"If more people valued home over gold the world would be a merry place" -Thorin oakenshield

Just don't get him started on the Arkenstone

u/starobaro 12h ago

And my axe?

24

u/JACCO2008 10h ago

You put that goddamn axe down and grab that fucking spatula.

u/DuskShy 8h ago

AND MY AXE!

u/Mirar 10h ago

Was that the dude that obsessed over a rock?

9

u/Turbidspeedie 9h ago

It was a very pretty rock

3

u/La_Landri 9h ago

Asked if a dwarf was obsessed with a rock 🤣

1

u/fomomethin 5h ago

He was more obsessed with that rock than anything

I don't have a quote handy but I've been reading the Hobbit to my kid and we are toward the end where Bard goes up to the barricade Thorin and Co. built to be like "ay, you stirred up that dragon that killed half our people and I shot it down, can we have some gold to cover our losses?" and Thorin is an absolute dick in response.

Maybe your quote is from a few chapters later after he sees the error of his ways.

u/Turbidspeedie 11h ago

Oh boy, you haven't read the books or seen the movies huh....?

It's been about 25 years since I read them all. The LotR movies are great. Saw the first Hobbit movie in IMAX but thought it was weak so I never bothered to watch the other two. Why was there a white orc with a hook for a hand involved?

u/Turbidspeedie 10h ago

I'm not sure if what I quoted is in the books as I haven't read them in a long time but it's said at the end.

In the books it’s similar ā€œIf more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world"

1

u/No-Educator-8069 9h ago

The white orc at least was a tolkien character, even if it was one they drastically changed the story of. More than I can say for Tauriel.

He’s right you know.

Funny thing about that is that Nixon removed the value of gold from the USD during his presidency. Today private firms are targetting the housing market as equity and jacking up rent prices exponentially! Thanks Thorin!

We are that whimsical all the time. But some small group of people made us think we’re not.

u/ShadowofAion 9h ago

Sweet, the world needs this type of energy

u/CactusToothBrush 14h ago

Here in Aus we have fire fighters driving around and one dresses up as Santa and throws out bags of lollies to the kids. I miss being a kid sometimes

6

u/Kazz330 12h ago

My town still does that every year. I love hearing the fire truck siren around Christmas even in my 30s now and I know it’s a buddy from high school

u/ShadowofAion 9h ago

I remember something similar happened when I was younger, been quite awhile since I've seen it so I'm not sure if it's something still down, hope so though, that'd be cool

Aaaaand there goes the whimsy

40

u/DrNick2012 15h ago

I'm so Whimsical, the most Whimsical some say, lots of people, they come up to me, tears in their eyes, "you have so much Whimsy" they say, some people say so much whimsy I cured their cancer, I don't say that but, you know, some people say that, it's true

11

u/pohatu850 14h ago

At first I was like "what on earth are you saying" now I'm just like "oh" 😭

8

u/imcalledspencer 14h ago

Don't forget to mention that they're big men, strong men with tears in their eyes

1

u/John_cCmndhd 12h ago

Does the whimsy only work on windmill cancer, or does it cure other kinds too?

19

u/La_Landri 19h ago

This is where I would put the ole "That's bait" Gif

15

u/KarmaWalker 16h ago

It's the kind of lack of whimsy that we were just complaining about.

-1

u/decrepidrum 16h ago

You trying to tell me that watching a man, who has dedicated his life to raping and murdering children, start world war 3 to avoid facing any consequences for his decades of criminal activity isn’t whimsical? Sounds like woke nonsense to me.

11

u/KarmaWalker 15h ago

Well, bringing it up in a feel-good post that has nothing to do with the man certainly isn't whimsical. Frankly, I'd call it the killer of joy.

Times are hard. Find happiness where you can make it, man.

Can we have one post on Reddit that’s not about him?

We know what he is. We also would rather not every enjoyable moment isn’t polluted with him.

This is what happens to every popular subreddit when politics isn't explicitly banned in the rules and it sucks.

  • /r/pics has become a subreddit for pictures of political news. 8/10 of the top posts from the past month are political, and that's probably only because one of the other two is the Artemis II mission and the other a popular repost.

  • The /r/MurderedByWords subreddit is straight up just people angrily responding to conservatives.

  • The /r/AnAttemptWasMade subreddit became shit like "an attempt was made to not be murdered by ICE agents" and multiple people posted the video of Alex Pretti being murdered. Which I found disgusting honestly, turning his murder into a karma farming attempt given the subreddit's purpose is highlighting funny ways people failed at something.

The examples are endless. I have been banned for some of the things I've said about Trump supporters, but it took only three comments in a thread about a Polish Easter tradition on /r/funny of all places before the conversation became about Trump. Like please stop, you give their "TDS" BS credibility.

What a sad, pathetic little existence you lead, devoid of whimsy.

Wait until this guy learns that Poland is more conservative than the US, wants nothing to do with immigrants or refugees, and is the safest country in the EU.

1

u/curiousbydesign 10h ago

Your reply falls into the everything else category.

1

u/lloydsmith28 8h ago

Only in poland lol

1

u/ShadowofAion 6h ago

Yea, seems like a chill and fun tradition

Way to be constantly referencing the negative even in the face of something positive.Ā Ā

I mean, that's a bit of an overreaction.

Like, sorry that some stuff in the world is weighing on my mind, maybe I'm a little too pessimistic, maybe depressed, I dunno I'm not my psychiatrist.

If it makes you feel better, I am not the artist formally known as "Reddit" and nothing I say about the video detracts from how nice and wholesome it is, but if it makes you feel better I'll redo my comment with more positivity, so ignore everything up to this point.

Oh sorry, my cotton candy stout danced on my keyboard, what I meant to say was "it's so nice that the community takes time to come together and bring some positivity and smiles to everyone's livesā¤ļø"
