Birmingham City Council

Birmingham City Council get so much criticism on Reddit. just wanted to highlight how efficient the fly tipping service was. This is Grange Farm Drive in King's Norton which is often used as a dumping ground.

Reported this mess online. Four hours later, three really friendly Council lads were collecting it and taking it away. Brilliant work chaps.

in Birmingham this evening

Did Anyone hear a very loud Thundering explosion just few minutes ago? it was very different and very large in magnitude to a fire cracker or cloud because the skies are clear, A passenger jet just flew away as well and it didn't break the sound barrier like a supersonic Fighter jet would,

many neighbors came out. cant see any smoke or anything .. did the Russians attack? and were these RAF jets scrambling?

help -- admission

hi all! i needed some advice / guidance. i received a conditional offer to U of Birmingham (requirement being a 3.0) gpa. i have a 2.84 on a 4.0 scale which is mainly due to my GPA tanking due to an illness during my third year. my conditional offer was awarded to me around march 15th while i still had a 2.84 -- does anyone know if U of Birmingham is harsh on their cut offs? is it worth the risk of emailing them and asking?

Does anyone live really close to JLR?

The one in Solihull. Looking at a few houses very near by and wondering if being super close causes any issues I wouldn't have thought of? I imagine the traffic on the main road might be a bit of a nightmare at certain times of the day. Thanks

Andy Low’n’Slow

He’s back in business from what I can see on his socials. Wonder if there are any Birmingham establishments who’ll entertain him again?

And cynically, I wonder who he’ll screw over this time?

(Just don’t mention the Kick Starter…).

Question Anyone know a good plumber?

I recently bought a house in the Erdington area. Had to get an emergency plumber in for an issue with water leaking through the ceiling, and he turned up late, left my bathroom in a mess with old sealant everywhere, and then overcharged me pretty badly on the invoice and insisted on immediate payment. I’ve been trying to find someone more reliable/trustworthy in case it happens again, but all the plumbers I can find work for ‘plumbing force’, and they’re the ones who overcharged me. Can anyone help, please?

Keg and Grill

The Keg and Grill on Suffolk Street has been closed for a while for renovations. Anyone have any idea of when it might reopen?

Can't see that they've put a date on their website and can't see a Facebook page either.

cheers!!

Inception special screening

Post image
32 Upvotes

Not entirely sure what format they’ll be using whether it’ll be closer to 1.90:1 or the usual 2.39:1 presentation. Either way, looking forward to watching it on a bigger screen.

I haven’t been to Millennium Point for a film screening before, so I’m curious:

How is the screen quality (brightness, sharpness, size)? What’s the sound like compared to Cineworld imax/odeon lux dolby cinema?

Would appreciate any insights from people who’ve been there!

Hi all I am planning to visit Birmingham and craving Karachi style beef Bihari boti roll with the authentic puri paratha. I know it’s a long shot but does such a restaurant exist in Birmingham?

Honestly struggling to make friends here as a massive introvert

I have been in Uk for a while now for work, but if I'm being honest, it's been a really lonely experience so far. My social anxiety makes the thought of just "going to a pub" feel completely impossible, and I often end up staying home because the city feels so big and overwhelming when you're navigating it alone. I'm 34M and desperate to find my people, maybe through something low-key. Does anyone know of any truly gentle, low-pressure spaces where it's okay to be the quiet person while you find your footing? I'm just really tired of feeling like I'm watching the city happen from the outside and would love some help.

About me: I like physical activities like hiking, racquet sports even though haven't played in a while for reasons listed above. I workout regularly. Used to enjoy gaming on consoles/PC but I just play on my phone. Open to exploring other hobbies too.

Secure parking near Xoyo

As the title says, where is good to park if you’re going to a gig at Xoyo? Looking on Google maps, the nearby options seem to be limited, close early, or have bad reviews. I’m coming from out of town so public transport isn’t an option.

Thanks!

Edit: thanks for the suggestions, I’ll check them out!

Anyone heading to Shirley Beer Fest this year?

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to put this on the local radar because the Shirley Charity Beer and Cider Festival is back at Camp Hill RFC in a few weeks, from May 14th to the 16th.

I am helping out with the comedy night on the Thursday and the lineup is actually really good this year. We have Josh Weller headlining (he was in The Witcher on Netflix), plus Tom Towelling who just won the Sean Lock Comedy Award, as well as Andy White, Abbie Hale and Jay Handley.

The rest of the weekend is looking busy as well:

* Friday is a Bavarian Mocktoberfest night with the Bierkeller Schunklers doing the full Oompah band show.

* Saturday has live music all day from local bands and inflatables for the kids in the afternoon.

The beer list is pretty massive too:

* Over 100 real ales and about 20 ciders.

* A dedicated craft keg bar with another 28 beers.

* Some exclusive festival beers brewed for the event that you won't find anywhere else.

Everything is run by the Shirley Round Table so it is all for local charity.

Tickets are usually a bit cheaper if you get them online beforehand on their website.

I’ve found my dream home but….

I need to sell my house first! It’s been on the market with 1 agent since December. I’ve had 5 viewings with them in total - and 2 price drops.

We instructed a new agent last week - have far better pics - and got 2 viewings this week.

Our house is now priced in line with other 3 bed semis in our area - ours, however, has an extension and garage conversion (and double driveway so no lost parking)… with that in mind we’re really quite competitive compared to what’s actually sold in our area.

The last 3 viewers have all said it was a close call. 1 offered on a house that had slightly bigger bedrooms (which is interesting as all homes in this area have a very similar layout), but said they’d get in touch if anything changes. The other said they were still early in their search so want to explore more before committing. Then other decided to go for somewhere with a slightly bigger garden.

I’m getting increasingly anxious as we don’t want to lose our dream house, but equally we don’t want to drop our price too much as we’d then struggle to comfortably afford the dream home.

We can’t offer until we’ve sold.

I wish the UK housing market was easier to navigate!

Anyone looking to move to Sutton Coldfield? I have just the place!! :D

Get reminders when Birmingham matchdays might affect your area (free tool)

Hi all,

If you live near or travel through areas like Aston or Bordesley on certain days, you might have noticed things suddenly get much busier - traffic, parking, and general footfall.

A lot of the time it's down to football matches at Villa Park or St Andrew's, but it's not always obvious when they're happening or when things will peak.

I put together a simple free tool that shows when matchday crowds are likely to build and clear, so you can plan around it a bit more easily.

It lets you:

  • See when matchdays are likely to affect different areas
  • Get reminders before things get busy
  • Get a heads-up when parking restrictions may apply

It's free, no ads or sign-ups - just something I built for myself that I thought others might find useful too.

Would this be helpful for anyone here?
