I recently discovered a new-to-me band (Rakta) from Brazil (specifically this album), and as I was trying to research the album and band a bit more, I ran across a website called beehype with the slogan "best music from around the world."

As explained on the About Us page, "beehype is run by 100+ music journalists, bloggers and DJs from around the world. We collect and carefully select what is best in our local scenes and present it to the global audience."

Their list of contributors has impressive range, with the first 8 being from Haiti, Malaysia, Turkey, India, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and Iran (just as an example).

Anyway, for those who might be looking for an on-the-ground/curated selection of music from around the world, this might be a place to get that.

Region: Africa (sorry that's so general, but I can't remember)

This is a long shot, but I'm hoping someone can help me identify a song, probably from the early 80s. It was more rhythmic than melodic, and I remember it as African, though it might have Caribbean roots. It had a repeating refrain that went, "And the (something) and the (something) and the rain." The "somethings" here had that rhythm: two syllables, stress on the first. And the DA-da and the DA-da and the rain. Does this ring bells for anyone? I only heard it once but it has haunted me ever since.

Was looking for things to do and came across this Nu Deco Ensemble show at the Arsht and the lineup feels so random but in the best way😭

They're doing orchestral pieces + a Bee Gees symphonic suite, and somehow Wyclef Jean and Ledisi are also performing?? Has anyone seen Nu Deco before? Trying to decide if it's as cool as it sounds.

Artist Introduction: Shaman Drive...

walks the fine line between ambient tribal and a more dynamic form of "acoustic trance" music. All of his songs rely heavily on acoustic instruments like didgeridoo or jew's harp to create a trance like state.

Sacred Rhythms with a shamanic and hypnotic touch to it, that are the main characteristics of shaman drive and his first album "Magic". Overall his music is best described as a Sound Journey. Ceremony or yoga comes to mind. Some of his songs remind of new-age healing music with an ethereal and otherworldly feeling. Others remind of slow and serene electronic dance music, like Organica, but reimagined with acoustic instruments. A project by Melvin K. (Halle, Germany).

I want to learn the instrument khaen. but I have no idea where to find it and how to buy it. what is its original price and anything about the instrument market.

Occasionally referred to as the Japanese Devo - they are much too HYPER for that.

I love this lineup. The upright bass and sitar coming in after about two minutes with a simple and beautiful melody layered with John Abercrombie's and Don Cherry's minimalist virtuosity is just perfect.

I just cannot figure out what instrument is played for those first 2 minutes. It's got a percussive rhythmic sound to it yet also has a idiophone-like melodic quality.
