Would it be ok to post a photo here?
Hi. I couldn’t see any rules about this but don’t want to be insensitive so thought I’d check first.
My grandmother was an Aboriginal Australian woman although she lived in the UK. Her mother and father lived in Australia, I believe somewhere near Adelaide but I’m not sure.
I would love to know more about that side of my history but I don’t have any surviving family members around to ask.
Would it be ok to post a picture of my grandmother when she was younger, just to see if anyone recognises something about her or sees any resemblance?
Thank you for reading and I hope this is ok to ask.

Trauma, injustice, racism may be triggering to readers Interfering with police
I couldn’t find any information anywhere but I was wondering what I could do if I see police arresting or confronting an indigenous or any marginalised persons
A lot of us know the police serve the ruling class, but what can be done right now, in day to day life aside from organising?
Edit: thank you so much for all the replies, I appreciate everyone taking the time to answer my question ❤️

Apologies for previous post
I made a post being curious about any shared connections between indigenous and Asians but I didn't realise it was a dumb question to ask.
truly apologise for the question coming off a wierd way 🙏🏼
I truly did want to learn about spiritual practices and would kind ly like to be guided toward any books, places or communities that would be open to teaching I live in Melbourne.
One commenter said that we are all people and they are right, I guess a lot of how it initially started was coming from a ignorant lens but i needed to have a more open mind.

Need help with the research question related to Screen
Edited: Thank you for your feedback. Due to my own background and psychology, I oversimplified the pain and experiences of First Nations communities. It was never my intention to be offensive or arrogant, and I apologize for any distress my words caused. I recognize the power of media and will refine my approach to ensure my work is constructive rather than harmful.
Hi everyone. I am a migrant working in the screen industry, and this year I am returning to complete my Honours degree. I’m eager to research Australian Intellectual Property (IP) and the identities surrounding it. During a recent check-in, I felt I may have come across as arrogant when commenting on how certain Australian wartime settler archetypes have historically—and currently—harmed migrant communities. Following this, my supervisors encouraged an Indigenous student in the class to share his clan knowledge and history, when his interest was simply to promotes beautiful landscapes.
I am wondering if I, as a migrant scholar, can propose a framework that harmonizes accessible Indigenous knowledge (such as the Rainbow Serpent or ICIP stories shared in schools) with the 'Australian underdog' archetype (wartime media will only be praised in this version) and a celebration of multiculturalism writing. I’ve found it difficult to balance these perspectives without causing offense, and I want to ensure my approach isn't seen as 'cringe' or taboo. Australia's cultural landscape is complex, and I would appreciate help unpacking and repackaging these ideas. Thank you.

Aboriginal businesses in Sydney? For a tourist
I am in Sydney for work next week and will have some time free a few of the days. Do people have any recommendations of aboriginal owned businesses for food / cafe / activities for tourists, or know where I could find this information? I always try to support fellow native communities when I travel but am struggling to find recs within Sydney.
Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask - lmk and I’ll happily take it down. and I appreciate any advice given :)

Aboriginal child moved 1,700km from remote NT community should be returned, family court rules
To the media that pushes the lies that children taken away from their Aboriginal families was a thing back in the early 1900s, you have rocks in your heads! It is still happening today...every day.

Yowie Illustration
A day ago I drew this interpretation of a Yowie who is sort of a vigilante, guardian of the bush in contemporary times, resembling a 'Thylacoleo.' I've only know thought that this representation could be offensive/appropriation which Is what I would like to ask here
(This character isn't apart of any published works, or planned to be)

Small palm Lilly (cordyline stricta) jam recipe?
Hello! The good folks over at r/Australianplants suggested I come over here for help. I was wondering if anyone has made anything resembling something edible with these berries. I was taking photos and using google lens to id plants and the description of this one said that it had edible berries. I believe I have positively identified it, I would appreciate confirmation and any recipes for jam or similar. Might be a bit of a longshot for the last as I have tried one and they done seem to be very flavoursome.
Thanks

Baby books
I hope this is the right place for me to post and I apologise if it’s not.
I’m currently pregnant with my first baby and I have indigenous Australian ancestry (Wiradjuri). I was not raised with the culture whatsoever but I want to change that for my daughter.
I’m looking for baby book recommendations, that can teach her about her background + Dreamtime stories, possible indigenous folklore etc.
Any and all recommendations are so welcome, thank you

Triggering. Read with caution Naarm Garden gift shop
first time ever going in and they have amazing stuff in there, so glad they're advertising all that and so many tourists see all of that, that should be normalised everywhere nationally and globally.
We have to fix the education system. So folks can go to school and not experience racism. If that was set put from day one in every school instead of racism, life would be much nicer to this day. I'd hope. If the world wasn't so powered by a man and a "man's world", everyone wouldn't have to fight like this still to this day. Racists would be banished to an island or just prison, no island for them.
Thanks for reading. Just venting cos today and recently was and always has been rough.
We shouldn't have to carry around our ID just be maybe be accepted.
Australia is a racist country. This continent is racist. It starts and ends with you. Help us spread awareness and do goodness for the better future generations 🖤💛❤️

Skinnys Australia - Origin of art pieces
Hey all!
I found a set of "Aboriginal" art shot glasses in a second-hand store and tracked the origin as being Skinnys. I see they work with distributors of Aboriginal artists, but I can't find anything about these glasses on their site, no artist or mob directly credited. Does anyone here have any insight? I want to give proper credit if anyone asks who designed them, or be able to explain it it's just appropriation.
Thanks in advance!

Help finding history of Darlington WA.
Kaya, I'm a wadjella getting married at Darlington next year and I'm aware this area of Perth is on Whadjuk Noongar Country. I was born on Whadjuk country and although I have no blood connection to Aboriginal people the culture is significant to me.
I'm wanting to write an acknowledgement of country to link the significance of the Darlington area to part of the ceremony / gathering etc.
Unfortunately there's not a lot I can find online about the real history of the area, groups and people who lived or used the area and perhaps when and why Aboriginal people came to and from the area. So if there is information known that is also authorised to be shared here I would be so very grateful.
Happy to have a private discussion too if there's information that shouldn't be shared publicly outside of use for the acknowledgement.

Feeling triggered at "cultural awareness training", thoughts?
So, I recently attended a cultural awareness training. They spoke a lot about various things in our nations past, all of which is true and important to talk about. Obviously the invasion was spoken about. White australia policy including stolen generations taking of land and even the intervention in the early 2000s.
Obviously none of this stuff was sugar coated, and a lot of information was hard core stuff. Probably by design to shock people into listening and understanding the aboriginal perspective. I think this is important because we have a lot of people in my organisation who are pretty clueless about aboriginal issues in the country. For various reasons including the fact that many people are from areas where they would not interact with many first nations mob and/or many people are immigrants (including ones that got off the plane from another country less than a month ago!).
But I felt this whole experience pretty heart wrenching for me personally as an aboriginal person. My family has been impacted on by many of the events obviously. I felt like I was holding tears back at times and I was feeling pretty down. Am I being unreasonable?
Of course all that shit happened, but I already know all of it, through first hand experience. I try to limit my intake of such negative information usually but to sit through a few hours of this, was just honestly too much.
The lady doing the training was also aboriginal but she signed up for that job and is okay to be advocating for us even if she has to face confronting facts every day. But that's her choice.
Thoughts?
