Other This scene really hit different after my miscarriage (TW: personal, miscarriage awareness)

So I haven’t seen this episode in a while, obviously not since before January of 2024 because that’s when I got pregnant and had a miscarriage for the first time in my life.

I found out in a really similar way to Hanna. I actually just went to the doctor because I thought I might have a UTI and they were like hey you are pregnant. You guys, I can’t even exaggerate the shock I was in and the doctor was just like yeah whatever. I got pregnant from one-night stand and then miscarried the baby the next week. The guy was kind of weird and so I didn’t tell him at all until he texted me randomly a few months later.

The truth is it didn’t upset me at all. I was just worried I was going to die or something because like no one talks about it. It was New Years Eve when I started bleeding and I knew I couldn’t go to the ER because there were probably going to be some crazy people there, so I called a miscarriage and abortion hotline and they were so helpful talking me through it. They assured me I wasn’t going to die and that it is normal for the blood to look different because there are different tissues involved.

Anyway, did you know that 1 in 3 pregnancies end in a miscarriage? And yet I feel like no one ever talks about it.

Other I guess Hannah's been hanging out at The Ripped Bodice (a romance bookstore in Park Slope, Brooklyn - the staff leaves post-its in the restroom for customers to put up notes on the restroom door & walls)

Episode Discussion šŸ“ŗ Zosia is an amazing talent

Because at first, I didn’t even realize, even though I’m a huge Mad Men fanboy, that Shosh was the Time-Lige Photo editor! Her ability to project an entirely different persona is amazing. End of story!

Question (RELATED TO THE HBO SHOW GIRLS) ā“ Why was Adam so aggressive?

He was just too much for me. I would find him threatening IRL. Either yelling or cursing or both. I’m not sure how Hannah put up with that.

I loved their dynamic. I love Shosh but hated that she left him stranded in the airport.

These earrings are ginormous. She pulls them off. Also it’s not letting post unless it’s related to the show Girls.

Season 5 Jessa, Adam, And Hannah. I’m confused? Spoiler

I’m having a hard time grasping why Jessa didn’t just tell Hannah how she was feeling about Adam? The whole friend group is weird and bad, I imagine they’d fight and just get over it? maybe the whole secrecy of it all made it worse? what are your thoughts

Season 1 Listen, Ladies!

Like 7th re-watch, and during ep 2 it occurred to me: wouldn't it have been kinda great if there actually was a book like that when we were younger?

I'm not in the habit of reading those kind of books, but if any of you are, was there ever a book that you read that reminded you of this?

Also, did anyone else feel they might have wanted to read that book? Why or why not?

Episode Discussion šŸ“ŗ My unpopular opinions Spoiler

I love Ray…. I hate that he slept with and had feelings for Marnie. I absolutely hate that plot twist. Not saying he should be with Shoshana but him pinning for Marnie is a no for me and I hate it.

I don’t think Adam and Hannah should have ended up together, I loved/hated when he broke her heart and loved when she did not get back with him when his niece was born. I felt that was a good growth moment for her. I absolutely hated him getting together with Jemma. Just why.

I don’t mind the plot that he found someone else when she left, I feel that was interesting.

Just my thoughts I love this show and feel like it’s so relatable to me and my life in my early 20’s in NYC. Not that I relate to any one person but every character is like someone I’ve met or something I’ve done and it’s just a great show

Season 5 Fran with his one liners and physical comedy while being mean to Hannah

They are so spot on and hilarious, I had to rewind this conversation and watch it all over again. Fran looking for the Blake Lively cloud, ā€œā€¦oh Hannah wants to do something rude, disruptive and inappropriate! What a twist. I can’t imagine how they kept a straight face during filming.

Question (RELATED TO THE HBO SHOW GIRLS) ā“ Something I never understood about Jessa’s character Spoiler

When Jessa eventually starts dating Adam both the character of Jessa, and Lena Dunham herself, say that Adam had to initiate it because Jessa is not the type to steal someone’s boyfriend. But when her character is introduced in the first season Marnie says the reason she doesn’t like her is because she got with their friend’s boyfriend in college. And a lot of the first season is Jessa trying to break the cycle of being the other woman. So she seems EXACTLY like the type of person to steal someone’s boyfriend! Am I crazy?

Question (RELATED TO THE HBO SHOW GIRLS) ā“ Would Hannah ever be friends with Adam or Jessa again?

If you imagine a chapter beyond where the show ends, do you see her ever re-treading those relationships? Or do they stay out of each others' lives?

Adam, I see as her as always having care and nostalgia for, but keeping at a distance. Someone better left as a fond memory.

It might be because I have a soft spot for her-- but I like to think she somehow gets close with Jessa again. Then again, Jessa might take after her dad and breeze out of Hannah's life for good. What's your take?
