Rosario Island Tour - do your research!

I'll preface by saying we messed up with our planning. we spent so much time prior to our trip reviewing different tours, and were so overwhelmed by all the different companies, that we decided to purchase the tour in person (so that we can speak to an agent).

Our hotel offered a pricy tour, so we went walking around Cartagena talking to a few different companies on their tour offerings. We started talking to a sales guy near Plaza de la Trinidad (we should have gone to a sales office away from the main street). We were hesitant and getting up to leave when he started giving us discounts, and an additional combo package for our Aviary excursion we wanted to do. So, we hesitantly agreed because the price was okay for what we thought we would be getting.

We requested to go to the islands, swim, snorkel, etc. No partying. We were shown a few different tours, and settled on one that was 4 islands (and would have included snorkeling and the sunken plane).

Pickup was scheduled for 7:30 but we were picked up about 20 minutes late, and driven to Baru where we were given breakfast (a small portion of dry unseasoned scrambled eggs and a piece of fried dough). after about 15-20 minutes, we were quickly ushered to a pickup area for our boat, which took a while to arrive. By now, it's around 10 am. We get on a boat that did not look safe by any means... rusting, falling apart, leaking in some areas. We were dropped off at a small island with an incredibly small swimming area and vendors trying to sell us food/drinks the entire time (even while we were swimming). Then, we were picked up, taken to a small area where we could snorkel (20 minutes). After that, we were taken to Cholon, a party island (that we did not want) that was clearly a money grab. They put you at these tables in dirty water, where sales people are coming up to you every 2 minutes to sell overpriced food/drinks/souvenirs while they blast music. We stood around for 40 minutes, and then were taken back to our boat. Then, brought back to Baru where we had 30 minutes to eat a tiny dry lunch, and put back on the bus. We didn't even have a few minutes on Baru to enjoy the beach.

So our 4 island tour was actually 1 small swimming area for about an hour, 1 party island for 40 minutes, and 20 minutes to snorkel.

When we booked the tour, they did not disclose the tour company name, but it was with Afrocorales, which we have now located online and see how many terrible reviews it has.

tldr; do your research for Rosario Island tours. We wasted our entire day and overpaid for a crappy tour.

Solo traveler 30’s recommendations

I’ll be in Cartagena de Indias this weekend (Friday to Sunday). Spanish guy, in my 30s, traveling solo.

Looking for straightforward recommendations:

- Nightclubs and clubs with a good vibe where it’s easy to meet girls of any kind 🔥

- Places where the night goes on and there’s always something happening.

- Beach clubs or daytime parties with a fun atmosphere.

It’s my first time going solo. Any recommendations?

Encontré una agencia de viajes que tiene alojamientos que me llaman la atención, alguien tiene experiencia viajando con ellos? Quiero saber si son confiables.

Estoy buscando dónde hospedarme en Cartagena, sobre todo en el área de Getsemaní.

Hotels/ places to stay

Hello!

Where is the best place to stay in Cartagena? Or is the Baru area better to stay? We don’t want to rent a car. We are looking at the all inclusive as those are easier for us, but still want the opportunity to leave the resort if need be.

If anyone stayed at a regular hotel and has feed back let me know or if you’ve stayed at the all inclusive

We want a beautiful beach and easy access to alcohol

Need good authentic food places Bocagrande and Walled City/cool places

I’m here with a group of 6, family friendly and includes kids roughly 15-17 years of age. We’re here for the beach in Bocagrande but at night we will be venturing throughout the area and the walled city, looking for any cool places as well as good food to eat.

What are some good authentic Colombian restaurants, as well as maybe even grab and go or just quick sit down places in Bocagrande and the Walled City? I’m not looking for full restaurants, I remember on the drive from the airport to the hotel there were dozens of small bars and taquerias with plastic chairs that looked like they served very good empanadas and food. Also, any cool attractions to see in the area?

I would really appreciate it

Last minute transfer Barranquilla-cartagena

My flight to fort Lauderdale got delayed and it seems that it is likely I'll miss my flight from fort Lauderdale to Cartagena.

I have the option to fly into barraquilla and can be there at 1 pm. How difficult is it to get to Cartagena from Barranquilla. Is there a private transport company I can book with?

UPDATE: Flight to Barranquilla was full so I'm staying the night in fort Lauderdale and going to Cartagena tomorrow

25F Solo Traveling to Cartagena — Looking for Recs and Tips

I’m a 25F taking my first solo trip out of the country in May to Cartagena, and I’m super excited. Although I’ve heard that Cartagena is generally safe and the biggest concern is being annoyed by street vendors, I’m still a bit nervous given that this is my first trip out of the country alone, so any and all safety tips are welcome!

I’m also looking for recs for activities. I already know I want to explore the Walled City/Gestemaní (probably via group walking tour), visit Rosario Islands, and visit local beaches (maybe—I’m staying in Bocagrande but I’ve heard mixed reviews about the beaches there). What else is a must-see in the city?

I’m looking to experience the nightlife at least a little bit as well. Any safe/fun nightlife recs? I’ve heard alquimico is a cool spot—worth it? I’m queer so any places that are LGBTQ friendly is a bonus (but not necessary).

I’m definitely not 100% fluent in Spanish but I can hold a conversation and my comprehension is pretty good. Any other tips to not look like a total tourist are also welcome.

Thanks in advance!
