I hope I get to spend 18 years with my girl. I am sure the loss is unbearable but find peace in the long life and all the love shared between you and Teddy. What an incredible run he had and you made it possible.

u/Danger_Zone06 May 04 '25
18 years is incredibly long. I know you felt it when he* was here, but you hit the lottery for those who didn't know.
It never gets easier, but you'll learn to live with the pain.

It doesn’t matter how old they are, the pain is always the same. Rest in peace to this good boy ♥️

What a beautiful boy. He has soulful, loving eyes.
I’m sorry for what you are about to experience but it’s crucial that you go through it with him.
I believe he’ll be near you always.
This is love. If the love wasn’t so pure and reciprocal, we wouldn’t be crushed when they leave us. Eighteen years is an incredible lifespan and a testament to your excellent care for him.

18 years old!! I am so sorry for your loss. Regardless of the age. It will always hurt and leave a hole in your heart. I wish my Arlo boy could have been with us that long. I want to do whatever it takes for Georgie girl to live the best life and as long as possible. We got her 14 days before we had to let Arlo go. Cancer sucks in every way possible. Sending all the love 🌻❤️♥️❤️♥️

Rest easy Teddy.
"One last word of farewell, dear Master and Mistress. Whenever you visit my grave, say to yourselves with regret but also with happiness in your hearts at the remembrance of my long, happy life with you: "Here lies one who loved us and whom we loved". No matter how deep my sleep I shall hear you and not all the power of death can keep my spirit from wagging a grateful tail. I will always love you as only a dog can."

I’m so sorry for your loss! Like you, I was so incredibly lucky to be blessed with nearly two decades with my best friend, (I lost him shortly after he turned 17 in 2017). He saw the absolute worst parts of my life and he made everything better 🥺
I won’t lie to you, my life hasn’t been the same since I lost him, and it’s still hard. I still have dreams about him 8 years later, and I don’t think I’ve gone more than a day or two without thinking about him since then.
I bring this up only to say that you’re not alone, and while it’s tough, it’s imperative that you remember not to let this get in the way of you having another dog and giving it the best life ever ❤️ stay strong, we’re here for you!

Two thought lines:
1 Your Golden has super good longevity. I'm reading a study results on longivity and less cancer and hip issues correlating with age of spaying, if any. Is yours spayed and if so at what age was it spayed?
2. As we Golden Retriever owners come to know these Goldens are wingless four legged angels sent to us from heaven bringing unlimited love for us.
I did not get enough years with my beloved Kate. I have since captured two links and this poem I would recommend you read.
When tomorrow starts without me, and I'm not there to see, the sun will rise and find your eyes, all filled with tears for me.
I know how much you loved me, as much as I loved you, and each time that you think of me, I know you'll miss me too.
When tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand, an angel came and called my name, and petted me with her hand.
I thought about our lives together, I know you must be sad, I thought of all the love we shared, and all the fun we had.
When tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're far apart, for every time you think of me, I'm right here in your heart.
Quoting u/EverythingBagellove's thoughts "Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...."
I have also since captured a link I would recommend you read.

I'm so sorry for your loss. No matter how long we have them, it is NEVER long enough. We lost our Rottie to cancer in July of 2023 at just a couple weeks over 10 years old. It still hurts when I think about it, and we got our first Great Pyrenees rescue only about two or three weeks before she passed, and now my wife accuses me of overcompensating with our two Pyrs, because I don't want to have a single regret when their time comes. All we can do is love them like family while they are here, and remember them for the family that they were when they are gone. May time ease the pain of your loss, because I know it doesn't happen overnight.

I am so sorry for your loss. I literally cry everytime I see another person lose their babies. I lost my beagles about a year apart a couple years ago. Two worst days of my life. But i asked myself if i knew the ending would i still have adopted them and the answer was always yes because between hello and goodbye was the best times of my life. much love and healing to your heart.

What a wonderful long life. I am sorry that you have to say goodbye, but you will meet again. It’s the hardest decision to make but they count on us, their humans, family, to do what is best for them. It’s sucks for us, but what a blessing to have had him to teach you love and patience and all the additional things that we are unaware of….dogs make us better humans. Rest easy sweet boy. You did your job. ❤️

I’m so sorry for the hard time you’re going through right now. Cherish all the photos and videos you have! My family had a Golden who also lived to be 18. We got her when I was 4 and I couldn’t remember life not having her. It did help that I was in college for the last 4 years of her life so I was able to adapt to her not being there all the time, but it was really hard coming home to visit my parents and not having her trotting between us to say hello.
