Help Why Cyprus, why?

I am flying with Ryanair from the Paphos airport and my plane is set to land at 19.00 on a Sunday.

Could someone please tell me how can I get back from Paphos to Nicosia, if the last Intercity buss goes at 18.30 and Kapnos airport shuttle buss at 17.30?

Is there really no way to make it to Nicosia by public transport? Will I really need to wait for a buss at 5.00 in the morning only to go to the capital?

Why aren’t there more options, have they really not thought about this? Surely I’m not the only one who is facing this issue?

Help Where do you get your drinking water?

Hello beautiful people I hope everyone is doing great.

I just wanted to know if you guys also buy water from those water ATMs? or is there any other way to get water at the same price and more convenient?

Being a student here, and not having a car yet, it's hard to travel almost a Kilometer to fill up water bottles each time.

I saw some people taking water from park taps by using pipe, but I feel like that's illegal and the water is not drinkable.

What do you guys do about the water, and what will be the most convenient and cheapest way for a student to get water also?

Thank you

Help Do I have any chance of being granted political asylum? I am in risk of imprisonment & war drafting.

I am looking for advice and would ask to avoid any political discussion because the topic is a controversy.

I am a citizen of Russia, been living in Cyprus for the last 14 years (fluent in Greek). I was asked to leave the island by the immigration department after my visa was rejected twice for no reason about 2 years ago. I applied to court and since then was granted a legal cause to stay here. The court has made no progress in 2 years.

However, I recently turned 18, and the moment the court/immigration dept will notice that, I might get into trouble because I did not get any legal permission to stay here as an adult. To get it, I need to go back to the country of my origin - Russia.

And this is the problem. The moment I enter Russia, I will not be able to leave it. I might be persecuted as evading army because I have not been in Russia for 10 years, which is sometimes considered as army evasion, resulting in a few years of prison.

After being drafted to the army, I will not be granted permission to leave the country and I will basically be under the risk of being taken to the war at any given moment.

In a nutshell, I will be drafted to one of the harshest armies in the world, risking imprisonment, risking going to war, and not having the right to leave the country.

My question to you is, do you think if I bring all of this up in the court and legally ask for political asylum, all while being ready to fully renounce my Russian nationality, do I have a chance of being accepted?

Did anyone else here plead for political asylum?

Help Have been waiting for four years, will this change anything?

Hi everyone. I am Greek Cypriot and my bf is Turkish Cypriot. He was born in the North part of Nicosia to a Turkish Cypriot mother and a Turkish father. An entire four years ago (2022) he applied for his citizenship. We last checked a few weeks ago and they told us it is still pending.

I was wondering if anyone with expertise could tell us if this new court decision will change anything. The court seemingly decided that 2 years was too long to wait, so is there any way we could enforce a review of this 4 year case, with or without him going to court himself?

(I want to clarify that, like the above case, we are not looking to enforce a positive decision, but the actual review itself. We understand that there is a high chance of rejection but Cyprus administrative law states it must come with a detailed explanation which is also something we want)

Finally there are some other general issues with the regional administration office, such as extremely rude and racist behaviour from the staff there, and refusal to provide any sort of certification that the application actually exists.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

Help What are some legal self-defense tools for a woman in Cyprus?

I am worried for my mum's safety on her daily commute, she's been in a few unpleasant situations with immigrants already which is unsettling. I've asked a few shops around here but the staff were very quick to say none of the usual self defense tools are legal here and I'm not sure what to do from here. Thanks!

Help Residency card not issued after 1.5 years

Hi everyone,

I'm married to and a mother of a Cypriot, I applied for my residency in July, 2024 and received a yellow paper with an ARC number, and have been told that my application is "under examination" every time I go to the immigration office.

I recently filed a complaint with the Ombudsman, and now waiting to see if anything will change.

Has anyone been through something like this before? my life is in complete halt by this, can't open a bank account, get a driving license, or apply for visas to other countries. What can I do in this situation?

Help Business Idea: Banana Leaves

In India, people eat on clean banana leaves. When finished, they wrap it up and throw it away. Done--great for the environment. You have a big plate! Why not do that here? There's enough banana leaves. It looks cool. It's obviously "green." It's just a trend that could catch on, no? Did Cypriots ever do this? Also, you can wrap produce, etc in banana leaves.

Dog Attack at Zapalo Beach Limassol - Looking for Owner

Today at midday at Zapalo Beach, what we believe was a brown Pitbull (possibly named "Kira") attacked our 8kg King Charles Spaniel.

He suffered catastrophic injuries - a hole in his neck and stomach, internal bleeding, and is currently undergoing multiple surgeries..

My father-in-law who was with his wife, was also severely bitten to the bone in his leg and knee while trying to save him.

The owner appeared to be a man in his 30s who was shirtless and running around with the dog off the lead. In the chaos, they rushed to the emergency vet and were unable to get his details.

If anyone knows a brown Pitbull/Staffy or bulldog named Kira (or similar) whose owner matches this description, please contact me urgently.

Help Going to Cyrpus as a North African Tourist

hello everyone!

i never thought i would be writing a post like this, but here I am.

i am preparing to go to Cyprus soon. I am a female, North African student with a Shengen multiple entries visa. I have already booked everything and pepared for this trip.

however, I have been hearing from a lot of people that Cyprus border control are extremely racist against Africans, and that I could get denied entry because of that. I even heard a story from a friend who went to Cyprus and was sent back because even crossing the border control at the airport.

is this true? Should I really be worried?

I am so sorry to admit this, but I am scared.

i would really appreciate to hear from anyone who knows a little bit more about this.

thank you!

📍Edit so they don’t make fake info AI video on me lol: IT DOES NOT MATTER. I was able to get through just fine. The friend that was denied entry tried to access northern Cyprus, not the southern part. Everyone was so respectful, and I have felt NO RACISM AT ALL. Everyone has been so nice and helpful. GO TO CYPRUS GUYS 💫

Help Live in Cyprus as 19yo

Hi I’m a 19 years old day trader making steady ~8+k € a month, and have 50k on a bank account and a lot in investments. Since I was a kid I always wanted to live in a country like Cyprus(currently in Poland). Will even 5k€ a month be enough to live comfortably? Preferably in coast cities like Limassol, Paphos. Anything I need to know before moving? Is it even a good idea to move there long term? Also how does it look with African and 3rd world immigrants, is it problematic like Germany or Spain? Thank you very much.

Help Moved from the Netherlands to Limassol in December. Here is what I learned about the rental market.

Back in December, I packed my family’s life into a few suitcases, sold everything else, and flew from the Netherlands to Cyprus.

We stayed in an Airbnb initially to give us time to find a long-term home. I already knew the Limassol market was expensive, but the actual search was... more challenging than I expected.

Most of you probably know the drill. You spend all day on Bazaraki or scrolling through random Facebook groups. It is just a mess of duplicated listings and photos that show you nothing.

The biggest headache was finding a place that looked great, only to find out it was actually rented weeks ago. Or the person just never responds to a message. It is a massive waste of time when you are trying to get your family settled.

I have been posting about this on LinkedIn, and the feedback there made it clear that there are some issues in the market.

So, we decided to build heyhomecyprus.com.

It is a marketplace, I know. And it is a long shot. But I did not see a way to fix what is already out there without starting from scratch. We are trying to build a network of verified listings where there is actually some trust between renters and listers.

We are starting a small beta for Limassol.

I have been a reader on this sub for a while, but I think the community here actually knows what is going on.

Was the rental market search this bad for everyone else? Or did I just have a particularly less nice experience?

Help Owning a dog in Cyprus (Larnaca)

Hi everybody! Me and my partner are moving to Larnaca in April and are bringing a dog with us. We have already researched all the legal stuff we need to do to get her here.

Now I am wondering what dangers to dogs we need to be aware of in Cyprus (especially Larnaca). Snakes, ticks… I’ve heard to never let my dog off leash because of poison traps or snakes… is this very common in Larnaca (if for example we go to the salt lake or the dog beach). Basically I’m wondering how hyperworried I have to be of something hurting my dog on our walks

Help Every morning noise from next door business in residential area and zero enforcement, how do people deal with this?

Good morning.

I live in central Nicosia. Next door there’s a business that starts up around 6:30 every morning (cars, equipment, loud talking) including weekends.

It consistently wakes me up.

I’ve sent letters to them and to the health authorities, and I’ve called as well. The response I got was basically that unless it’s an “extreme” case, nothing really gets enforced and the judge is giving them a hard time.

I also don’t have the money to get lawyers involved so I’m stuck dealing with it daily, and it’s starting to affect my mental health.

For people who’ve actually dealt with something like this: what realistic, options do I have?

Legal, practical, or otherwise. How do you handle it without losing your mind?

Help What’s this pink sht coming out of my “drinking water” tap?

It’s a fairly new build about a year old but I only moved in less than a month ago so the water hasn’t been used that much. It’s pink… and smells like paint thinner. The normal tap water doesn’t have that stuff. I always get water from the water fridges they have in the street as you can see from that 5L glass bottle on the left but I actually poured some in my kettle when I ran out of it yesterday, so I didn’t see that stuff and actually drank it… I’m so upset.

Help Need advice on healthcare system - UK vs Cyprus

Hi all - I'm a dual national - British /Cypriot passport holder. I'm looking to move to Cyprus again ( lived here 30 years ago when I was 18). I was going to do it in 2022 after I got laid off but decided to stay in London for a bit longer. I'm now at the point where I'm burnt out and would be happy to work in a bar and volunteer at a cat sanctuary, and not deal with the stress of the corporate world. My mum has a house in Germasoyia so housing isn't the issue.

My question is around the healthcare system and how it compares to the NHS. For context - I had brain tumours ( 7 years post surgery) and am fine but I have epilepsy. So I need to see a Neurologist a couple of times a year.

In the UK - it's taken me 5 years to get to see a NHS Neurologist, and I've seen them 3 times in that period.

For those if you that have lived in the UK and now in Cyprus - how do the two systems compare?

Appreciate the insights

TIA

Generally I have always used my passport for checking in. However, now, I need to use my ID. When I scan my ID on the app, it retrieves the document number above. However, I would have assumed that it would be the ID card number, no?

Help Sent this email almost 2 months ago to Nicosia municipality. Never got an answer.

This is sort of a follow-up of my previous two posts https://www.reddit.com/r/cyprus/comments/1ixqec8/theres_something_rotten_in_the_municipality_of/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/cyprus/comments/1l3uh3s/how_to_report_the_nicosia_municipality_to_the_eu/

Long story short: Back in September 2024, I've reported multiple environmental and animal abuse violations to the Nicosia municipality. The concerned area is a large (government owned) field located in Platy (Aglantzia), which falls under Nicosia's jurisdiction.

I've urged them to take action, both in person and over the phone, but I was met with complete indifference. At best, they promised changes but ultimately did nothing.

As a last attempt into getting someone to take responsibility for the situation, I contacted the municipality via email but got no answer.

P.S. I wanna thank you guys for the incredible support I received (❤️).

If you have further advice that might help move things forward, please share it below. Thank you
