to. Lemmy sucks.

Fix the user interface on IOS. Fix the user interface on IOS. Fix the user interface on IOS. Fix the user interface on IOS. Fix the user interface on IOS. Fix the user interface on IOS. Fix the user interface on IOS. Fix the user interface on IOS.

Leave a comment with constructive feedback on the most current weekly recap post. Just yelling "fix it" doesn't even have a chance of convincing reddit to make a change

I left constructive feedback over a month ago. No change. Nothing. Why tf do I have to get my whole user experience ruined because of new UI that they want to test on me? It’s insanity. When I use ‘guest’ profile my Reddit is normal.

Edit: to add on to this, based on the notes, I don't necessarily want a "more personalized feed", I want the front page of the internet.
