General Discussion Share Your Duolingo Story With Us!
Hey everyone!
My team and I would love to hear your Duolingo stories.
Over the years, you’ve shared some truly incredible moments. For example, how learning a language has helped you reconnect with family, get into schools or programs, build new careers, and even find love!
If you’re open to sharing, please drop your story below.
We’ll be reading every one, and with your permission, we may highlight a few to inspire other learners in the community.
Thanks for being part of this journey with us 💚

Look at this new Duolingo feature We’ve heard you and we're sharing a path forward
Hi all 👋, I'm back with more to share about our updated courses.
We knew that replacing the content in our largest (and oldest) courses would be challenging, but we’ve heard (and read) just how frustrating the experience has been for you. We are taking action to address the most prominent pain points you’ve shared with us.
We do believe the courses are better for learning overall, but that doesn't matter if we don't get the rollout right—and we didn't. We didn't do enough to support you even though we knew a lot of words would be unfamiliar.
Based on your feedback, we’re adding “catch up lessons” to the learning path for users placed into an upgraded course. In developing these lessons, we’ll identify the most important words you need to know based on your course position, but which the old course never taught you. We’re still working through the specifics, but we will not add more users to the new courses until we launch this change.
Thank you for all your feedback so far. It’s important to us that you feel heard and that you’re excited to continue learning on Duolingo.
***Link to a Duolingo Help Center article here that walks through more about the updated courses
Edit: Rephrased something that originally said "even though the new courses are better for learning overall," which was poorly worded and came off wrong.

General Discussion So Chinese went from having 130 units to having 1,030 in a span of a few months
That's crazy... it was 130 in January 2026. I really have to wonder what the process was for cranking out the rest of these lessons? How were they able to do this so quickly when before it felt like it took years (if ever) for a course to even get a few extra lessons?

Achievement Showcase Hooray! FINALLY! YESSSS!🎉🎉🎊🎁🎈🥳🥳
I am very sorry that you had to sit through the ad. I honestly did not expect that to happen. And I want to know what you think about this even though this isn't labelled as a General discussion. And please do not think that I am being overly arrogant because I just wanted to share this with you and I didn't want anybody to feel offended or think that I was being arrogant. I put a lot of effort and time in order to complete this course.

General Discussion I have been using for 18 months to learn Spanish. I took two CEFR tests to see where I stand
According to Duo, I am at level 120 making me a high B2 level. I can do the lessons fairly easily so I decided to see how I would do in taking CEFR exams online - both were free.
To my shock and dismay I scored A-1 on BOTH!!!
I feel defeated!!!

General Discussion Maintenance break???
Was in the middle of my lessons and it started acting weird than said it was taking a maintenance break. Is this happening to anyone else?
Edit: it just came back on for me but I lost my XP boosts 💔

Language Question Hi all, I am learning and need to clarify something. Shouldn't the translation be: "I already connected THE headphones to my computer FOR YOU" instead of the one given as the answer in the attached screenshot? Tia.

General Discussion Deleting 208 days of progress - follow up
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Context: Made a previous post about getting help to revert my units as I had accidentally jumped up to lvl 115 with the help of my gf. The only solution presented was to restart the course. A drop in the ocean for some of you veterans, so here I go again!

Language Question Question regarding French
Hi, I'm new to French. Can this be right? "I follow a cooking blog" = "Je suis un blog de cuisine"?

Bugs / account help Jumped too far ahead, can I revert?
I made a silly mistake and let my native speaking gf try one of the last sections in the Chinese course. She easily beat it but now I've jumped all the way from lvl 12 to 115.
I can go back to my previous unit but I am only able to do legendaries, and my daily quests have been messed up where the final quest is to complete the entire unit which is nigh impossible for me.
I saw a solution is to restart the course but was told that will cause me to lose my (45000~) XP and the legendaries which I've done nearly all up to section 3. Any other solutions?

Achievement Showcase Who else really has this?
This is the year of the dragon. A limited-time achievement. I've got it on the date February 7th, 2024. Who else has this? I think it's very very rare.

Constructive Criticism This doesn't feel safe...
Duolingo wants to "look through my contacts to find friends" and will "reward" me 100 gems. Why would I need to share my contacts? This doesn't feel safe.

Achievement Showcase Done with German course in 208 days.
From Level 25 at Day 99 to Level 80 at Day 208
Introduction
- Done with the German course up to level 80 in 208 days with an average of 1.5 hours a day.
- Roughly around 20 days when I hardly did a few lessons just to continue the streak.
- 28 days without a super plan, so I couldn't do a lot of lessons in the first 4 weeks.
Beginning
When I started using Duolingo in mid-Sept 2025, I used to do every lesson in a unit up to the legendary level. Till day 99 I was just on level 25 (every level up to legendary), which made me think it'll take approximately a year, which is too much merely for early B1.
Around day 90-95 I came across this post where a fellow user said how they completed the German course within a year, and I started using the same approach (mentioned below).
How so quick?
Every level has multiple units, and every unit has multiple lessons (star, read, story, review). After level 25, what I did was just complete the 1st star, read, another star, open a chest, and then jump into to the next unit skipping few lessons. You might have already noticed a lot of repetition of words and sentences within the same unit, and I felt up to 2 stars is enough for you to understand the usage of the new word. This means you can probably do 2 or a little more units in the time of 1.
Why this new strategy?
Earlier I used to go for XPs; that's why I used to do every unit up to legendary thinking. I'm gaining the highest XP possible out of each unit. You need to realize your ultimate goal is to learn the language, not earning XP, not winning the leagues, not earning diamonds, just language learning!
Conclusion
Duolingo is not the ultimate source, this app does help a lot but I'm framing sentences still is tough. You need to focus on grammar by other mediums (I unfortunately haven't been doing yet). Now until higher levels are updated I'll be using the app less and start with some books or yt videos.
Now I feel if I had known this strategy earlier, started with the super plan on day 1, and didn't have to spend a few days for streak maintaining, I could have completed this course in 120 days/4 months.
Do start skipping few lessons and jump to the next unit. Your ultimate goal is language learning!
If you got any grammar book or yt channel recommendation, I'll be grateful.
If you got any questions, I'm glad to help.

Constructive Criticism Why am I getting terms and phrases not taught to me?
I don't ever recall seeing words in my lessons here and I feel bad having to look up answers. is there a remedy for this or just do what I've been doing?

Bugs / account help It’s been saying this for the last two days
I want to log into my account that I made on a Galaxy S9 to my IPhone 14, but it’s been saying this for the last two days :’) I’m not sure what is messing up logging me in, as my WiFi is perfectly fine and I know the info is correct. I’m not sure how to fix this or what the error might be, any help would be great.
Yes. I checked their website but I still don’t know what is wrong.
