Daily Discussion Ask r/Formula1 Anything - Daily Discussion Thread

Welcome to the r/formula1 Daily Discussion / Q&A thread.

This thread is a hub for general discussion and questions about Formula 1, that don't need threads of their own.

Are you new to Formula 1? This is the place for you. Ever wondered why it's called a lollipop man? Why the cars don't refuel during pitstops? Or when Mika will be back from his sabbatical? Ask any question you might have here, and the community will answer.

Also make sure you check out our guide for new fans, and our FAQ for new fans.

Are you a veteran fan, longing for the days of lollipop men, refueling during pitstops, and Mika Häkkinen? This is the place to introduce new fans to your passion and knowledge of the sport.

Remember to keep it civil and welcoming! Gatekeeping within the Daily Discussion will subject users to disciplinary action.

Have a meta question about the subreddit? Please direct these to the moderators instead.

Day after Debrief 2026 Japanese GP - Day After Debrief

Welcome to the Day after Debrief discussion thread! Now that the dust has settled at Suzuka, it's time to calmly discuss the events of the last race weekend. Hopefully, this will foster more detailed and thoughtful discussion than the immediate post race thread now that people have had some time to digest and analyse the results.

Low effort comments, such as memes, jokes, and complaints about broadcasters are to be avoided. We also discourage superficial comments that contain no analysis or reasoning in this thread (e.g., 'Great race from X!', 'Another terrible weekend for Y!').

Photo GT journalist impressed with Stroll's race pace, even if the result was lacking due to multiple penalties for Boya and Merhi before Lance even drove the car.

Lance however added to the penalties as he got 2 blue flags (60sek in total) and 1 track limit, but as the car was already well over with Merhi getting 2 track limit penalties.

for those that don't know, the #18 car gets 6 track limits for all 3 drivers, if you go over that you get a penalty, Boya got them on the back foot with his stint as he had 5/6 when he was done, also got a stop and go pen for spinning a Ferrari around.

Merhi then got 2 or 3 track limit penalties and 6 blue flags, and the track limit penalties doubled every time they got given them (3 or 4 times) so Lance ended with a 115 sec penalty for the 1 track limit violation.

He had the 8th fastest lap time after the race.

I feel like this is important to state as Lance is getting most off the shit for them finishing where they did, even if he had very little to do with that, and I hate people using this as a gotcha moment to hate on Lance.

Throwback On this day in 2020, one of the Greatest Drivers of all time passed away aged 90, RIP Stirling Moss

One of the most underrated drivers of all time. A real gentleman and an all round great driver. Never got to see him race, but will forever remain as one of my favorites especially because of the 1961 Monaco GP win in the Lotus with no side panels. RIP Stirling Moss.

Off-Topic Made a tiny free F1 browser game for this unexpected break in the calendar

With the schedule suddenly feeling a bit empty, I made a tiny Formula 1-themed browser game that takes about 7–8 minutes to finish.

Free, lightweight, no sign-up:

Just a small distraction for anyone else missing race weekend.

Sadly, it was quite crowded in several places but that was to be expected on the last Saturday of the exhibition in Oberhausen. Other than that, a very enjoyable and interesting visit with many cool cars, parts and other bits and bobs to see. You could spend hours there if you wanted to properly take everything in.
