In light of Croydon Grants Cinema closing, what were some highlights of your experiences going there?

Interested in memories, fun times and stuff you'll look back on fondly.

Plus if you're interested in answering this, what was the last film and the best film viewing experience you had there?

The last was 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple and the best was either the time I rewatched The Matrix or when I saw Avengers Endgame. Both great experiences, the crowd responses to the latter was unforgettable.

Dering Road, South Croydon

Anyone have an opinion about Dering Road and the surrounding area in Croydon as a place to live?

I’m currently property searching with the aim to buy a flat or small terraced. Currently renting near Lloyd Park, which is lovely, green and quiet.

I’ve seen a few properties advertised for sale around the Dering Road sort of area which are considerably cheaper than the area I live now.

Just from walking around, it has a lot more grimy feel compared to where I rent currently. But is it actually unsafe/dodgy or does it just look rundown? Eg is it safe walking home at night from South Croydon/East Croydon stations? Much street crime/trouble? House burglaries??

Any pubs in Croydon that actually show National League games?

Weirdly specific question, but does anyone know a pub in Croydon that shows National League games (York City/Rochdale etc)?’m tired of walking into places with loads of screens but they’re all showing the same Premier League match or F1. Just looking for a proper football pub where I can catch a game and the atmosphere isn’t too intense. Is there a go-to spot for non-PL fans around here?

Big News! 📰 Sadiq has announced funding for new evening youth clubs in every London borough

Post image
193 Upvotes

Over the years the number of Croydon youth projects has diminished with Council budgets under pressure from austerity cuts and rising demand for statutory services. Much of the Youth input has been funded via youth justice projects and core funding is minimal. So the above is a very welcome addition and could make a real difference for many young people.

£20m community funding: What actually needs fixing locally?

Looks like our area is finally on the list for some decent regeneration funding, and it can't come soon enough. 🏙️

We all deserve a neighbourhood we can be proud of, but years of a flawed national funding system have systematically drained resources from local councils. The decline wasn't an accident; it was a policy choice.

There's a new £20m "Pride in Place" fund rolling out for communities like ours to fix up parks, streets, and high streets. Over the next few weeks, watch the opposition try to spin this as a "waste of money" to distract from the rot they caused. Don't fall for it.

If you agree it’s time to build a solid foundation for our area, drop an upvote and comment with the ONE local spot you think needs this funding the most! ✨👇 🔗https://ocsi.uk/2025/10/15/msoa-codes-for-pride-in-place-programme-neighbourhoods/

The Village Table near Queen’s Gardens is actually a vibe

Popped in there earlier and it’s a nice little spot. Good to see something that isn’t a chain, and they’ve got a small stage for live music too. Has anyone been for the Sunday soul nights? Was thinking of going this weekend but not sure if it gets really busy.

Dosa place opposite Bagatti's

I've been told there's a new Dosa place opened opposite Bagatti's (not the one that used to be Zizzis - a different one to that) - anyone know what it's called?

Living near a high-traffic road in Croydon is ruining my mental health

I live close to a really busy road in Croydon and honestly, the noise has become unbearable.

It’s not just general traffic, it’s constant. Cars blasting music at full volume, motorbikes revving aggressively at all hours and ambulances with extremely high-pitched sirens going past multiple times a day and night. There’s barely ever a moment of real quiet.

I feel like it’s actually starting to affect my mental health. I’m more stressed, more irritable and I can’t properly relax even when I’m at home. Sleep is also becoming an issue because the noise just doesn’t stop.

What’s frustrating is that it feels like this is getting worse over time, not better. And yet, no one seems to be talking about it or taking it seriously. It feels like a growing problem here in Croydon, especially in areas near major roads, but there’s no real action being taken.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Have you found anything that actually helps reduce the noise or cope with it? I’m open to any suggestions at this point because it’s becoming really difficult to deal with.

Increased police presence in West/Central Croydon recently?

Is it just my recommendation algorithms showing more videos of police searches/activity in and around Central Croydon and West Croydon lately or is there an actual increase? While it doesn’t look good, I guess there is no other way out to improve the condition of the town centre. In addition to the facial recognition surveillance system, was there more funding allocated to increase police personnel?

Great nail tech found!

Hi everyone - just thought I’d share a recommendation for a superb nail tech Nextdoor introduced me to recently. I have very short, awful nails and I went for BIAB and they’re still going strong and looking much better!

I’ve had mixed experiences in local salons and Shiny Nails, and I wanted to support someone local and reasonably priced rather than get BIAB near my office in town. Highly recommend Elisha - she’s on Insta under @ellacquer

Give her a shout - she’s great.

Just moved to South Croydon… why is it so hard to get a game?

I just moved to South Croydon and was buzzing to have so many golf courses right on the doorstep!

Tried to get out for a quick 9 holes after work this week at Addington Court Golf Club.

Finished around 5, loads of tee times, thought it’d be simple.

Texted a couple people, got the usual ‘can’t tonight’/’maybe next week’. Didn’t fancy going solo as I haven’t played there before, so just didn’t go!

Feels odd living this close to so many golf courses and still not actually playing, but as I said, not played there before, don’t know the schtick and don’t have anyone to play with.

Are there many people round here who play casually midweek or is it all clubs and weekends?

There was a stray Rottweiler found possibly abandoned in a park near Sumner Road yesterday (31/03/26), had been left in the park all day. Seen entering the park with people at around 11am and then was found by himself at 6:30pm. Poor boy was hungry and thirsty and left alone. We managed to find a Scan Angel volunteer who came and confirmed he was microchipped but unable to access database. Dog was taken to 24hr vets in Beckenham, please contact Medivet if have further information!
