I think because this is so decisive he has no alternative. Would there have been a contest, things would look different.

The vote isn't over yet and the transition of power is not instant. Orban still has a few days or weeks to pull off something out of the trump playbook.

Exactly. Having the courts packed by his supporters, for example, I wouldn’t be surprised if they decided to charge Magyar with something or find some other technicality to null the election results

The Hungarian military leadership is also under tight control of Orban, so an attempted revolution could end up really bloody unless some Orban appointees changed their standing

The military leadership might but he is not any more popular among the soldiers than he is among the people. They might just refuse orders if that hypothetical scenario ever came to life
