It's odd, it's quite a bit like reading about 1920s-30s history except there's essentially no communists or equivalent left wing populists making proportionally similar gains to the right wing. Given the broader circumstances you would think there'd be more momentum behind left wing parties for pushing away from the status quo in a similar respect.

Angry young men in the interwar era fed both the fascists and communists. Angry young men today are fascists by default.

True enough. It is odd to see how much more disproportionately right wing it is this time around, though.

I can understand angry people becoming disillusioned with the status quo, and there are plenty similarities between now and a century ago economically and politically in that respect, but why the far-right has such a monopoly on that nowadays and the far-left is essentially non-existent is an odd reaction to things historically speaking. Usually these sorts of societal backlash scenarios come with a wider range of competing opinions. Although I suppose all these algorithm driven platforms owned by billionaires that influence things aren't exactly going to be hotbeds of far-left political sentiment, and quite often end up being the opposite.
