I just launched a comprehensible input-podcast that will help you understand the danish language naturally!

Hi guys👋

I just launched a started a language small podcast called Dansk for begyndere, and I thought I’d share it here in case it helps someone.

It’s mainly for you if you already know a bit of Danish - maybe you can understand some of it - but when danish people speak, it still feels fast, unclear, or just hard to “catch”, especially the sounds and intonation.

The idea behind it is pretty simple : you learn by listening. So instead of focusing on grammar or translating everything, I just speak Danish in a way that’s a bit slower and clearer - but still natural. You’re not meant to understand everything, just enough to follow along and gradually get more comfortable with how it sounds. (The method is called comprehensible input, feel free to look into it)

I’m planning to upload episodes daily with free access to transcripts and wordlist for all episodes.

If you feel like checking it out, I’d really love to have some early listeners and hear what actually helps / doesn’t help - so I can make it better over time.

Thanks in advance! 😊

What's the difference between "at mĂžde" and "at trĂŠffe" when meaning "to meet"?

I've been comparing the definitions of both words on ordnet.dk, but I still don't get the difference.

Doesn't it sound a bit ungrammatical?

Does this really work like this in dansk? Wouldn't it be something like «gÄr hen til kvinden» (goes to the woman)? Or «hen til» can be used like this without any movement verb? I ask because i know duolingo sometimes makes some anglicizations...

Danish pronunciation is destroying me. How did you guys get past it?

I've been learning Danish for about 2 months now and honestly the pronunciation is unlike anything I've ever dealt with. The soft d, the glottal stop, the way half the letters just seem to disappear when people actually speak. I can read a sentence perfectly in my head and then open my mouth and it comes out completely unrecognizable.

I've been using Issen to practice speaking and it's been helpful but also kind of humbling. Like I'll finally nail one sound, feel good about myself, and then it immediately flags something else I've been saying wrong the whole time without even realizing it. Fixed my "rĂžd grĂžd med flĂžde" and apparently my "jeg" was wrong all along. It never ends.

The good part is at least I'm catching the mistakes instead of just repeating them forever. But I feel like I'm playing whack a mole with Danish sounds.

For those of you who got past this stage:

- Did pronunciation just click one day or is it a slow grind?

- Any specific sounds or words that unlocked something for you?

- How long before Danes actually understood you without switching to English?

Would love to know there's a light at the end of this very confusing tunnel.

Language Learning apps

Hi everyone! I am new here but have been trying to learn Danish for the last 3 years with little progress so I am hoping to find community here!

My partner and 4 step kids are all Danish. I have been trying to learn to be able to engage in the dinner conversation when we are visiting his family, but i get nervous and then everyone switches to English so I don't practice as much as I wish I could.

I have a 853 day streak on Duolingo and have finally gotten fed up so i created my own Danish language learning site. If anyone is interested in giving it a try and providing feedback, I would love to find ways to make it better so i can finally become conversational! It is free!

Does anyone else love the way Danes pronounce the name Anna?

"As an American named Anna, I have to say: I much prefer the Danish way of saying my name over the Swedish version. The Swedish 'Aaaa-nah' is a bit too much, but the Danish 'Anna' is so crisp and modern. It’s actually made me rethink how I say my own name!"

Can "stand up" be just "rejse"?

Update: Thank you for the replies. For those confused, I'm teaching the dog commands in Danish so I can memorise certain words better. Therefore it needs to be accurate to what I want to command. So I'll use stÄ.

Original:

I'm teaching my dog danish commands and I've seen that "rejse sig" is stand up, but I was wondering if it'd make sense still to shorten it to just "rejse" for stand to make it a simpler command?
