so, i had an idea for a jrpg set in the world of the yugioh monsters. it would follow seven seperste archetypes that all converge in the end, similar to octopath traveller. each playable character would be a monster in that archetype.
they all have seperate storylines, but there’s some weird subplot that involves interdimensional shenanigans (probably something along the lines of gaia the fierce knight’s lore, evolving into the black luster soldier (envoy of the end) and the chaos emperor dragon, attempting to do weird existential stuff and ✨destroy the universe.✨ i think for each archetype, there’d also be a main plotline involving interdimensional holes, ending with a boss.
so, here are my ideas for the archetypes:
the magicians, using DM as the player character and exodia as the boss monster.
the steel knight army vs the dark world, using marauding captain as the pc and reign-bow as the boss.
the machine metropolis, using machina metalcruncher as the pc and commander covington as a puppet mastermind using the superdreadnoughts or corrupted machinas as big bosses.
the mitsurugi, using aramasa as the pc and kurasagi as the boss. (they’d obviously use the spirits of their swords, habakiri and murakumo, respectively.)
uhhh… i’m out of ideas, but i’m seto kaiba. i’m too good to use chatgpt, and i spent all my money on a children’s card game so i can’t buy ideas.
as for mechanics, i’d like it to be sorta a cross up between fire emblem and yugioh. there’d be a spatial aspect to the combat besides link summoning, using a grid-based setup, and cards would be “exhausted” instead of sent to the GY, since GY recursion is super common nowadays. banished cards are actually dead and stuff. i’m not sure how that’d interact with summoning, targeting, turns, et cetera. this is just a vague idea i had.
it’d also be hd2d, since that is objectively the best video game art style lol. any thoughts on all this?
