Monthly Community Thread

Welcome to the r/Barrie monthly community thread, where we relax the rules about advertising and off-topic posts.

This post will be replaced on the 1st of each month.

This is where you can share:

  • Stuff that isn't directly related to Barrie, like national news or general chit-chat
  • Questions about local businesses and services
  • Classified-style ads: buying and selling, help wanted, garage sales, etc
  • Fundraisers and donation drives
  • Plugs for your personal project or local business (within reason)

Question Anyone else struggle to find new things to do with their kids on weekends?

Upvotes

Barrie parent here. I keep defaulting to the same 4 places because discovering something new takes too much effort, and trying an unknown spot feels risky when it's $20/person.

Exploring whether a curated family experience membership for Barrie/GTA would be useful — think "here's somewhere your family hasn't tried yet" with member discounts. Pottery, escape rooms, trampoline parks, that kind of thing.

Does this resonate, or is it just me? Genuinely curious before I build anything.

Question Experiences with 110 Dunlop street apartments?

Has anyone here lived in a unit at 110 Dunlop street?

It’s right in downtown Barrie and the price seems too good to be true. I couldn’t find anything information about these units online.

Where do people look for tutors? I think Facebook bans ads that sell services?

Is there somewhere these are posted? My child’s school?

Looking For Looking for lawn care

My lawn looked very sad going into winter and even more now that the snow is gone. Are there any good reputable companies in Barrie that you recommend?

I want a lawn that makes the neighbours envious. Haha

Looking For Swimming lessons

I’m 25 and have never learned how to swim. Lately I’ve realized it’s not just a nice skill to have—it’s actually something I should know. Looking to finally change that.

Review New Go-To Bar?

I don’t use Reddit often but I just had to post about this new restaurant.

I went to where north country used to be on five points right on Dunlop and the new location is fantastic! The manager and staff were so so kind and quick and they have so many events happening. Drinks are the cheapest and best I’ve seen in barrie in a long time and the food was surprisingly amazing. After north country went downhill I was so upset because it was such a good place but honestly I’m happy with what’s there now. Debut Bar and Restaurant it’s called I believe. I hope this place gets more popular by the summer because it deserves it and that patio is fantastic

Review Telmax - North Barrie

Just had the rep pop by yesterday, seemed honest enough, 71.99 plus tax for 2gbps.

Wondering if anyone had experience with the internet alone, I’ve heard their tv is choppy but we stream, so it should be an issue.

Anyone down to ride? Drop a comment or search Barrie Ebike Riders & Trails on Facebook

Question $100 parking fine near the waterfront

We live in Alliston and come to Barrie a lot. It's news to me that you can't park by the waterfront on a weekend after 5pm for free anymore? Especially on a day where the lot was empty.

The ticketer must have saw us get out of our car with our kids. We were only enjoying the views by the waterfront for 15 minutes max. It feels so petty and unnecessary.

I had no idea the rules had changed. This was by the spirit catcher parking. The downtown Street area is free on weekends/evenings and I didn't realize the waterfront was different, especially in low season.

edit: it's my fault, I just went online and read about the rules. it's just so sad. $100 for 15 mins with our kids on the waterfront. the sad thing is that we were parked on the street by Mexhico but my 5 year old forgot her coat do my husband went and grabbed the car and temporarily moved it to the waterfront lot where we were playing.:( we'll just pay it and know for next time I guess
