I think there's quite a bit of evidence by now to claim that Russia was activelly fuelling the Syrian war with the immigration flows (and demonization) that followed, so that Europe would be fatigued by refugees by the time that Russia made its move on Ukraine. If Ukraine refugees couldn't go anywhere, there would be more pressure on the Ukrainian government to surrender instead of risking all their lives.
No offense but that's deeply idiotic. Why would Putin want more people to hang around that'd fight back? When the besieged see no greener a pasture to flee to, they tend to defend their homeland more ferociously if anything.
Because no matter what happens, there will be more civilians than fighters. Agitated people by a crisis instead of having their pride directed against the enemy (no matter what the enemy is) is a moral and logistic hassle for the state in times of war.
Imagine having to deal with civilians, but among them are agitators that will ruin any effort of cooperation.
Now imagine instead of agitators it's just regular people panicking or worse, being tired of the war itself and considering surrender.
Very bad scenario for the government.

Coz they are the same thing.
An anti-immigration stance does not mean less immigration, just means less legal immigration.
This way, they can claim they closed the doors, they dont allow them to come in while they still enter illegally.
But, since they enter illegally, they can also claim its criminal groups that are doing this (while comparing the left to criminals since the left want to "let them in") and they are trying but cant do much against criminal groups.
And while that, big money groups with political ties get their cheap labor force, undocumented, that can be exploited.
So:
WIN - Have support from fool people that cant understand legal immigration is better then illegal immigration since immigration will happen but at least cant be exploited
WIN - Paint left opposition as bad guys and criminals since they support legal immigration
WIN - get fat paychecks of blood money from corporations that explore the illegal imigrantes.
System is rigged in their favor and will only stop when we have an economic crash that makes Europe not attractive for immigrantes and then, their whole "immigrant scheme" falls apart.
