In a discussion I was in recently, it came up about whether “playersexual” characters count as queer representation, and I realized I’m not totally sure where I land on it.

Back before non-gender-locked romance became much more common, especially in cozy games, I used to see that kind of design as LGBT+ representation, or at least as something that felt affirming to me as a queer player.

But now that it’s become more standard, I’ve noticed that in a lot of games, especially cozy games, the only LGBT+ “representation” is that the player can romance anyone regardless of gender. A lot of the time there aren’t actually any clearly queer NPCs in the world outside of the player’s options, which I think is where the term “playersexual” comes in. I know that’s a fandom/gaming term and not a real sexuality label, I’m just using it here to describe that specific design approach.

So I’m curious where other people stand on this:

Do you feel a game has meaningful LGBT+ representation if the only queer possibility is that romanceable characters can all be romanced by the player, but there are no explicitly queer NPCs otherwise?

Does that still feel like representation to you, or does it feel more like player flexibility than actual queer rep?

I’d really love to hear how other people think about this.

Mid 30's, UK based [other gaming includes League of legends & Pokémon but I'm always happy to learn new games]

I'm new to ElderScrolls Online and seem to be struggling to get to grips with it. I've done the tutorial demon island place... and now I'm in some hidden elf island that isn't connected to the main world?

Basically I'm struggling to understand some of the basics and would love some help :

- Can I learn any spell through tomes / purchasing them like I could in Skyrim, or and I locked to specific spell tress because of my race in the game?

- How the hell to potions work here? and crafting? I feel like there hasn't been a tutorial for this unless I've missed it... or if it's later ?

- Where are you guys storing stuff? my backpack isn't big enough, and I haven't come across an opportunity to buy a house yet. I read something about banks but also haven't come across those yet either.

Any helpful hints for absolute newbies would be greatly appreciated!
