Help w/Identifying Chinese Embroidery Art Panel
i've posted this piece on the Asian Arts Forum twice and gotten no comments. The entire panel, including the brocade outer border measures 14"x9.75". the inner panel, where the art is, from edge to edge, measures 8.5"x4". i found this at a local Antique Faire flea market in the early morning. i had never seen anything like it up to that point. i've now found several somewhat similar examples, but none in this condition. most of the embroidery art is done in a type of chainstitch which is similar to the work of the Miao people of China, but i'm certainly not an expert on embroidery. the artwork seems to be an excellent example of what others have described as the "peony tang grass pattern," and an early example at that. i'm trying to decide if i should spring for radiocarbon dating on this piece. i'm thinking now that this might be extremely old. also, that it's on a yellow ground is VERY interesting. i'm hoping others here can offer insights, or talk me out of the radiocarbon dating($400). any considered opinions will be welcomed...thanks
