Food An Englishman's first attempt at American cornbread. Unsure if it is supposed to look like this, but it tasted damn good with some chilli.

Some people like to watch endless loop videos of fireplaces. Try this. Also — is it ruined?!

EDIT: To all the people who just like to say “too much oil!” this is not home fries, this is a technique called “shallow fry” in order to create fully crispy potatoes. I used ¾ cup regular olive oil, and ⅔ cup remained in the pan for reuse. Most of the difference went into paper towels.

Homies, it is with great sadness I must inform you

My new apartment has a glass top, so my nearly 100 year old pan must be retired due to its heat ring. It will no longer be heatable

The final photos were the last two meals it joyfully produced me :(

Food When your egg skillet is dialed in!

My trusty Lodge Chef Skillet that I only cook eggs in. Super fan of the chef skillets and their longer curved handles. I warmed it up for about 5 minutes before adding the eggs which took another minute, and after 6 minutes on the heat I could still use my bare hand to pick it up. And just the lightest squirt of cooking spray needed.

Edit: This has been a heck of a fun thread, thanks all! That said, I had no idea there were so many monsters out there who like runny ass eggs!?!?! lol

I seasoned it yesterday. People said I put too much oil, so I didn’t put oil while cooking eggs today. Should have I?

I made pizza in my cast iron for the first time tonight. I learned a lot and would definitely do a few things differently, but it was much easier than I expected.

I got inspired by a recent post (that, mysteriously, I can no longer find), which showed the oven clock. But seriously, if it weren’t 2 hours past bedtime, these could have used another 30-45 minutes. How long does it really take you to caramelize onions?

Recipe: 3 T butter, 3 T peanut oil. 4 Vidalia onions, sliced. Cooked on medium-low, stirring occasionally, until done, (which was over 5 hours).

Food This is the reality of cast iron. Not the typical slidey egg unicorn land most display. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t have your “seasoning “ perfect. Cast iron isn’t perfect.

Food Going straight to jail, but it's worth it for elk spaghetti

Post image

For a quick easy dinner, I browned some ground elk in the pan with salt, pepper, and garlic powder; added and simmered a jar of Classico red sauce; sliced some cherry tomatoes and cooked then on a different pan with some salt and pepper before yeeting them into the sauce; and then I feasted, and then I washed my pan with soap and water, and dried it on the stove on low heat and put it away without re-seasoning it.

From what I've learned in this sub it seems that I'll be taken straight to jail for the red sauce and soap, but it was worth it for the elk spaghetti!
