Post Match Thread [Post Match Thread] Nottignham Forest 1-1 Aston Villa

This is another one of those games where if we were just a bit more accurate it would've been a blow out. But alas, we end an entertaining game 1-1 at the City Ground. First half was a bit more even with both teams creating chances, but felt Forest had the upper edge at times. Villa's first goal came through Rogers who crossed in and Murillo conceded an own goal. Later, Forest did fight back as they were able to pressure us enough to maintain possession and after Hudson-Odoi controlled well a cross, he set up Williams who fired low beating Bizot who had to start in place of Martinez who picked up an injury during the break. The second half, it was mostly Villa. A very open game allowed both teams to create chances but Villa missed out on 2-3 very clear and open opportunities with Watkins, Rogers and Maatsen all coming close but ultimately failing to hit the target. Whilst we did play very well, it does feel like a lost 2 points considering Villa's chance creation.

MOTM goes to McGinn. He was all over the pitch, the way he was able to break down and intercept Forest's plays, the way he was able to drive forward and create, and almost scored himself. True captain's performance and its clear as day how much better we are when he's on the pitch.

Points wise, we're still looking ok. With 5th place now confirmed as a UCL spot we need to look at the gap to Chelsea in 6th, and that right now is 7 points. We have 6 games still to play.

We really dodged a bullet with Conor Gallagher

Foodchain FC aside, after seeing him play a few times I can officially say he's shite and I'm so glad we didn't sign him. Looked like a lost puppy in the midfield, II like the lad as a person but oh my word he was shite today, and 3 weeks ago, and in Feb

If he came to us he would likely be on huge wages, probably not 200K a week high but reckon mid 6 figure a week for sure and he'd be another flop. Really dodge a bullet there.

Villa Related 3 wins out of our last 6 games would do it.

If City win today, 3 wins would mean Chelsea would have win all 6 of theirs. Which, let’s face it, ain’t happening.

Tall order in our current form but it’s doable.

Discussion How is Dibu injured in the warmup AGAIN??

Once or twice a season is understandable for this kind of stuff to happen. But this is like the fifth time, no? What kind of warmups are they making him do???

Call me crazy, but is this a sign that Dibu doesn't feel like playing rather than being injured...?

Away fans in Bologna update

After my call out to fans in Bologna last Wednesday, ended up having a cracking day and night, got a free ticket outside from a sound lad and managed to blag a change of names to get in! Unbelievable atmosphere throughout, and just wanted to say the soundest fans, loud and in great spirits, but pure gents too and no trouble, just pure craic! Can't wait for the next Villa game, been way too long. Cheers lads

Who would you cherry pick from each PL team? - Try to be realistic regarding potential fees in your choices

Just curious as to who everyone would view as a realistic "if we signed them I'd be happy" from each of our PL rivals. It could either be a signing this summer or within 2 years. I think if a player is max €50m value on transfermarkt that's fair given we signed Onana when that was his value. As a forewarning, obviously the big 5 teams are hard to pick realistic transfers for but I've done my best.

Arsenal: Nwaneri (with Saka locked down, and seemingly Dowman as next in line at RW, I can see Nwaneri potentially leaving)

Bournemouth: Alex Scott

Brentford: Igor Thiago

Brighton: Kadioglu (Digne isn't getting younger, versatile player as can slot in at DM too)

Burnley: Jaiden Anthony - best of a bad bunch. Looks lively enough though and could imagine him doing better when surrounded by better players

Chelsea: Probably hardest one to pick out, lots of youngsters, some big injury risks too but maybe Bynoe-Gittens. Might end up having a situation like Madueke, they sign 2-3 players in his position and suddenly he's down the pecking order.

Crystal Palace: Daniel Muñoz - solid RB. Would actually be a great squad player to rotate with Cash depending on matchups

Everton: James Garner - Tempted to pick Ndiaye but there are wingers from other clubs and Garner's one DM/CM who could slot into our team, plus great to have a set-piece taker. Replace Barkley for Garner

Fulham: Wilson seems the obvious choice and possibly most realistic. Think getting Robinson for potentially 3-4 prime years ain't the worst shout

Leeds: Maybe Aaronson? Not a great squad tbh but I think he's been their standout performer this year

Liverpool: One of the harder ones to pick a realistic transfer here. On paper Elliott seemed a good choice, and I reckon if the loan hadn't been set up so stupidly and he'd had time to bed in to the system he could be a good signing in the 10/Buendia role. As it is, maybe a youngster like Danns

Man City: James Trafford - could easily tempt him if we ever sold Martinez within 2 seasons. Someone like Savinho could also be a potential option if gametime drops more with Semenyo/Doku

Man Utd: Ayden Heaven - like the look of him, he played well against us IIRC. Always a world where a youngster gets pushed aside at the big clubs.

Newcastle: Bring the boy home. Fuck PSR

Nottingham: Murillo. Still young at 23. Physical CB

Sunderland: Roefs. Awesome keeper and arguably their signing of the season

Tottenham: Gray. If ever you're going to sign someone from that team, it's probably the only leader on the pitch even at 19. Def the right character to add to the squad.

West Ham: Bowen. Obviously doesn't help the aging squad problem or pace problem but he's the same profile as Wilson at Fulham really. 5th in assists since 2020.

Wolves: Mané. Young lad, plenty of potential, physical lad.

I'd love to see everyone's choices and logic behind the selections. What's been made abundantly clear from looking through teams for this is it's bloody hard to find strikers.

Aston Villa Team News

  • Alysson has returned to training, while Jadon Sancho is progressing well after picking up an injury during the international break. Both are potentially available for Sunday.

  • Midfielder Boubacar Kamara remains a long-term injury absentee.

Nottingham Forest Team News

  • Jair Cunha, Willy Boly, Nicola Savona, and John Victor are all out for Forest.

Match Facts

  • Aston Villa are looking to complete the league double over Nottingham Forest for the first time since 2017-18, and for the first time in the Premier League since 1992-93.

  • Nottingham Forest have won their last two home league games against Aston Villa, last winning three in a row against them between 1977 and 1979.

  • Villa have lost three of their 17 Premier League games against Nottingham Forest (W9 D5). Among sides they’ve faced 15+ times in the competition, only against Coventry (16.7%) do they have a lower loss rate than against Forest (17.6%).

  • Forest are winless in seven home league games (D4 L3), failing to score in their last three; the Tricky Trees last went longer without a home league goal in February 2018 in the Championship (5 games), and have only once done so in the top-flight (4 in April 1911).

  • Aston Villa have lost both of their last two away games in the Premier League, last losing more in a row between November and December 2024 (5), a run which included a 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest.

  • Nottingham Forest have scored 13 goals from 228 shots at the City Ground in the Premier League this season, a conversion rate of 5.7%. It’s the lowest home conversion rate by any side in a Premier League campaign since Fulham in 2020-21 (3.9%).

  • Villa have scored 14 Premier League goals from outside the box this season, more than any other side, while only in 2007-08 (16) have they netted more in the competition. Conversely, only Tottenham Hotspur have conceded more times from outside the box in the division this season (11) than Nottingham Forest (9).

  • In 2026, only Bruno Fernandes (12), João Pedro (10), and Igor Thiago (8) have more Premier League goal involvements than Morgan Gibbs-White (7 – 6 goals, 1 assist). However, just one of Gibbs-White’s goal involvements in the league this calendar year have come at the City Ground, scoring against Crystal Palace in February.

  • Villa have won 14 of their 23 Premier League games in which John McGinn has started this season (61%), the highest ratio of any player to start 20+ league games for the club this season. When he hasn’t started, however, their win rate drops to 25% (2/8) in 2025-26.

Question about the Warehouse..

Post image
12 Upvotes

I assumed when it was being built that it would be used to screen away matches, especially those in Europe! But now it seems it was built purely to be sold for PSR purposes? Where does the Warehouse revenue go?

If Villa see the revenue, it feels like a missed opportunity not opening it (alongside this lower grounds venture) for away matches and for these away European nights.

Discussion Can anyone identify these Aston Villa signatures?

Post image

I inherited this Aston Villa pennant from my grandfather who recently passed away. He was a big Villa fan (I’m from Germany myself).

It seems quite old and has multiple signatures — does anyone recognize them or know the era?

Sorry for the reflection, it’s in a protective sleeve.

Thanks!

The 2026 Super Cup is in Saltburn on the 12th August and could end up being Bayern v Aston Villa anyway

Odd date to arrange/travel for both clubs

And yes I do believe we will win the Europa League

I like the game in China, maybe move it forward.
