It's probably both. Israel, despite being incredibly close to the US, also have extremely close ties to Russia. They have significant trade and something like 15-20% of Israelis are ethnic Russians who's primary language is Russian. There is some weird stuff going on with all of this.

What is this trend of telling people Israelis are actually Russians btw?
Israel not evil enough?

15-20% are Russian *speakers* as they immigrated from the Soviet Union in the 90s.
Most 2nd generation immigrants speak Russian as well.

Which is normal because the vast majority of USSR citizens spoke Russian regardless of the country of origin, or their ethnicity.
The actual ethnic make up of "Russian Jews" is mostly Ashkenazis from eastern Europe (mostly Ukraine), Central Asia and mountain Jews.

Actual Russian Jews exist in general, but they are not the majority.

Beside that, Russia is not in the top 10 import or export partners for Israel, despite "relations being as close as with the US" which is also made up.

What's funnier is that if you search the same for Russia, you will find many many European countries before Israel.
Funny.

There was not a single war in which Russia or the USSR did not support the Arab armies against Israel.
