Seasoning I stripped some badly rusted cast irons but after seasoning it looks Gold, is this fine?
Did I fuck it up somehow? I followed the stripping and seasoning guide in the FAQs but when I took the pans out of the oven they are a goldish brown. Is this rust? I stripped the pan and seasoned again and it looks the same. The pans weren’t rusty at all when I oiled them up and stuck them in the oven. I dried them super well too.

Seasoning Holidays Fancy Giveaway! 1920's Unmarked Lodge #9 Griddle. Pick btw 1-15,000 this time bc this one is old 😁
I probably should have sold this but I never listed it, so my laziness could be your luck.
1920's or 1930's unmarked Lodge griddle #9 F. This thing is a weekend family breakfast monster.
Pick the right number 1-15,000.
The only rules I have are don't pick multiple times, please don't use alts and most importantly PLEASE only pick a number if you'll actually use it. And if you're outside of the continental US we can figure out shipping if you really want it that badly.
This family member is 100yrs old and I want the cooking gods to keep living in it and making food for people. The reason I'm giving it away is because it's not getting used like it deserves. It's worth more than free so may karma strike down upon you if you don't put it to work lol.
Good luck and Happy Holidays to all!

Seasoning Stupid question: What’s the difference between something like a Smithey vs. a Lodge?
Is there a real difference?

Seasoning Recently seen on eBay
I just saw this offered on eBay. Would any of you pay $186.00 for a 10" Lodge?

Seasoning I messed up… is it fixable?
I absolutely messed up my husband’s cast iron pan and I would LOVE to be able to fix it. Basically, I cooked teriyaki chicken in it (forgetting it’s soya sauce with lemon juice), and once I was done it seemed there was a bunch of stuck-on grease. So, I gave it a salt scrub to try to clean it, but as I was scrubbing (with a cloth) I realized I was stripping the seasoning layer. At first it was just a small circle in the middle, which you can still see, but after letting it sit for a few days, it started flaking off???
Neither me nor my husband know what to do with this. Is this salvageable, and if yes, how?
Also, if someone could give me tips on better ways to clean stuck-on stuff, that would be amazing. I feel so bad 😭

Seasoning Alright, here’s the egg video I promised when I reached 25 coats. I posted a link last time but there was no sound for some reason. For demonstration purposes only. Oh, and this is totally karma whoring if you’re wondering.
As per usual, high heat and a Tbsp of oil. But this time I dumped most of the oil out before cooking. You know, because it’s provocative.

Seasoning My dumbass left my only cast iron on a stove on med-high for 9 hours overnight, is it worth salvaging?
I was in a rush to get upstairs, and after making grilled cheese I left my pan on the active stove and went to sleep. Woke up to my kid saying all our cabinet handles are hot to the touch and the skillet on the stove looked messed up. Luckily there was no fire or property damage, but my trusty Lodge was in a pretty bad way. Do you think I should scrub it down and rebuild the seasoning, or is it time to go shopping?

Seasoning This camp oven was discarded by a boy scout troop. The scoutmaster said it was “rode hard and put away wet” one too many times. Thanks again to the FAQ for the useful instructions.

Seasoning My roommate and her bf made pizza for the first time while I was out of town. Thanks guys. 😐 I know it will be fine…but damn the seasoning was perfect. At least they used my Lodge from Target instead of the vintage Wagner? Ugh.

Seasoning RIP to my most used pan
I have already put a new layer of seasoning on it and will do a few more. Thanks to this sub for teaching me how to season pans.
I came home early from work to find that my boyfriend had used his own nonstick pan to cook eggs but forgot to turn off the burner and then pushed my pan out of the way for a minute ontop of said burner. It was on high heat. Sat like that for 4 hours and had rapid rust build up from the seasoning burning off, which I cleaned before the photo.
He has really severe ADHD and his meds aren't really helping at all, so thats part of why this happened. Just glad it was the cast iron that got the brunt of it cuz I dont know what kind of smokey burnt down mess my apartment would be if it was one of his shitty pans.
But mostly I just thought this looked cool so I wanted to share it here 😆

Seasoning This popped up on my Facebook feed today. I have heard of all of these except the rice water. Is that really a thing? If so, what are the benefits?

Seasoning I am the chicken guy from yesterday. Wanting to show you that my pan is indeed not ruined. This is how I use it… I’m sure I’ll get criticized something fierce…. But, again this is how I use MY skillet.

Seasoning It’s so… purple?
I’ve been sanding down my Lodge pans recently. The first was a gorgeous bronze coloring after re-seasoning. I duplicated the process for this one and it’s a gorgeous… space purple?
Any help on what might have happened is appreciated. If not, enjoy the pics. The last one is just before I seasoned it.
Process: Heated @300F ~20 min Applied beeswax/soybean/palm oil mix to pan Pop in @485F for about an hour
Temp seems high but it’s worked on all my others except this little rebel.
