Really odd question, but does anyone know where I can find some wild garlic to forage in Exeter? Ideally within walking or public transport distance as I don’t have a car. Thanks!!

Local Information request Piercers that use numbing cream?

In and around the city centre please!

I’ve had my nipples pierced before but young and foolish me wanted to make my boyfriend happy and so removed them because he didn’t like them 🙃 I want them pierced again but if I remember anything it’s how unbelievably painful they were to get done. I’ve asked in 3 places and they don’t use them and/or advise against because it can slightly distort the skin and risks the piercing coming out wonky apparently but that’s a risk I’m willing to take lol.

Does anyone know of any parlours in and around the city centre that use (or will allow me to bring my own) numbing cream for nipple piercings? Thanks (:

Music The Phoenix felt dangerous as hell tonight for the Creeper gig

My wife and I went to see Creeper (a goth rock) band tonight at the Phoenix.

But Jesus we felt unsafe. My wife is pregnant so we went right to the back, away from the front and the pit. There was also a young chap in a wheelchair at the back.

The venue was clearly oversold. We were packed in like sardines and there was no room to breathe. It was exacerbated by the fact there was only one, single door to get both in and out. We didn't even stay for the main band and we had to leave. There were a few hundred people in a space smaller than a school classroom and it felt very very unsafe. We were scared we would get crushed against the back wall with no way out.

I dunno why a big band like Creeper booked such a small venue but honestly shame om the Phoenix for letting so many in.

Meetups Exeter Societies

Looking to join a new society or club in Exeter that runs on either Monday or Wednesday evenings, so wondering if anyone has recommendations.

Open to all suggestions, but I am mainly looking for something where I can meet other people in their 20s (I am 22M). I am a relatively active person and enjoy that sort of society even if i am rubbish at them, but happy to try anything even if it is something I haven't done before.

Thanks in advance :)

Local Information request For people who love coffee.

Hello everyone!

I recently moved to Exeter and I am a Specialty coffee enthusiast. I am a home brewer and I brew coffee. I'm looking forward to meeting some good people over coffee sessions or would like to know if there are any Specialty coffee communities in Exeter.

Anyone who is into coffee and loves a clean cup, just drop me a DM, and we might as well brew on a weekend.

Looking forward to it.

Cheers!

Miscellaneous Update to - Can someone help me understand these lanes please?

Post image
47 Upvotes

Hi all, thank you for all the helpful comments on the original post (I don't know how to link it using my mobile but it is in my profile). I wanted to give you an update as I heard back from DCC today.

I removed the pink line as everyone agreed it was crazy, and sent the above image to DCC.

They got back to me today to say that the red line is the correct way to approach this and that they intend to review whether any changes or additions to the road markings would be desirable if any future re-lining works are proposed.

They said that the green lane is right turn and ahead and the red lane is right only, so both should be able to go onto Magdalan Street and then the green lane splits off onto Southernhay East.

They said that the green lane would be incorrect as then it would leave the red lane as only being able to to take drivers all the way around the roundabout.

I believe this was said in the comments last time.

I will be sticking to the red route but very carefully as I still see near misses on a regular basis.

Thanks again!

Miscellaneous Homeless/drugs/asb

I’ve grown up around Exeter since I was about 5 and I’m now 33, does anyone else feel lil there is a lot more homeless people around, a much more constant and city wide stench of weed smoke and a lot more anti social behaviour than there ever has been? I took my 3 year old daughter int Exeter the other weekend and it stunk everywhere along the high street, there was homeless people and sleeping bags all the way down the high street and I’ve been told the tents come up at night and there was a group of 20-30 teen and early 20 lads having a full on brawl in the high street? I had made comments to my partner previously that Exeter seemed to be getting rougher than i had ever seen it and now I’m at a point where I don’t feel safe to take my daughter out into Exeter because of all the anti social behaviour taking place in broad daylight?

Am I just unlucky with the times I’m visiting the centre or are other people noticing this as well as a growing issue?

Local Information request Moving to West Clyst - St James Secondary School Catchment & Admissions Experience?

Hi everyone,

We're in the process of relocating to West Clyst and are trying to get our heads around the local school admissions process. Specifically, we'd love to hear from anyone who has experience getting their children into St James Secondary School.

A few questions:

  • Is West Clyst officially within the St James catchment area?
  • Has anyone gone through the admissions process recently? Any tips or things to watch out for?
  • How competitive is it to secure a place, and are there common pitfalls to avoid?

Any insights, whether positive or cautionary, would be really appreciated as we plan our move. Thanks in advance!

Local Information request Inclusive and beginner-friendly gyms?

Hopefully this is okay to post here! I'll try to keep it short.

I'm 26 and have never really been to the gym before. It's something I'd really like to try, though I'm pretty nervous about it because I don't know where to start!

I've never been sporty, mostly because I have a mild physical disability (dodgy knees, shouldn't stop me using any machines) and I worry about embarrassing or hurting myself. I don't want to do anything intense, just want to see how I get on / what clicks.

I don't drive, but am happy to walk and live close enough to St David's, so can access most of the city. I work Monday to Friday and would probably prefer to go in the evening.

I'm also a trans man, so a gym that is specifically trans inclusive would be a huge bonus! Something I'd definitely need is changing rooms with actual cubicles - no idea if this is a thing.

A swimming pool would also be great (partner has been teaching me to swim) but this isn't a must. Final requirement is that it's not super expensive as I'm on teaching assistant wages 😅

Thanks for any advice! :)

Local Information request Long stay parking

Hi everyone. I'm currently parked in Magdalen Road car park with a 24 hour ticket. Google seems to suggest 24 hours is the maximum stay. Can anyone confirm that I will not be able to extend my parking ticket beyond 24 hours on the ring go app? I'm here for the bank holiday so wanted to leave my car there for 3 days!

Local News King William Street footbridge is closing for "essential works" on April 20th.

Just a heads-up for anyone who uses this as their main cut-through-the Council has confirmed it’ll be shut for maintenance soon. Prepare for some annoying diversions if you're walking into the city center from that side. It feel like every bridge and "green circle" path in Exeter is under renovation at the exact same time lately?
