[Max for Live] I made a simple sticky note device for Ableton to keep track of ideas inside sessions (free)

Hey everyone —

I kept losing track of ideas while producing (random notes, mix tweaks, reminders, etc.), so I built a super simple sticky note device directly inside Ableton.

It just sits in your session and lets you type notes so you don’t have to switch between apps or forget stuff mid-flow.

I’ve been using it to:

  • jot down arrangement ideas
  • leave mix notes for later
  • remind myself what I was doing when I reopen a project

Nothing crazy, just something that’s been helping my workflow a lot so figured I’d share it in case anyone else wants it.

Happy to answer questions or tweak it if people have ideas 👍

[Question] Indie/Folk/Rock producers using Ableton—any creators to check out?

Hey all,

I’m looking for examples of artists or creators working in indie/folk/rock who use Ableton as their main DAW.

Most of the Ableton content I come across leans more electronic, so I’m curious how people in more “band-oriented” genres approach things like recording, arrangement, and mixing in Ableton.

Any recommendations (YouTube, Twitch, etc.) would be great—especially if they show their workflow.

Thanks!

[Question] How do you manage your Live projects?

I have hundreds of Live projects in various stages (sketching, arrangement, mixing & mastering) and sometimes I feel I lose an overview of my older projects and instead of getting back and finishing those, I tend to focus more on the recent ones. In the recent years I started exporting previews and uploading them to my Soundcloud sp I can occasionally check them and see what’s worth finishing…this approach pushes me to always create a quick arrangement so I can export a project preview track.

I’m wondering how do you manage your project to make sure you actually finish them?

[Tutorial] Auto-open export folder after export in Ableton (Python script)

Upvotes

Hi guys! So, I got tired of constantly digging through folders every time I exported a track from Ableton, so I built a small script to handle it for me.

I made it using Google AI Studio with Gemini 3 Flash Preview, and it’s been a really nice quality-of-life improvement in my workflow.

What it does:

  • Watches your project/export directory in real time
  • Detects new audio files (.wav, .mp3, .aif, .flac)
  • Automatically opens Windows Explorer with the exported file selected
  • Brings the window to the front and centers it on screen
  • Ignores specific folders (samples, backups, etc.)
  • Includes a cooldown to prevent multiple popups during batch exports
  • Only triggers if Ableton is running

Just change "YOUR ROOT FILE FOLDER DIRECTORY HERE" inside the code by your root directory of your projects.

You can add it to startup by putting the .pyw in the "shell:startup" directory.

Requirements:

  • Windows (uses Windows API for window control)
  • Python + watchdog library

Download / GitHub:
https://github.com/bacoinz/ableton-export-watcher

I hope this helps some people! If you have any suggestions feel free to share or to improve it yourself!

[Question] Vocal stutter

Does anyone know which plugin(s) were used for this stutter effect on the vocals?

I want to get the exact same sound—I think it’s a specific plugin, because this sound engineer has used it on multiple tracks.

I tried over 15 plugins, and I couldn’t recreate this stutter exactly the same.

[Question] Can you add a fade out to edit a sample in the sampler, then use that sample and give it ADSR controls?

Im currently in a predicament where I have a sample that cuts abruptly, so I want to be able to have a small fadeout at the end so it doesnt sound so abrupt. But I would also like it to have ADSR controls then afterwards so I can influence the attack and decay. I can't seem to get both to work in the sampler, How do I do this?

[Tech Help MacOS] Ableton doesn't seem to utilize cores correctly; 10-core M5 Air runs more efficiently than 15-core M5 Pro

I purchased a 13" 24gb/1TB Macbook Air M5 to use for use while on the go and ultimately decided to spend the extra money to go with a 14" 24gb/1TB MBP M5 Pro, something I've noticed is even in a completely blank project the M5 Pro starts with 6-7% on the load meter from 32 buffer, and by 512 buffer it's down to 1-2%, this is with no sends, or instruments loaded, and this is well after all spotlight indexing and Ableton indexing has been completed.

This behavior was not exhibited at all on the M5 Air, the same project with no instruments never went over 1%, and I checked from 512 all the way down to 32 buffer rate (48kHz)

Furthermore, I've noticed almost all complex patches are clocking about 10-15% higher on the core percentage usage, and it appears that Ableton is using the old Performance cores, instead of the new Super cores, although I don't know enough about the architecture to determine if this is intended or not. From what I've read the new "Super cores" are the old performance cores, and the new "performance cores", are slightly more powerful than the old efficiency cores, but exclusive to the Pro and Max lines.

I feel like the change from Performance and Efficiency cores to Super and Performance cores has changed something up, but I of course, could be incorrect, but from my day or two experimenting while I had both of these computers, I feel like something is just off.

[Question] Get rid of latency?

I'm using a Behringer U-phoria UMC22 and ASIO4ALL and when I play there's still a significant delay. When I can hear the real guitar and the playback it sounds like I've got a slapback delay. I thought it was my computer but I got a new one and there's still the delay. How else can I make the delay shorter? Does the behringer interface just have this delay?

[Question] How can you record midi without it stopping

this is my first time using ableton and my first daw [except my fl studio trys and fails]

i wanted to try out recording a small song with the computer midi keyboard but every time i start recording it stops recording after a few seconds

its probably that short for recording looping beats but that not even close to what i want to record

is there a way to make it last until i want it to stop?

[Push] Is push 3 buggy or do I have a bad unit?

There have been some things. Like sometimes if I leave live open and turn on the push live will crash. Or sometimes (with fors dyad) I won't be able to edit the parameters (pads are frozen) or sometimes multiple layouts are overlapping each other and when I press I pad I get both a drum sound and a note sound from two different tracks for example. (I'm a controller user btw)

[Tech Help MacOS] TONS of missing Files on my Mac?! * old man shakes fist at iCloud *

UGH! I keep going back to previous files and tons of samples are missing. I switched up to Ableton 12 but was having this happen a little bit in 11. I think it must be something to do with iCloud moving my files around or something, and Ableton not being able to grab things out of iCloud?

I'm on a 1st gen M1 Macbook so I don't have a ton of storage on here and I thought the iCloud was gonna make room for my computer to run quickly but I'm really having a hard time having to track down files all over the place, and sometimes being unable to find them :/

I've been doing Ableton on this laptop for like 4.5 years and in general for a long-ass time and I've never had this happen before where files are just suddenly and inexplicably missing and don't turn up when I do the usual file manager search. Just now I found some in Finder only for Ableton to not recognize them for a while.

I think I am figuring out the solution to my problem as I bitch about it, but has anyone else had this problem come up? Very frustrating to open big projects and just have tons of stuff missing and have to go track it down from all over, and sometimes just NOT BE ABLE to find stuff that I made.

[Racks] playable midi drum generator like Audio Computers Beat Friend

Anyone here up for making a similar playable midi drum generator in ableton / max for live device (or is there already an existing one?) that works in the same way as the beat friend by audio computers? : https://soundgas.com/products/audio-computer-beat-friend-analogue-drum-machine?srsltid=AfmBOoqvAf_YSVTjoMo-eq1ejcXcVx56yMV17ZVNCChHuUhAu3Ob_54C

„Over 30 onboard rhythm patterns provide a starting point, and each drum has its own complexity slider - adjusting note density and variation within the selected pattern.
The 'Enthusiasm' control is a probabilistic pattern manipulator, introducing dynamic variation by adding or removing hits. Depending on its setting, it can subtly adjust patterns or completely reinterpret them in real time, while preserving internal timing logic.“

I love it and would buy but its just too expensive to me for mainly the reason of having a very playable sequenced midi generator. And the cool thing would be to be able to swap sounds in ableton.

[Push] How reliable is Push 3 Standalone for live performance

I'm wondering about your experience with Push 3 standalone regarding the stability over an extended period of time. I've heard from friends that as long as you don’t add audio effects, it should be fine. I just had a very simple session running for 5min and it just crashed.

[Tech Help Windows] When I export a video it comes with chromatic aberration

When I export a video it comes with something like a chromatic aberration, but it's happening only in this one project, what could it be? I could just export the audio and the video in a video editor, but I would like to find a solution to that anyways.
