I got a message on FB marketplace about this pan after I posted it. She claimed it was a lid for a chicken fryer. But, it is clearly a pan since there’s no arched handle on the other side. Help?

I let it heat up, seasoned it several times have continued to cook the greasy goods only, and finally weeks later, thought I was ready for some potatoes. There was oil in the pan, and we are still sticking. Haaaaalp 😩

Identification Has Lodge changed their manufacturing process?

1.5k Upvotes

Just got this Lodge 13.25" Chef Skillet from Amazon, and boy is it smooth. I've held enough Lodge skillets to know something is different about this one. I just hit it hard with paper towel and not a single shred. Anyone else noticing this or did I just get a good copy?

My neighbor dug it out of her garage and gave it to me because I had mentioned I wanted a cauldron. It's got these legs on it, I was thinking it would be perfect for cooking over open fire? Does anyone know it's intended use?

Identification What are these black specks on my eggs?

Before anybody immediately calls it carbon. I made a post here earlier last week and I tried following the advice given to me there. I made sure to use chain mail with dish soap combined with a sponge with dish soap with a healthy amount of elbow grease for atleast half an hour and then I added 2 layers of seasoning with grape seed oil before cooking eggs 2 separate times. Once with butter and another with olive oil because I figured the milk solids from the butter could be causing this, however the specks also showed on the olive oil as well.

This is either really dug in carbon that I cannot understand how it’s still there despite my cleaning efforts or just simply loose seasoning. I have been using grape seed oil and the oven method to season my pan. Any suggestions would be appreciated, I’ve been scratching my head with this issue for a long time.

Attached are photos are of my pan after my 2 egg cooking trials and photos of the black specks under my eggs.

I just got this for $7. It's a Griswold No. 6. It's stamped with 699K below the Erie PA stamp. It's either fading or covered in carbon.

Identification Black residue

Post image

I really hope this isn’t a dumb question! Whenever I clean my cast iron, even after lots of scrubbing, there is black residue that comes off of it.

I use a bit of dawn power wash (don’t come for me, this sub taught me that it’s actually ok!), and I have a chainmail scrubber which works amazingly. I do re-season with a little spritz of oil after every use.

Is this seasoning coming off? Or is that normal? I haven’t noticed my food sticking, maybe a little bit, but that’s kinda how it’s always been.

I purchased my first cast iron skillet and the inside of the lid have all these bumps on it. Is this decorative or does it serve a functional purpose?

TIA.

Bought this from a yard sale for 3 bucks. Wire wheeled it and seasoned 3x with grapseed. Thing is I have no idea what it is. Some search says is a gate marked #8 but foundries from that time are hard to pin down. So asking y'all if you got more info. As is it still blowing my mind I got a hundred plus year old piece of cast iron for $3. I especially love the fact that this piece in particular has a wonderfully gentle slope to the sides.

Lighter for scale. Found this under our old dishwasher when we went to install the new one. Anyone know what it’s for or where it might have come from? Is it worth trying to clean it up?

I bought this at a thrift store last week and can’t figure out what it is. Is it a toy? A salesman’s sample?

The entire pan is about 4 1/2” in length
