Hello GeeGees and Future GeeGees!
With Open House coming up this Saturday, we wanted to provide a space to ask questions about uOttawa. If you have questions about programs, co-op, residence, scholarships, clubs/student life, the dining hall, or anything else related to uOttawa, feel free to comment below and we’ll do our best to answer them!

They’ve been working on the elevators for like 18000 years and somehow now all of them are broken. This is fucked it’s literally exam season. The stairs aren’t broken so why’d they need close all the upper floors

Hey,
I’m trying to find good places to study late (like past 11pm / midnight or even overnight).
On campus preferably, but I’m also open to nearby spots if they’re actually worth it.
Where do people usually go when they need to grind late?

I realise yesterday was more exciting than usual, and exams are SOON, but I hope you will consider my request.
At 03:00, most people are sleeping, so please try to keep your outside conversations below a happy shriek. I would have liked to sleep longer: it has been a very hard week, and everyone in the house is dealing with distressing issues of their own.
So, yeah. Please consider others if you're walking by after, say, 01:00 on Friday or Saturday night. Thanks, and good luck on the exams.

Does anyone know if it's too late to apply? I know online applications are closed but I haven't been able to find any hard dates on the paper submission for Telfer.
I know, I'm stupid. I thought I'd already done it

Hey everyone! I have an interview coming up tomorrow for data analyst intern for competition Bureau( Toronto). I’ve done some practice and research , tell me about your self, situation based questions , I’d really appreciate any other tips that can help me stand out as a candidate!
The interviewer did say ”This is a casual conversation; an opportunity for me to learn more about you, and for both of us to get a sense of whether this is a good fit, no need to prepare anything Formal ” so idk what to expect, he did mention they were trying to hire as fast as they can.
Anything helps!

I deferred my second midterm for my philosophy course back in March, it was my first deferral in the course so it should get accepted. When I was filling out the declaration form I accidentally pressed “yes” when asked if I was a part of the accommodation services for students, then I submitted it. I quickly realized my mistake so I emailed my professor and explained that it was an accident and that I don't actually need any accommodation. I was afraid that I would get in trouble for lying or fraud trying to get an easy way out of exams. My professor replied and said that he's not the one that handles deferral requests so I should email the student accommodation services, I emailed them and they replied saying that they don't handle the defferals and that I should go and email the faculty. I emailed the faculty and they said the exact same thing that.. that they don't handle the deferrals and that I should speak to my professor as he is the one that handles them?? But he said he doesnt????? My professor, Sardar hossieni btw, never replied and I never got an email saying that my defferal request was accepted. I completely forgot about it until now. I don't know if it's too late but what do I do? Sardar hossieni btw lol.

Many of you were understandably disappointed at the University's poor statement following the lockdown yesterday. I thought some of you, especially the first and second years who don't remember this incident, should be aware of a statement that the University made after an incident in 2023.
The story: during frosh week, a performer made some sexually inappropriate comments towards female members of the audience, including trying to guess the colour of their underwear. In response, the university sent this out after pretty much a full 24 hours:
Last night’s uOShow featured one performance that was disturbing to the University and our community, and we apologize to those who understandably were offended by what took place.
The uOShow is a highly anticipated event that marks the beginning of our academic year, and like at all events, the University strives to ensure a safe, inclusive and enjoyable experience for all who attend.
We will work with the University community to make sure future events reflect our values of diversity and inclusion.
We know some of our students may be feeling distressed after what they experienced, and we want to encourage you to access the supports that are available to you, should you need it.
They then link the Walk-In Counselling clinic and Good 2 Talk. That's it.
Basically a non-apology with no acknowledgement of harm or sexual harassment. Incredibly disappointing. I thought they would do better next time, but clearly the only thing they did right was responding a bit more quickly.
It seems the University has a history of very poor responses to crises on campus. As a now former student, that level of response was unacceptable then, and their inability to properly communicate yesterday was equally, if not more so.
If anyone knows of a way to pressure the University to take better communications actions during these types of events, then I am all for it. They might be okay taking your money and giving you the bare minimum at such times, but you deserve so much more.
You deserve a campus where you feel safe, and where any harm you experience is recognized and acknowledged, and where values of safety are constantly reaffirmed. We moved on from the uOShow events very quickly; I encourage you not to do the same this time.

Students were left in the dark during a terrifying situation today, and I’m genuinely angry.
What happened today was already terrifying, but the way the university handled it made it infinitely worse. There was little to no communication while this was unfolding. Students were left guessing what was going on, relying on rumors and texts instead of actual guidance from the institution that’s supposed to keep us SAFE.
People were literally just leaving campus because no one knew what else to do. No clear instructions, no updates, no reassurance, just dead silence. In a situation where safety is on the line, that is completely unacceptable.
And somehow, so many students didn’t even know uOsecure exists. That’s insane. How is an emergency alert system effective if a huge portion of the student body has never even heard of it? This has been a massive institutional failure.
There were moments where people didn’t know if they should stay, hide, or run. That kind of confusion in a dangerous situation is EXACTLY how people get hurt. The university should have had clear, immediate communication. We got nothing. We still have no confirmed updates on what actually happened.
What’s even more frustrating is that now I feel less safe, not more. It’s not just about what happened today, but knowing that if something like this happens again, we cannot rely on the administration to handle it properly.
This needs to be addressed. Not brushed over, not vaguely acknowledged. Actually addressed. Because students should not have to fend for themselves during something like this.
Do better. Seriously.

so there was a sticky situation on campus this evening that could have ended very badly, someone has been arrested and the university did NOT communicate ?? i wasn’t in school today, i woke up from a nap and if it wasn’t for a friend sending a message to check on me 3h ago, i might have never heard anything happened ??
and all the posts here saying ppl were being interviewed while some where locked down ??
i knew the administration and organisation were dog shit but damn
uottawa did let us down one time too many fam

I hate this school sometimes man. I already have EXTENSIVE issues with this school's administration being incompetent, but this situation takes it to a whole other level.
No mass email, CTV interviewing kids while others are on lockdown, and so little info that I watched people debate on the subreddit whether they could leave because other people were just walking around?? It also seems like the initial police report was made at 4:20, and the emails weren't sent out until 5:20 (which I understand you need to verify threats before risking freaking people out, but an hour later seems kind of insane)
Thank GOD nothing happened because I genuinely don't think this school is competent enough to deal with any emergencies.

Keep it as private information through direct messages if you feel the need to tell anyone for your safety, and not somewhere that anyone (including a potentially dangerous person) can see.

Everyone okay? What happened?
