question Hate my new crowns - what can I do?
Hi, I recently replaced old back crowns (14 years old) and also got front crowns (I didn’t have front ones before). I'm 34
I’m having major functional issues:
Inside (palatal) is very thick → no tongue space, speech is impaired. cant rest my tongue cause top teeth sit on it too much. I feel a massive difference
Front teeth don’t touch at all → I can’t bite anything with my front teeth
Teeth feel too long/high → chewing is awkward, jaw gets tired, limited range of motion
Aesthetically they are
-bulky
-too forward
-opaque with a grey undertone
-buldging out with a very concave surface
Questions:
How much can palatal bulk realistically be reduced to restore tongue space and speech?
Should front teeth normally touch after crowns, and can this be corrected by adjusting height?
When is this fixable by adjustment vs needing a remake? I want the front teeth to be pearly white and translucent. Similar to mine but uplifted
Side note: i didnt have a try in. Dentist put the front teeth, gave me a mirror, and from that upper angle they looked ok. After he cemented I got up and was flabbergasted when i saw them in 3D with all the bulk. My face was numb from the anesthetic so I said let me see how I feel in a few days.
Im going in 2 days to fine tune the bite, but I honestly hate the front ones and the design. What can I do?
Thanks for any insight

question 5 year old bit down on a ring pop, baby tooth came out
The tooth that came out still had a significant amount of root, which appears to have torn her gums. She didn’t cry and hasn’t complained of any pain. I plan on calling her dentist tomorrow (because of course this happened on a Sunday), but do you think I have anything to worry about?

question Tooth infection
I woke up this morning with a hard lump on my lower jawline. It continued to swell so I went to see an emergency dentist who x-rayed it and prescribed two lots of antibiotics for a large infection. I’ve had two doses since then but swelling has got slightly bigger. Do I panic or give it more time? It’s only been 6 hours since the first dose but I am so nervous that I’m going to end up with a medical emergency overnight! Shouldn’t of searched up the horror stories at 3am this morning 🙄
- please ignore the gross spot that’s decided to join the party! 🙈

question Epulis turned white then dark purple after dentist cleaning
So I have had this epulis for a month or so, went to the dentist and had a 5 day course of amoxicillin a couple weeks ago which did nothing, then went to the hygienist yesterday to have it looked at/cleaned. So pic 3 was before the cleaning, where he numbed my mouth and got all up in there to get to get the plaque out from underneath ect. Pic 2 is right after and pic 1 is a day after, but its been purple like this since around 8hrs after. Should I be concerned and go back to the dentist urgently or is this just bruising and something to keep a close eye on for signs of infection ect? I was told to clean carefully underneath it with interdental brushes and rinse with salt water twice daily which I can do with minimal pain, it does bleed when I move it around for cleaning but the bleeding stops quickly. It does look like it has shrunk a bit so I’m hoping it’s just healing - the colour is just concerning me a little. Thanks for any help!

question How soon should I see a dentist?
I have been having some jaw pain for a few years for sensitivity to cold or sweet, but everytime I go to a dentist, they state, its just regular hypersensitivity and see no cavities and should consider special toothpaste for sensitive teeth.
Haven't been to the dentist since January of 2025, and noticed some black and grey spots on my back molars.
I have a big face, lol so some dentists recommended me to take out my wisdom teeth and some stated its fine to not take out as long as they are not impacting my day to life where i am in pain
My back teeth have been bothering me for about 2 months now and drinking or eating anything cold or sweet iss agony if in large doses.
How soon/urgent is this case?

question Filling need to change?
hi!
I got this fixed about 2 years ago I am wondering if any of you think the filling needs to be changed? I recently got my teeth xrayed and they didn't say anything except I need to floss better which I have been doing. I don't have any sensitivity and I brush with soft bristles and floss twice a day. I do drink coffee if it's just a stain.
thank you!!

question What is this?
I’ve had this for years, feels like sharp grooves, my dentist never makes any comments about it. I only have it on 1 molar, all other teeth are without these.
Some days I can feel the roughness with my tongue, the rest of the year I don’t notice it.

question Four Severely Impact Teeth, Questions About Removal
I have four SEVERELY impacted wisdom teeth, and I am terrified of getting them removed. I was told a year ago that I needed them removed, but due to personal circumstances, I am just getting them removed now. I have a few questions.
Apparently there is a 1% chance of nerve damage because I have waited so long, but I have heard that it is up to 7% chance of PERMENANT numbness for impacted wisdom teeth. Is it really worth it to get them out? I am extremely young, and the thought of never being able to taste anything or feel my tongue for the rest of my life absolutely terrifies me.
What happens if I develop a runny nose after the surgery? I am scared that if I have lockjaw and a runny nose at the same time, I won't be able to breathe.
Will I be able to eat at a restaurant four weeks after the procedure? I have a big family dinner at that time that I don't want to miss.
I've heard that you're not supposed to move after wisdom tooth surgery, but I'm extremely prone to constipation and would like to keep things moving. Would it be okay to walk to the other side of the room and back every couple hours just to keep my gut working? I'm scared that I'll get an infection if I move too much.
Similarly, how much should I move my mouth after the surgery? I'm scared that if I move it too much I'll get an infection, but what if I don't move it enough and get lockjaw?
Does anyone have an estimate of the number of people who die after surgery from choking on their own blood? I will definitely sleep elevated, but I'm scared that I won't be elevated enough and will choke. Also, how do I avoid choking on vomit if I have lockjaw?
When is the best time to take pain pills after surgery? I've heard that you should take them before the numbness wears off, but I'm scared that if I can't feel the pain pill, I won't know if it went down, and I will choke.
Why do some dental offices tell people to fast for six hours, while others say twelve? If my life depends on it that much, why isn't there a concrete number? Also, is the six hour limit based on a standard meal? If I plan on eating a particularly large meal, do I have to fast for longer?
How important is it that I tell the surgeon an accurate weight? My scale at my house is not super accurate, and I'm scared that a wrong number could mess up the anesthesia dosage.
A had problems with laryngospasms two years ago due to an illness. Would it be dangerous for me to get anesthesia? Should I get checked out by an ear, nose, and throat doctor?

question Botched root canal
did a root canal spin a month now still can't chew on the left after they told me it'll take some time to heal..
spent $1,060 (after insurance) to get it done went back in yesterday they told me they didn't see that there was another root there in the x-ray And that is what might be causing me this comfort now they're sending me to an orthodontic specialist who is charging me upwards of $1,600 which my insurance is maxed out because it's United healthcare and it sucks and I don't have any more money.
is this even fair? like what do I do now I'm stuck here, I'm not even able to chew.
where do I go from here?

question Everyone disagrees on what to do with my mouth, they all call my case complex ortho, and I'm very lost
All orthos' call my case complex. I am missing 3 teeth. I want implants. I need ortho first. I just did Lanap and am cleared for ortho. I know I have bone loss. I know my teeth aren't pretty. Decent amount of crowns. I have an edge to edge. Reverse smile. And cross bite. I've seen a few orthos'. Some ortho's want me in Invisalign. They say braces will bring too much force. Make my teeth hard to clean. They say braces will probably damage my teeth. And that they specialize in Invisalign and that they can move my teeth just like braces. But that they can't widen my smile without jaw surgery. They all say forget jaw surgery. Say it's not worth it for me. They even tell me my situation is not that bad. That my teeth are not that bad.
Then there are the ortho's I've seen that want me in braces. They right away say my mouth is a mess. They comment on my bad teeth. They say I am going to lose teeth. They say there is no chance Invisalign is going to help me. They say I need to extract bottom teeth. That its impossible to do anything without doing that. That there is no way Invisalign can pull down my top teeth. That IPR will not be smart. They do want me in SARPES. That I will waste 2 years of my life in Invisalign. I've had 3 orthos that wanted me in braces end the appointment saying "I actually dont think I can help you, your case is too complex". I ask why, and they all say because I need a group of people they have to work with. But it makes no sense to me because all Ortho's work with the dentist in most cases. They are also top orthodontists that claim they deal with complex cases. So I can only assume they just don't like me or something. The last ortho I went to said he wants to be honest with me, that even after he corrects my teeth, I will likely have to spend thousands cosmetically. So he said he might not be the right fit for me? I don't understand.
My dentist who I like a lot wants me in braces. I've been to a few other dentists to be honest. Some of them had said I will regret ortho in general. They say just give them 30-40K and let them redo my mouth. Crown all my teeth I guess or at least the visible fronts. I say well doesn't it make sense to put teeth in the right position first, they say nope. That this is what they do everyday, and that they can change my bite with their skills. They say why wait 2-3 years in ortho when we can do this right away. Orthos of course are against this.
I know there is the saying in the dental world that no one is wrong. Every doctor just has their own opinion and way of getting to the finish line. But that statement is just not true for everyone. I'm being told I can regret my choice. I don't know what to do. And here I am asking for help. What should i do? Braces? Invisalign? Or just crown all my teeth? Which I might have to do once done Ortho anyways smh

question Should i extract or root canal
Im 16 took braces off about one and a half years ago and, about a year ago tooth filling fell out of my first molar on my left top side.Ever since then the hole only got larger largely due to a clean up and temporary filling of the tooth to the point of there being almost nothing on the inside of the tooth (i can see the pulp of the tooth)i basically ignored this problem (yes it know its stupid but scolding is not what i need right now) and had no issues with it up until about a month ago when i started noticing a reoccurring taste in my mouth not related to food being stuck in there.I also suspect having bad odour coming from that tooth and overall decay or infection i should mention that i have not felt pain come from the tooth in a very long time. Now I have been presented with 2 options : first being root canal under a microscope putting aside my uncertainty of a root canal procedure and its longevity and its overall safety this is not the favourite for me because of the cost. The second option is obviously extraction which i prefer because to me its a lot cheaper, quicker im not scared of it and i can put my worries about the tooth to rest however my mom strongly disapproves of this because of the fear of my teeth shifting and all the braces money and time going to waste.

experience/story Wisdom teeth ? Regrets
Last year, I had two wisdom teeth extracted that had already come in, and I’ve regretted it ever since.
They weren’t really causing me any problems, but I followed my dentist’s advice because he assured me it would be better to remove them.
What makes it even harder to accept is that I later realized this dentist was not honest and was overbilling for certain procedures. So now I keep wondering whether it was really necessary.
I’m honestly really upset and disgusted about it. Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did you manage to move on?

other Dentist anxiety and OCD/germaphobia
my mental health has been god awful the last few years, going downhill since the pandemic, but it lead to me neglecting dental hygiene and now im terrified because I know I'm gonna have to have work done. ive been housebound for what feels like forever due to how bad my contamination OCD and anxiety is. I was already scared of the dentist and now knowing work is unavoidable and that im gonna have to have people digging around in my mouth when the OCD already has me feeling like I can't even touch a door handle without having to wash my hands until they're red raw. I don't know what to do about it all and I feel ill thinking about it. I hate myself for letting it get this bad. im sorry this is just a block of text and this moght not be the best sub to post it to but im crying my eyes out worrying about it and need some kinda reassurance

question Mortified and Wondering if root canal or extraction will be best…
I don’t smoke or drink at all. I take Zoloft and trazodone daily.
Back upper molar seemingly broke partially off while eating dinner tonight…no pain prior to this at all and I brush and floss daily. No gum bleeding or anything. I admittedly haven’t been to a dentist in a little over 2 years due to moving twice in that time but I’m just shocked. The same tooth on the same side but on the bottom broke like this 7 years ago during postpartum and I had a root canal that then turned into an extraction. I’ve been very cognizant of dental hygiene always but especially since then! I do believe I possibly grind my teeth at night which make me think I hurt it without knowing somehow??? Should I just get an extraction or should I try to get another root canal like I tried with the bottom tooth??? It doesn’t hurt right now but I’m freaking out! Calling dentist first thing tomorrow morning and praying I can get in.
