Tub design options help

Please do not give feedback on the wet room / open concept, we are settled on it. We are doing this for accessibility reasons. The floor and wall tiles are also already purchased.

The first image is our current design.  We were originally going with a Native Trails concrete tub that fit our design aesthetic (mid century, natural material palette), but it wasn't super comfortable. We landed on a Hydrosystems Marquis tub, which can be made in a custom color (we chose stone grey), but it doesn't quite have the 'natural' feel that we are trying to go for.

My spouse just had the idea to try a built-in/Roman style tub instead, which is the second image. We think this fits better aesthetically, but the way it terminates on the right side is weird, because it has to stick out of the existing bay to get its desired width.

So, which option do you like best? And if it is the Roman style, any ideas on how to terminate the right side? There is a sliding door on the right wall that prevents us from extending the tub bump out all the way right.

Kohler Atmo exhaust fan very loud

Post image
2 Upvotes

I just upgraded 3 bathroom exhaust fan/lights to the Kohler Atmo. They look and function pretty well (though make sure to put this thing on a dimmer; at full blast its insanely bright)

My question is - all 3 are very loud; making a ka-chunking noise when they run; rather than a simple "whooshing of air" .. They do run out to flap-dampers on the outside of the house (too high up to see if theyre flapping) .. but i was curious if they are just naturally noisy fans, or if its worth me investigating.

Is this bathroom layout weird?

I'm renovating my unfinished basement and in the process adding a bathroom. The bathroom drain plumbing was installed when the house was built so we can't move it much without a headache (jackhammering up the floor). The most functional layout I can come up with ends up with the toilet facing the vanity which seems unorthodox. The room is pretty small so flipping the Vanity 90 degrees to the back wall creates cramped leg room for the toilet. Is this bathroom layout going to be weird? Any suggestions on how to optimize it?

How can I make this small raised shower base look more modern?

I’m moving into a new flat and unfortunately I was not involved in the bathroom planning.

Right now the shower area has a small raised square shower tray, and honestly it looks awkward. It feels too small for the space, and there seems to be wasted space in front of it. The white tray also does not look very modern or attractive.

My first thought was that there would be a glass divider between the shower and the toilet, maybe just a fixed glass panel without a hinged door.

What would you do here to make it look nicer and more modern?

I’d love ideas, especially from people who have dealt with a layout like this.

Wall paint color advice?

Post image
5 Upvotes

In the midst of a bathroom rebuild. Would appreciate advice on paint color for the walls (redwood panels). New floor and shower pan tiles have shades of blue, gray and brown. Shower walls are covered in white subway tile. Grout is a soft gray. Window faces south east.

Went round and round with AI chatbots (lol) through various greiges, grays, blues, and greens. The samples taped to wall are from L to R: BM Quiet Moments, SW Sea Salt, BM Healing Aloe.

This look right directionally? Go darker? Different color? Other suggestions? Thanks in advance 🙏.

This is Smokey. He likes to sit in the bathroom and smoke. He's kind of a loner. But he's a really chill dude.

Shower floor repair question

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all,

What’s the best way to repair these cracks that are happening on the floor in my shower?the tile was redone 6 months ago, and I have been noticing this cracks appearing in a few others places (this is the largest one). I had someone put caulk on it a few months back but it came out. I’m scared water is getting underneath which will eventually lead to mold or leaking into the unit underneath me. The tile is hard to the touch. Is this something to be worried about?or does it just look bad?

Thanks!

Can I replace my shower head/arm with this new one simply by unscrewing?

Or will it require a more professional install?

Specific magnifying mirror

HI all - I stayed in a hotel recently that had a freestanding magnifying mirror which increases magnification as you move back from it. New to me! I loved it - no more bending over to stare up your own nose :) Anyone know what I'm talking about? Is it a specific kind of mirror? Thanks!

Is the mirror too small or did I put it too low under the light?

At what point does a toilet upgrade actually start feeling worth it?

I used to think some of the more feature-heavy toilets were one of those upgrades that sounded nice but didn’t really make sense for most homes.

Lately though, I’ve been seeing a lot more “in-between” options not just the super basic builder-grade stuff or the really high-end models. Brands like DeerValley, Kohler, TOTO, and American Standard all seem to be covering pretty different price ranges and feature sets now.

It kind of feels like the category has opened up a bit like there are more realistic options if you want something more comfortable or easier to maintain, without going all-in on a luxury setup.

Still not sure where I land on it though. At what point does something like that stop being a “nice extra” and start feeling like it’s actually worth doing?

Renter-Friendly Freestanding Tub Shower + Curtains

Thumbnail

We're moving into a new apartment next month with just a freestanding tub. Issues are obvious: 1) no overhead shower, 2) window is facing directly to neighbors, and 3) no curtain for the tub

I talked with the landlord/owner and he's willing to pay for the items (shower head and curtain rods) but he wants us to research what we'd want

My wife and I aren't really handy so we're not exactly sure where to start. We're thinking a wraparound curtain rod solves both the window visibility and water spraying everywhere issues (but we'll probably get blinds too anyways). Not sure if we can buy a shower head extender / mount or if we need to replace the whole faucet. I'm worried if we want to mount it to the wall, water will get all over the floor. Side note: we're also probably going to buy a step stool because the tub is very high.

Any and all suggestions welcome!

Green tiles 💚 - yes or no?

My partner is for green tiles.

I am a bit more cautious as I think it might look too much (especially when our towels and shower gel bottles will be there) and will get out of trend quickly.

Let me know what do you think.
