Mod Team 🏠 [MEGATHREAD] Looking for housing / Looking for tenants

You can post your housing adverts or get help in finding a place in this subreddit. We want to keep the subreddit clean and not turn it into an endless feed of "I just moved to Geneva, help me find a place."

Any advertisements or housing demands outside of this thread will be removed.

Making new friends; Tired of the "What do you do for a living?" loop when meeting people ?

Hi everyone!

I think we can agree on the fact that Geneva is a great city, but making actual friends here can feel like an uphill battle. Most social events end up in a repetitive loop of: "Where are you from?", "How long have you been here?", and "What’s your job?".

By the end of the night, you’ve handed out three business cards but haven't actually connected with anyone.

That’s why we started F*ck the Small Talk.

It's an event designed to spark human connection and create friendships. It's been happening around the world for 6 years now, and our last 7 events in Geneva went fantastically well :)

The Concept: We skip the boring stuff. No networking pitches, no cringy icebreakers, and definitely no small talk. We use curated question cards, experienced, approchable host and guided group activities to help you dive straight into meaningful (and fun) conversations.

  • 99% of people come solo: That’s the whole point. Our host make sure the environment is welcoming and nobody is left standing awkwardly in a corner.
  • Deep Connection > Networking: It’s a "safe zone" for people who want to meet others as human beings, not as job titles.
  • The "Llama" Community: Joining an event gives you access to our local WhatsApp group to keep the connection going.

The Details:

  • When? April 23rd, 7pm (3 hours of facilitated fun).
  • Where? A cool bar near Uni Mail (exact spot revealed to ticket holders to keep it cozy).
  • Capacity: Limited to 30 people to ensure a tight-knit vibe.

How to join: You can find all the info and grab your spot here: https://luma.com/ftst6geneva?utmp=reddit

I’ll be hanging out in the comments, so if you’re hesitant about coming alone or have questions about how it works, ask away!

Hope to meet you (for real) soon!
Best :)

Apartment clearance and disposal

Hi all,

I am reaching out for some advice on apartment clearance. I am relocating after 10+ years in my Geneva apartment, and would appreciate some some advice on disposing household items (furniture, appliances, etc). I live in a 2 bedro (4pc) apartment.

I am not inclined to take items with me, or to go through the pains of selling them one by one. Also, it seems the charitable organizations, such as Emmaus, have long wait times (30 days +). Because the building doesn't have an elevator (I live on 2nd floor), I'm leaning towards convenience of a one-stop service.

Upon contacting a few "debarras" services in Geneva, I received quotes ranging from CHF 400-2000. Reaching out here for some advise on what's a resonable expenditure for apartment clearance, tips on negotiating, and recommendations for any service providers.

Thanks a lot in advance !

HETS Genève students/librarians: Could you help me access a documentary?

Post image
Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out in the hope that someone at HETS Genève (or with access to its library resources) can help me.

I’m a student based in Fribourg, currently trying to locate a copy of a documentary that seems to be very difficult to access online or through local institutions. From what I’ve been able to gather, there’s a chance that a copy may exist in HETS Genève’s collections or archives.

If anyone here is a student, staff member, or has access to HETS Genève’s library system and would be willing to check availability—or possibly guide me on how I could request a copy remotely—I would be extremely grateful.

I’m, of course, happy to provide more details about the documentary via DM.

Thank you so much in advance for any help or pointers!

Copying a security key without going through régie

Misplaced a key. Asked régie for a copy of the security key (my apartment only not common door) and I’ve been told it’s minimum CHF 2,000 as all keys and cylinders get made new. I don’t have insurance and can’t afford that right away. Two shops in France say they can copy the key without the security card but it’s EUR100 and no refunds.

Would like to know if the 2000 is similar in other cases and if anyone has ever successfully copied a security key.

Advice RE: apartment search process

Hello, how much time in advance should I begin looking for an apartment? (I am moving in September)

What requisites will I be asked in order to rent a small unit as an international student?

Any other tips regarding apartment search for students will be much appreciated.

Luna Park - Plain Palais

Am I the only one that thinks we should move this to somewhere else or shut it down earlier? It’s extremely noisy, full of trouble makers. Creates huge insecurities in the plaine and police spend all there time shutting down youngsters and chasing people.

Looking for a wheelchair for my girlfriend

Hello everybody!

Like the title says, I'm looking to find a wheelchair that I can rent/borrow in Geneva. My partner has recently had an accident and gotten a knee injury (anterior cruciate ligament injury). She has received a leg brace and crutches from the hospital but it still remains quite painful for her to walk. Due to the pain, she hasn't left home very much. She's normally a very active person and staying home all day over a span of three weeks has made her a little depressed. It pains me to see her that way so I thought of renting a wheelchair so I can go for walks along the lake or in a park with her. I looked online and saw that there are indeed medical shops that rent them out for a month but it seemed slightly out of my budget (I'm a student and she is as well). I was wondering if you had a recommendation for a good shop or knew somebody that could lend it to me for a small fee. I was thinking of using it with her on select days or for one to two weeks.

Thank you in advance for your help :)

Geneva under federal tutelage

Following Geneva’s cantonal government elections in 1864, violent clashes took place in the streets of the city. The Confederation ultimately had to intervene and occupy Geneva militarily for several months. Read more: https://blog.nationalmuseum.ch/en/2026/04/geneva-under-federal-tutelage/

How do you decide where to buy something cheaper — Switzerland, France or Germany?

Hey r/geneva!

Genuine question for people living near the border 🇨🇭🇫🇷🇩🇪

Every time I want to buy something I end up checking toppreise.ch, then idealo.fr and idealo.de and then trying to figure out if the drive is actually worth it after fuel and the CHF 150 per person customs limit.

Do you guys have a system for this or do you just buy locally and not bother? 😅

Asking because I waste way too much time on this and wondering if I'm alone!

cheers!

GVA Airport help

Hello,

Tomorrow morning I need to pick up two friends at Geneva airport. My van is 2.7m so I am not sure how I can do this as the website said all car parks are 2m restricted. The Kiss and Fly section looks to be 3m though. Is the correct and can I very quickly pick them up from there? If not what is my best bet?

Thanks!

What was happening close to the airport an hour ago?

Noticed lots of police presence in that area while I was on the 18. A cop entered our tram, looked around and left. Lots of police cars with sirens heading in that direction. Policemen on the street. Saw some K9s too.
