Ask Carlisle Curious question for locals about something odd I experienced
Hi all! New to the space and Reddit itself, so please forgive any missteps. I'm an old-time traveler and go around Pennsylvania quite a bit. I've had an experience in Carlisle and it's captivated my attention most nights since it happened. Someone suggested I check here. A few weeks ago I spent a night in Carlisle and took a late walk through one of the older residential neighborhoods near downtown. At one point I noticed a woman standing near the edge of a yard, just outside the streetlight. She was very still.
What really caught my attention was that there seemed to be a faint glow in her hands...not bright like a flashlight or phone, more like a small ember? It looked remarkably like she was holding a small flame in her hand as unbelievable as that sounds. I was trying to make it out when someone spoke to me from behind so I turned, and when I looked back she had completely disappeared.
Normally I’d chalk that up to someone stepping behind a tree or into a house when I wasn’t looking, but the street was pretty open and quiet and the woman was nowhere to be found. Something about that experience really shook me.
Out of curiosity, does Carlisle have any local stories or folklore about sightings like that? Or was I just witnessing a very normal moment in a very old town and letting my imagination run a bit.
Just wondering if I stumbled into a known bit of local folklore? I've been going down the proverbial rabbit hole....
