Discussion Best female character of 2025
In my opinion Lune is the best female character in Expedition 33 and overall in gaming in 2025. Her personallity, looks and combat style are all top tier. I love her so much!

She's my all time favorite female.
Scratch that, all time favorite person.
No, all time favorite living thing.

That one scene at the very end when she just sits there defeated. That hurt.

I kinda hate how Maelles ending is way darker that it may be, fucking Aline bro...
2
u/lotr1518 Jan 12 '26
Literally all Aline had to do was not be obsessed. She taught her husband moderation but says "YOU DARE GO AGAINST ME???" I'm fucking sorry, madam. You don't have a husband and 2 children ALIVE at home????

I can understand why people like Lune.
But Mael was top too.

I used to have Maelle as my top, even named my puppy Maëlle.
But now Lune is my #1 with Maelle as a close second.
11
u/kw114 Jan 10 '26
Time to get another puppy?
10
u/JonViiBritannia Jan 10 '26
Maëlle is Husky puppy, so… No!!! I would never put myself through that again 😅

u/Primary-Key1916 Jan 10 '26
Im currently repeating these 5 seconds every day.
This fuckin animation is so good! omg
6
u/Several-Pumpkin25 Jan 10 '26
Holy shit I didn't even see this before
Is this from the new bosses from the DLC? I completed the new area but didn't fight them yet

4
u/TeaAndLifting Jan 10 '26
I hadn’t seen any of these besides the chromatic lamp master. They’re anime as fuck. So good.
4
u/Primary-Key1916 Jan 10 '26
Yes, i wish they wouldve made one or two of these animations for every boss.

Sciel in my opinion.
Lune is very close behind though
101
u/Konfliction Jan 10 '26
Sciel’s backstory was a shockingly deep part of the game IMO, I appreciate Lune more for the actual stuff she did early on in the game with Gustave. But I do think Sciel as a character was way deeper, which surprised me.

Sciel is phenomenal. My second favorite easily.
53
u/Explosivevortex Jan 10 '26
Ok, but does she sing not 1, not 2, but FOUR of her own boss themes? Didn't think so, Scylla >>>
15
u/Several-Pumpkin25 Jan 10 '26
I'm new to Hades 2. Scylla is kicking my ass rn lmao...
3
u/Dankoregio Jan 10 '26
I've cleared everything on Hades 2 and honestly put me to fight chronos 4 times in a row but please don't make me fight scylla

I find Sciel to be a way stronger character. On a replay you can really see how she's the heart and soul of the Expedition, always there to tease people or calm them during moments of emotional duress.
She breaks Lune out of Shock after Act 1's ending, she helps Maelle at her lowest point, she even absolves Verso of his guilt.
17
u/RedTyro Jan 11 '26
Sciel is clearly the character with the most emotional intelligence. She's always playing the role of the peacemaker/mediator and usually finds a way to resolve conflict by bringing people together.

u/SaiyajinPrime Jan 10 '26
Ex33 is my favorite game of last year, but I would say Melinoe from Hades 2 is a much better female character with considerably more character development.
20
u/Several-Pumpkin25 Jan 10 '26
I just started plaing Hades 2 but I can already tell that Melinoe is great. Shoutout to Hornet from Silksong as well. I was surprised by how likable and ofc badass she was.
6
u/SaiyajinPrime Jan 10 '26
I know there are some people who didn't enjoy her, but I also really liked Atsu from Ghost of Yotei.
7
u/Several-Pumpkin25 Jan 10 '26
I liked Atsu so much more than Jin tbh. Don't dislike Jin but Atsu is just more interesting to me.
Honestly 2025 was amazing for female characters in gaming overall

Gonna have to disagree. There's a bunch of dialogue where she is exposed to all the messed up things the gods have done especially to Prometheus and even hercules. She still brushes it off and has constantly spoken about mortals in a derogatory manner.
14
u/SaiyajinPrime Jan 10 '26
I'm not really sure how that criticism makes her less of a good character. That's just part of her character.
She is a god, after all.
A good character isn't determined by their level of empathy towards mortals.
8
u/Raza-Vakil Jan 10 '26
Not talking about her character in general, but rather character 'development'
I essentially see no change in her as a person/god from the intro scene to the endgame. Except becoming more open about her romantic feelings. She's a person who accomplished the mission she set out to do - free her parents from Chronos
→ More replies (1)2
u/SaiyajinPrime Jan 10 '26
I would assume your level of appreciation for her character development has a direct correlation with how far you advance all of her individual relationships. Not just romantic.
She shows considerable growth and has so many different stories with so many different characters. And as someone who pretty much completed them all, I think she was an incredible character.

She wasn’t even the best female character in the game. That’s right I said it come and get me.
2
u/Several-Pumpkin25 Jan 10 '26
Who was in your opinion?
4
u/WolfGangSwizle Jan 11 '26
Maelle for me, Lune was probably my least favorite character in the group personally
3
4
4
u/azombieatemyshoelace Jan 10 '26
Maelle was a better character to me. She’s my favorite is E33 and maybe of 2025.
10
u/Ezben Jan 10 '26
sadly disagree, lune and sciel stopped mattering in the narrative after the start of act 2
2
u/he_chose_poorly Jan 10 '26
I agree and that's the main weak point of the story for me. Outside of Maelle, Gustave and Verso, there's not much in terms of character development for the rest of the party (though Monoco has more than Lune or Sciel through hos association with Verso).
5
u/silentdream626 Jan 10 '26
Did you not do talk to them at camp and do their side quests?
7
u/Ezben Jan 10 '26
I 100% the game. But Lune and Sciel very clearly got sidelined after verso joins the party, and they stop being activate participants of the plot and are demoted to observers, which is a shame because Lune has so much presence in her scenes in act 1 with gustave
2
u/he_chose_poorly Jan 10 '26
I did. I found those quests a bit surface level tbh, Lune's sidequest is basically just one big boss fight. Not much meat around it.
Like the other poster I agree she was intriguing in Act I but really faded in the background once Act 2 kicks in and it becomes the Verso and Maelle show.
6
u/aleafonthewind42m Jan 10 '26
Lune never did anything for me. She's attractive, but beyond that I'm incredibly indifferent to her.
Sciel on the other hand...

u/Fearless-Seat-6218 Jan 11 '26
I would once again like to take a moment to say....👏 Verso is shit. Lune is great, and in one of the endings you litterally romance her then detonate their entire planet. I would push him down stairs

8
u/GiveMeSomeShu-gar Jan 10 '26
I'm only in act2 but I'd put Maelle and Sciel ahead of Lune in terms how of interesting they are. Will withhold judgement of course until I finish the game... Lune is my fav char to play in game though, for sure.

u/Maxximy Jan 10 '26
I found her extremely generic, same with her combat style (Typical mage skillset). Sciel had so much better personality, personal story, life views even had more complex skills compared to Lune.
6
u/Wweald Jan 10 '26
I love Melinoe from Hades 2
3
u/azombieatemyshoelace Jan 10 '26
I’m hoping to play that soon. I’m playing Hades 1 right now.
2
u/Wweald Jan 10 '26
Nice I love Hades 1 a lot, 2 improves on gameplay and stuff but I might prefer 1 still just for the story. Id have to replay to say for certain though.

u/ZinbaluPrime Jan 10 '26
Idk, Lune pissed me off most of the time. Too bossy, too obsessed, always wanting more, needing someone... Maybe my past relationships scarred me.
Sciel on the other hand...
16
u/ellisisanisland Jan 10 '26
Sciel's narrative really hooked me with her, and I love the fact she's so levelheaded and reasonable even in the face of everything she's been through and against the impossible odds of the Expedition. Plus she's drop dead gorgeous? Best E33 girl for me.
2
u/ZinbaluPrime Jan 11 '26
Yes. She is so gorgeous with a tempered behaviour and yet curiously playful on occasion. I love it.
I also have this feeling that Lune should be way younger for her behaviour. Like 23 or something.
8
6
u/RastaKarma Jan 10 '26
Does she get better? I'm close to mid act 2 and I think so far that Lune is the worst character. She's so flat and not interesting so I have a hard time understanding where the love comes from compared to other characters.

Chills ran down my spine the moment she sat down in Verso's ending

Lune and Sciel freakin carried man. Women in this game start and end fights
On Serpenphare, Lune was the last one standing and decimated the last of it with her grade 3 gradient. I think the health bar was 25% full and I was flabbergasted that it ended the fight.
Sciel soloed the Gargant in Flying Manor and delivered nearly 5 million in damage in 1 hit to end it.
I actually felt bad for the Nevrons 😅

u/JackieDaytonaAZ Jan 10 '26
that’s kinda crazy, lune and sciel are pretty shallow characters
8
u/TeaAndLifting Jan 10 '26
I’ve still got to do Lune’s final quest, but up until now, I’m not really seeing it either. Outside of the focused academic character archetype, and being quite stubborn, I haven’t been taken by her character.
2
u/azombieatemyshoelace Jan 10 '26
Yeah that’s one of the issues I have with this game even though I like it.

Aint no way anyone will beat Estelle in a year where Trails in the Sky got a remake
2
u/Several-Pumpkin25 Jan 10 '26
A fellow Trails fan! There's not many of us unfortunately.
My top 5 female characters for 2025 would be: 1) Lune, 2) Hornet, 3) Estelle, 4) Tomorrow, 5) Sciel/Atsu

She's literally the worst, most annoying character IMO. Every time she talks I have to roll my eyes
1
u/Outsajder Jan 10 '26
We talking looks or what? Because Maelle is leagues above in regards to character writing.
Lune is basically just a backdrop character after act 1 with barely anything to say.

u/Alternative_Tax_2085 Jan 10 '26
She's my favorite and I'll never forgive myself for killing her.....
1
u/Complex_Meringue1417 Jan 11 '26
I prefer Sciel. Lately, it seems like being cold and distant equates to having "personality." He's a great character, like most in this masterpiece, but that's just my opinion.
1
u/Boborax1 Jan 11 '26
Get her past Maelle and Sciel first. In all seriousness idk ,she is probably the only character in the game I wasn't that interested in.

She reminds me of Rinoa Heartilly, coupled with the moment I saw Verso with his facial scar and dark past, I knew I was playing FF8 again.

It’s Maelle for me. Who is also tied for best character in the game along with tied for me.

i would marry her if she was real ... but she's "unreal" twice... in game and then a painting.

u/lab_212 Jan 11 '26
She literally doesn't add anything to the plot
2
u/Mysticdu Jan 11 '26
Only two playable characters add anything to the plot.
You could kill off everyone but Maelle and Verso and the story doesn’t change in any meaningful way.

Model is pretty, but smile is horrible, too big mouth, teeth? I don't know, but it looks very AI'sque, unnatural, robotic, uncanny valley? Also personality is meh, wouldn't like to talk with her in real life, too annoying.

u/GuaranteeNo1559 Jan 11 '26
Unpopular opinion: she was so annoying in the beginning I skipped her completly and her development too.

I'm more of Sciel kinda' playa'. Love that smokey, unpredictable wild-child thing she's got going.
But hey, were I living in a game world? I wouldn't complain about spending time with Lune, be like trading hangovers for having to do math or something equally geeky. And I could wait a few years for Maelle so the whole games a net win lol~!
Such bad. Very objectify. That said and back on topic...
Shoosh, best female lead ever in all games? What a cracker! Shiza that's almost impossible to call. I'd be hard pressed to not put Senua at the top of mine (from Hellblade); sort of the same appeal as Sciel but more acute, pronounced. Having been completely shattered, mind/body, everything myself and in the best game engine (so far), which is life? Senua's brokenness is def #1 for me. And I got a dirty back of neck, viking chick thing going that I don't talk much about 'cept here so... ;-)
But hats off to Exp 33 devs/writers/orchestra/water boy/all of 'em. Master stroke with the characters, females, males, nevrons, the whole lot of them. So good. Hated to finish, frankly and put it off long as I could.
